  1. is/was your live rock real meaning it came from the ocean, or was it one of these new dry rocks you get from like Marco rocks? If it is one of these man made types then yes it's normal for a while. If it was a real live rock then no that's a little odd.
  2. Roberts Oxygen. I was at the Sterling location last week, and they exchange. Fairfax, VA 22031 (703) 698-5322 (703) 204-2913 (fax) Retail Store 45000 Underwood Lane #N Sterling, VA 20166 (703) 471-9586 (703) 471-9638 (fax) Retail Store 8607 Quarry Road Manassas, VA 20110 (703) 369-0400 (703) 631-8264 (fax) Retail Store
  3. Absolutely. Do your homework.
  4. That would be awesome Brian. Tanks
  5. You can get some peel and stick vinyl tile at HD or Lowes for about 89 cents a piece which is what I have used in the past. Also makes it easy to slide the tank in to place at set up.
  6. T5's all day long. Even with just my T5's on there is ZERO difference when the blue LED's come on. In other words they can't be seen unless I have them stand alone, which I do like that look as well.
  7. Stunning fish. Where were you able to find these guys? Do they behave with your corals like there supposed to?
  8. I remember my fist clam. Ahh to be 16 again. Looks very nice!
  9. Are you speaking visually, or do you have a PAR reading? I ordered three yesterday to try them out. I'm hoping that they are pretty close. Having to change out 6 now every 8 to 10 months now might make Momma mad at me. Anyone running the 14k's? Anyone have a reading on those?
  10. Exactly, just noticed you had to use the drop down, but that's what I thought I had posted. The advantage is your not taking any chance of the pump leaking on the floor, and you not losing any valuable space on the inside of your cabinet to house something like a Dart, or any other external pump. I won't steer you away from using one, just saying. I use two myself but my system is in wall with a huge fish room behind it. The size tank your talking about I think the Dart would be a bit much for a return pump. If quite is key, I doubt you will find many pumps that make less noise.
  11. I know you said external, and I run two myself, but I have built two systems in the last 3 months that I used these on and you can not even hear them run, and IMHO perfect for an enclosed type system.
  12. I was using a G3 on 240 gallons and it worked just fine. I do however normally have an under stocked fish load though, and I don't over feed at all. Haven't used the G5 myself but I would assume it should be good to go.
  13. That is correct as of this minute, however I just placed an order last night for another dual ballast and two more Lumen max elites, so in total I will have five MH's over the tank. One will be at each corner, and one will be in the center. I also picked up two Ice Cap blue LED strips to add in for that last couple of hours for the moon light effect. L8 2 rise - What I have been using is one dual ballast and one single ballast to run the three 250's. I also have had 2 VHO T5's at the front and back. The Lumen Max fixtures are rated for a 30" spread at 30" from top to bottom. Since this new set up in 36" front to back it leaves a few darker spots which is why I am adding in two more fixtures. It may be that I have to add in one more fixture to make two rows of three, but I am hoping 5 will be enough. Sam if you want to stop by sometime to see what that dimension looks like shoot me a PM. It's a silly look in person.
  14. I know this was all based on 400Watt bulbs but I'm curious if anyone is using the 250 version of the 20K's and has any comments? Someone who has run the Radiums in the past would be perfect. TIA
  15. Yes, it is in the same location as the old tank in wall. I still need to re do the front wood trim because of the height change, so right now it is wide open on top which makes it very easy to access. I had some trouble with the first frag I got from Ric which only lasted a few days, but this one has done great and continues to impress me. I hope to have some frags of it in the next few months when I upgrade the frag system to 100 gallons over the 52 I just got rid of.
  16. Bout ten hiding in the rocks in that shot and I added a black and white (Heniochus acuminatus) , my pair of Maroon gold stripe clowns and a juv Dragon wrasse who will go in to my sump the first time he mis behaves. Tried a trio of Purple queens but they wouldn't eat and went one by one. I'm going to add few other things here and there, just not quite sure what at the moment. Keeping compatibility is a real PIA when you want some of the cooler fish. Planning to work on some kind of live food system this next winter so I can get some of the harder to keep guys. Just not sure which way I go yet, if anyone has any suggestions.
  17. Still pretty bad at taking pics, but here is a shot of Ric's Invader which was about a 3/4" frag 10 months ago.
  18. Updated FTS 8/3/2010 This is a six week shot from my recent upgrade. I went from 60"W x 18" front to back, and 22" tall to 36" front to back and 23 tall. Several other changes include two Bubble Magus dosers, and most recently a calcium reactor which I hope to have online in the next couple of months. Still trying to get the dosers adjusted to the upgrade in water volume as I am just over 400 gallons now. Special thanks go out to Jeff aka NAGA for the new tank. Totally diggin it!
  19. The Fins and Feathers in WV was sold to a new buyer. 5 weeks later they closed the doors for good. I wonder if there is any relation? I don't get it.
  20. I like the ASM as well for value, but I would go with the G3 which is big enough for 250Gal system.
  21. I'd also check the connection between the pump to skimmer for leaks. The ASM's are notorious for leaking at the grommet and can give the effect you are describing. I had a rib eye, baked potato, and green beans for dinner. In laws leave tomorrow to go back home.
