  1. +1 I'm in both camps on this one, and understand the whole surface area arguement and all that. Although I don't have it in the most ideal conditions 100% of the time though if I had to guess, so I think the difference is neglidgeable. That is I'm not 100% that my flow through my reactor is "perfect" to make the conditions the best for the carbon to work the best, ect. ect. ect. Its one of those things I just get the middle of the road stuff and don't worry too much about it. I have never left it in there longer than 4 weeks anyways since it is usually gummed up by then anyway.
  2. DD is on facebook too. They posted up some pictures of some sweet looking deepwater acro's that are coming. I'd love to see a pichoni, awi, or some others pop up. Which I am sure they will.
  3. That is why I started that thread on there. It seems now retailers think they can rip you off on any nice coral they get in, for no other reason then they can and want more money. Don't take the time and see if it holds its color, the risk of loosing it, and the extra money to make sure the coral survives. Take nice pictures, cut it up, sell for BIG bucks, ship it out - it turns brown or dies, and they say well its a wild frag. Good times...... Sad but true. Anything to line their pockets more. The only way to get them to stop is stop supporting their hype. I'm ALL about supporting local and do. But I won't support ANY business whose business model is to chop stuff up to make more money regardless of the impact on the coral and the customer - then to just feed them a line to get them to come back to spend their hard earned money on corals that they are making 10x-20x profit on. I will continue to support the local vendors that take care of their livestock as well as their customers. I'd also like to thank them for not joining the bandwagon and coming up with crazy hype and other stuff to try and take my money. They do their business legitimetly and takes care of their customers. For this I applaud them, and will continue to make the long drive to some of them, after Sierra is born.
  4. I figured mine out and it was $75-$100 depending on the amount of water changes and additives I used. 180g total
  5. You know its time for an upgrade when you have a bubbletip on the wall of the tank!!! lol Looking good Bruce!
  6. I would if I picked any of these up. I was just posting pictures of colonies that I liked that I saw up on DD. If I had the spare moola right now they would be in there though They have some NICE colonies coming in.
  7. Basement - I don't think it would be worth having it up on the hardwood unless you planned on cutting out the hardwood and tiling underneath it. I'm tiling underneath mine in the basement when I do the bathroom and entry tile. The rest of the basement is going to be carpet. Plus I think you would make the missus happy - which is ALWAYS a bonus
  8. I forgot to add - I had a box put in on the outside of my house with the 20amp plug so I can pull the generator around, plug the "jumper" cable from the generator to the box on the outside of my house. I had them hardwire the box to the transfer switch, so the plug in the reliance box is now dead.
  9. I'm a fan of QTing. I would have done the same. Now you can lower the salinity to ~1.009 in QT, which you couldn't do in the display. You can lower it immediately, but bring it back up over the course of several days.
  10. Don't connect your generator directly to your home's wiring. Connecting a portable electric generator directly to your household wiring can be deadly. A generator that is directly connected to your home's wiring can 'backfeed' into the power lines connected to your home. Utility transformers can then increase this lower electrical voltage to thousands of volts. That's more than enough to kill a utility lineman making outage repairs many miles away. You could also cause expensive damage to utility equipment and your generator. If you wish to hard-wire a generator to your home, it should be installed by a licensed electrician with an approved cut-off switch that will automatically disconnect the home from the power grid when the generator is being used. Please check with your local utility company before installing a hard-wired generator. Don't plug a portable generator into an electrical outlet in your home or garage. If a generator is plugged into your home's electrical circuits, it can still 'backfeed' power into the utility company lines, which can injure or kill utility workers fixing on the downed power lines. The correct way to use a generator is to connect a heavy-duty, outdoor-rated power cord to the generator. Appliances can then be connected to the power cord. Make sure that the outdoor-rated power cord has a sufficient wire gauge to handle the electrical load.
  11. Here is some info I posted on another forum on this subject - I figured it would be good to start a thread to combine our knowledge together to pass on the best information on how to PROPERLY backup our systems. I learned the proper way to hook up a generator in the most safe and efficient way possible from reading the net and talking to a few electrician buddies. I will try and find the online sources I used when I have more time (getting ready for my Tat appt and a big trade order coming in from CC ) I bought a Reliance Transfer Switch kit from lowe's ($279). I had it hardwired by my electrician with a plug and box on the outside of my house. So all I have to do is pull the generator out of the shed/garage and use the big 20a plug, jumper cable and plug it into the generator and the box. It cost me ~ $800 for everything, including the generator. I also bought the generator at Lowe's. $429 2 circuits will be for the fish tank, one will be for the living room (gotta have tv when the power is out - lol), and another for the refridgerator. I'm having a certified electrician hook this up. It is a little too complicated for me. I do 90% of my own stuff, but I know when to pay someone, and this is the time
  12. Here's my new Scolly that came in today - Then some paly's going on to Coralpedia - Sikryd's Snake Eyes Flash shot

  16. Awesome - looks like a great tank!!! I need to figure out who to order mine from!
  17. I wondered what I noticed about it besides the aquascape that I liked. I'll have to keep that in mind for the new tank. I do like zoa gardens in the sand though as long as they are bunched together.
  18. AFAIK yeah. There just has to be a definite bigger male in the bunch. I have a Lined Blenny now. I am going to be adding a Tailspot tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes You'd be fine in a 120g with 2 males though, at least I would think.
  19. Thanks. These are all things I have had for 6+ months. I haven't bought anything knew for months now. I broke that trend today with the scoly from LA
  20. I'm loving the aquascape too! Great job! Tank is looking good.
  21. Thanks Hunter - I'm pretty stoked on it. We'll see when it comes in. I did a HUGE ($1200+) trade with a vendor today too. So it'll be cool to get the boxes in tomorrow. I have a Tat appt @ 11am, so I won't have time to really check everything out though :( Some more pictures from today - Orange Envy Miami Hurricane UFO Micro Sinister Smiley (real name is wrote on the bottom of the disc)
