  1. Howdy neighbor, I went out to Winchester Pet Aquarium last weekend, and while I wasn't impressed with their corals at all, they do have some very well kept fish. Didn't get a chance to speak to anyone there, but they do have what looks to be a huge prop tank in the works. http://www.petcenteronline.com/cgi-bin/scart/smartcart.pl
  2. Johnny, is that you? lol
  3. If you can, also post a small review of the product so far. Interested in doing an upgrade at some point myself.
  4. Did you decide on a skimmer upgrade?
  5. I just did this very thing about three weeks ago. What I did was make all new water in the frag tank, and then when I turned it on, I just trickle fed the new water in to the total system at the rate of about 10 gallons an hour for about ten hours. My main tank and prop tank actually seemed to like it very much, and the only effect's I have seen at all is new algae in the frag tank.
  6. IMHO with the weather getting nicer, I just think people are making plans more than a week ahead. If you had planned this several weeks in advance, I myself would be there.
  7. Mine has been doing that all winter as well.
  8. If you have the time, leave the lights off for the first week, and slowly introduce them as time goes on. Worked pretty well for me the last 4 weeks. Hmm, edit works for me, twice even
  9. I would send Jeff [ NAGA ] a PM and ask him. People have wanted acrylic tanks with a glass fronts for a long time, and last I spoke to Jeff there was a product just hitting the streets to bond glass and acrylic which would make this possible.
  10. I got him at about 4 inches, so I have only had him/her about a year. It's easily the largest fish in my tank now.
  11. Little off topic, but will it pair with a pink spot watchman? I have one about 5 inches that I wouldn't mind parting with. As to your question, I don't have a clue?
  12. Only potential problem I see so far is finding a bonding system that will adequately hold the acrylic to the glass that will hold up. Unless there is something out I have yet to hear about [available to the consumer] adhering glass to acrylic is still in the early stages.
  13. Not true. The circ line is only in a loop with the hot water. Think of it as a closed loop system that is only recirculating through your hot water heater. You set your timer so it only starts running around the time you want to take showers, kind of like a programmable thermostat for your home now a days.
  14. TBH since leaving CA two years ago, I have not seen a system like this on the east coast, not once, in the over 400 homes I have been in. What you do is hook up what we call a Circ line, or Hot water recirculating system. Here is one for your reading enjoyment with a timer system. http://www.redytemp.com/tanklesshotwatercirculator.php Instant hot at every faucet in the home, all the time.
  15. Did you ever get your web site up and running? I'm interested in learning more about the purple anemones in your farm. What kind is that, and are they becoming more a custom to being fragged? I think you told me once they were not quite as hardy as the RBTA?
  16. Pretty interesting. Curious why they wouldn't suggest to just adjust the float valve to fill the tank less? Sounds like a flood just waiting to happen. :2cents:
  17. Rumor has it you decided to go with the NeoZeo method. Any truth to that? Looking good BTW! Mark
  18. Thanks much Niki! Haven't had my camera man by for some time, but I do have a couple of updates in terms of text. I'll have to see when he can make it by for me. Guessing I can coax him with some home made Mexican food. 1. Upgraded the center hood with a new reflector. Made such a huge difference I ordered two more and a new ballast to go from two 175's to three 250 Radium's. Been on back order the last 6 weeks, but I do expect them in the next couple of weeks. I also plan to add some VHO's to the front and back side of the new lights soon after I make the switch. 2. I had put my little frag tank online [black tub shown in earlier pix] and that worked great for about 4 weeks. Did some work for a good friend of mine, and I now have a new frag tank [Robz old frag tank] that has been up and running for about a month to six weeks. Guessing I have around 60 pieces in there now all doing well. I am using T5 lighting there for now, but plan to add my 175's there when the other lights show. 3. Tore down my 29 gallon acrylic hospital tank, added it inline with the rest of my system for a prop tank. To prop what is still up in the air. Right now it has my RBTA, and my mated pair of Maroon misbar gold stripe clowns. They have been laying eggs about every 3 to 4 weeks it seems lately. Still debating on if I want to try and raise some of these, but very cool to watch non the less. BTW for the record, I can reach in and grab my clowns, either of them, and they will not bite or go after me in any way. True story... 4. Added in a new large reactor to run carbon about 6 weeks ago, and I am changing that out about every three weeks so far. Water has been stellar since doing so. Before that I was floating bags, and this has made a pretty significant change to the system. 5. Just ordered and received a new Dart pump to redo my closed loop system on my main display. I just need to find the time to re-plumb it all in, and I will put the Blue line I am currently running up for sale here. The reason is so I can add in four more inlets to get rid of the maxi jets I have in my tank now. I just can't stand looking at them, not to mention they just get covered in bio film that the Neozeo system grows heavily on black plastic. 6. This past weekend I upgraded from running 5 Stealth low wattage heaters, to one Blueline controller with a 500watt titanium heater. Turns out my cheapo thermometer was about 3 degrees off, and my tank had been running around 82.7 which explains a couple of small issues with a colony or two. Those are already looking better since Saturday. All in all I have been very happy with the Neozeo system. I am still playing with the dosing and adjusting little things here, and little things there and my corals tell me they love me and are very happy every night before I put them to bed. I also recently took a new approach to the fish I want to keep, and got rid of all of my angels, and other fish I thought could potentially be a problem, and decided to go with all types of nano looking fish outside of my yellow and purple tangs. I mostly have dottybacks, blennies, and gobies now and will soon add a few wrasses to the mix. Pix to follow at some point....
  19. Brian, I think the way you are going about it is fine, but perhaps try target feeding them a little food so they will close up per say giving you a better shot at removing them complete.
  20. Congratulation on being the first person I have ever heard anything positive about Salifert test kits from. TBH the brand name escaped me at the moment. It's a commercial brand, and he backs that test up with TM.
  21. From what everyone I have ever heard from who used a Salifert test kits at one point or another, they are JUNK. Take a water sample with you next time you go to a local fish store, and have them test your water to compare. Dave, who we installed the HVAC system for just last week had his water tested at AQUACO because his water kept testing very low with a Sallifert kit, and he had lost like 10 colonies. Turns out his Mag was off the chart and over 2000.
  22. I was involved in an install on a home in CA that is pushing 6000SF, and this owner is making a little over $200 a month after he powers his home. In other words, he is putting power back in to the grid, and PG&E cuts him a check each month. While that may not seem like much, the entire system was 28k, and he has no power bill at all. That system should pay for it's self in less than 7 years. On a side note, he has a 12'X3'x3' reef in his living room, and a 1000 gallon Koi pond in the front yard that he can view through a window in the basement.
  23. Lloyd's, also known as Lloyd's of London, is a British insurance market. It serves as a meeting place where multiple financial backers or
  24. No such animal, and as far as insurance companies go, none of them will cover the tank either. They typically pay for the resulting damage, and not the source causing the damage. Now, if a tank heater/ chiller caused the tank, or surrounding areas to catch on fire, the tank may be covered. There is a gray area in there.
