  1. +1 If there was a live arrival quarantee (which is pretty standard nowadays) then he should be able to ship new frags or work something out with you. Without that said or implied, then it is kind of on you guys to come to an understanding. I personally ship everything out healed nicely, with a live arrival guarantee. Meaning I will replace anything that is lost due to shipping problems. I also talk to most of people I sell/trade to, on the phone, so I can get a feel for who I am dealing with. This also helps in case things like this come up so you can just call to discuss it. The hardest thing to do is try and talk about stuff like this via email or pm's. I'd pm them and get their number, then try and give them a call when you receive the shipment tomorrow. That way they know exactly what is up with the shipment and how it looks right when it comes in. Then you can hopefully work something out together. +1 on getting shipments late and things still surviving. Bring the bags up to temp and don't let them heat up with them still sealed. Then acclimate slowly.
  2. Its a super red/orange acan. I can't get the white balance on it right since it is so bright. I haven't figured out how to take a picture of it yet to get a true picture of the color. Its the same color as the chalice that is posted above. One of these days I might pony up for a nicer camera. The D10 is great for a point and shoot. But I don't get many pictures that are worth saving... That or I have to learn the settings and do more manual shots. I might have to try and get one with less lights on too. That is with 1000w (all 4 halides) so that may be why too???
  3. Thanks! Its out of control right now. I'm about to cut it. Its 16" across, I've had to move corals 3x now to get it them out of the way of it. I'll let you know after I get done taking the scalpel to it.
  4. Come up my way and check it out in person I always welcome everyone over. Plus then we can BS about Riyahd and Bahrain! I have people over all the time, otherwise I might get lazy on the glass thing Hopefully this summer we can have a tank tour. Thanks Doug - got a couple more I finally uploaded
  5. LMAO!!!! I have never heard of that! Now that is funny - even better would be to catch it on film
  6. I broke one in my QT tank and never have had any problems. I sucked up all the sand where I thought they might be though. Edit - I forgot to add - they can't be picked up with a magnet...
  7. WOW That sucks! I hope the rest goes okay for you.
  8. That is why it is recommended to treat with interceptor, since there is no way to get all the spiders that are crawling around the rocks. Glad to see you found out what is going on with your zoa's.
  9. LOL @ Bob - lots to free time Bob! Yeah I like those ones too. I'm not too thrilled with the oceanswonders right now! I'll have to pick some of those up when I am at Lowe's this week. I do the same with the hot water, then throw them in my QT tank to soak till I use them.
  10. Sweet Dan! Nice little setup. I'm looking to get a calcium reactor for my new tank. I wouldn't mind getting something like this with the ozone in it too. Are you building anymore of these or would you?
  11. Interceptor should take care of them if I am not mistaken. That sucks! Those things look nasty too.
  12. LOL - yeah I had the same issue. It would crest so high that it would go over the side of the tank. I pushed my overflows down to lower the water, then tried it again. I didn't like the idea of it trying to push the sides of my tank though :p Thanks for the link to the magnet. I wasn't aware of that. I'll have to ask Steve about it when I send my module in. I'm pretty sure mine was part of the latter series though.
  13. Looking good Lynn. Lovin' the colors on the Upscales. There was only a few corals that I missed from my heater breakage, that was one of them. I'll be getting that one back when I head up to NY. Are you taking the pictures with the flash? You might want to try it without flash, on macro, and all the lights on. That is when I seem to get the best pictures. But like you, mine is a point and shoot and it takes a while to figure out what settings work best. Keep the pictures coming
  14. +1 This is what I use. I also put it on all my reefing plugs to help ward off salt creep and oxidization.
  15. Looking good Nate - great colors!
  16. Glad to hear things worked out with NYA. I am a big fan of the changes he has made in the last 6 months as well. He QT's everything now and added the quarantee which is nice. Your right too, his prices and communication are a lot better compared to a LOT of other online vendors. If I can't get fish local I always go to there first.
  17. Awesome specimens Sam!!! They're a nice size too. That'll be fun to watch them grow up.
  18. Not that I know of. I smoked the module on mine, so when I talk to him in the next day or two, I'll ask to see. I do too, I'm just not sure my tank can handle the extra pressure! Being 6ft, it can get a pretty nice wave going.
  19. I don't know, but he has some GREAT prices on glue. I'm about to test out the paste I got from him this weekend at the CMAS meeting.
  20. I've used tanks that were dosed with copper to house corals after I cleaned them out. It was in an old 20g I used as my QT tank. I didn't loose any corals. I might have been lucky though. Copper in the rock I would worry about though since I haven't ever dealt with that.
  21. I like it. As suggested, I'd put some the extra rock, assuming you have more, in the sump.
  22. How long ago did you get these? There was a bad batch of impeller pins (for lack of the right word ) about 6-8 months ago. I would call Steve at ecotech and he should take care of the issue for you. They shouldn't fall off for any reason. I had the same problem. That is how I found out about the issue at all. Mine you, after about 5x of having to call them and talk about the issue. I haven't had a problem since they sent me the new parts.
  23. I agree, quoting someone from a vendors thread was definitely not the best way to start a conversation about this! I think the issue has gotten a little off topic, or your reading a little more into what I am talking about. I am speaking about the HIGH prices ie. $50-$150 per 1/2" corals, that are being fetched for the nicer looking wild stuff that is coming in now. This is very specific, and definitely not as involved as illustrated above.
  24. Exactly. If you are selling frags of wild stuff for a premium price, then I think vendors have a responsibility to at least give you the best product they can for the money. The nicer wild colonies are marginally more expensive - ie. $129-$149 (depending on size). That is retail, which includes a good profit margin. Anybody can buy all of these wild colonies, frag them up, and make a hefty profit. I think that is wrong when either a business does it, or a hobbyist. Now if they are held onto, taking the risk of it losing color or dying, aquaculture it, then sell for a hefty margin, I see that as doing good business. This makes sure the customer is getting a product worthy of a hefty price tag, and also ensures that the vendor is making some extra money for the time and effort put into it. Thats all. Not a big to-do. And definitely not isolated to one vendor. I have posted stuff like this on other forums as well. I have also talked to my buddies (in the coral business) about this practice, and a couple of them have switched over, or are in transition. Wetthumbfrags is another vendor that is doing this, and has since changed up their model after there was some grumbling. Its just like the My Miami. I can't believe it fetches $1500. But who can blame Jason for selling it for that much, especially after all the work and time that went into aquaculturing it for over a year. I stood behind that 100% whether it was a popular stance or not. Put the time in, and get paid. Business is business, but bad business is just that.
  25. I plan on getting some on the next go around of pictures.
