  1. I liked the WAV on my tank but made the mistake of installing it under the tank to feed the returns in the overflows, it does not like that much backpressure, over 2' of head, and will cause the magnets to skip. One of these days I'm going to redo the plumbing on my tank and move the WAV up to the water level like Bruce shows on his website and I'm sure that it will work great then
  2. My Typhoon III RO/DI unit has that Auto Shut Off Valve installed on it. When the container pushes the float up it stops the water going into the RO unit, never had a problem with it and have never noticed it cycling on and off at all. Of course if your float valve is somewhere where the water is moving you will probably have a cycling problem because the float is bouncing. I regularly forget to turn off my RO unit and the ASOV shuts it off for me, I just go by later and turn the water off since mine is feeding from the faucet with a diverter valve.
  3. HOT has some sometimes, I think I have a couple 1" bulkheads laying around, not sure if they are hose bibbed, slip or threaded without looking though. I usually just order them from Bulk Reef Supply and get them in a few days unless its an emergency.
  4. For Hermit crabs and a brackish tank I'd just use whatever you can get the best price on. Don't really need something higher end like Reef Crystals. 50 gallons of Instant Ocean can be had for $10 at Congressional Aquarium in Rockville or a member here might sell you a bag, only problem is that it's a bag and not resealable so you'd need something to put it in. Oceanic salt comes in a Blue plastic container which has a screw on lid and can be bought for around the same price. If it was me, with your current needs, I'd just get a container of Oceanic 50g, if you do decide to set up a saltwater tank later you can use it in it also, there are many people that use Oceanic in their saltwater tanks with no problems.
  5. I never add water from anyone elses tank to my tank. The shipping water will probably have a build up of ammonia.
  6. I'm almost positive I've seen them at House of Tropicals
  7. I will be leaving from my house near BWI airport if anyone wants to meet up somewhere to ride down, I can take 3 others in my truck
  8. Last time I was at aquarium depot it was a mess. There is House of Tropicals in Glen Burnie, Todays Pet in Columbia and Exotic Aquatics in Parkville
  9. Home Depot sucks for plumbing fittings, Lowes is much better for small size pipes. For larger size pipe fittings Ferguson is the place to go.
  10. They still make an aquarium background from Ocean Wonders, it's some type of vinyl which goes on with water and sticks to the back of the tank very well. I've seen it at House of Tropicals and you can order it online
  11. Black for a reef. I just painted a tank with Krylon Fusion, gave it 2 coats and looks good.
  12. You can't go wrong with Occoquan Reservoir, can go out of Fountainhead park or Lake Ridge Park. There is Burke Lake Park but never had a whole lot of luck there. Fountainhead was always my favorite, they rent boats, have a boat launch, fishing pier and they have a bait shop. Caught many a crappie off of the fishing pier to take home to dinner, plenty of catfish, bass and bluegill in that lake also.
  13. Good luck with that meter, the one I bought from Harbor Freight never worked and I tossed it in the garbage.
  14. API calcium test sucks, get a salifert test for calcium. API kit is decent for Alkalinity. Lunar Wrasses love inverts, feather dusters and zoos, they love to eat them like candy, if you plan to keep zoo's, snails, or hermit crabs get rid of the lunare wrasse.
  15. I was looking for it awhile back also. Only thing I could find was something called Quick Cure made by API, ingredients say Formalin, Malachite Green. I would guess they don't make just Formalin anymore, call around to older fish stores, especially places like Super Petz or Roozens, and see if any is on the shelf.
  16. I got mine at guitar center up here in MD, have been using it for years and never had a problem. Look in the DJ equipment section, think I pid $30 for it.
  17. 5ml of kent liquid calcium might be a little much for a tank that size but it shouldn't be an overdose to make it snow in the tank and drive the calcium level down that far. I'd get a better Ca test kit like a salifert and retest before you do anything drastic. A Alkalinity of 16dkh is very high also.
  18. I live in Linthicum Heights near BWI, could swing down your way on Fri, Sat or Sun.
  19. Does it have to be Instant Ocean Salt? I've got some water mixed already but it's Crystal Sea salt.
  20. Try getting rid of a cabbage leather coral, I continuously have pieces growing in my tank from long ago when I removed the coral from on the rocks, I still have my large colony but I keep it away from the rocks now. Every time I remove a piece that has grown out I just put it on a frag disk, eventually someone comes along looking for beginner corals.
  21. Not sure what size they have but I've seen some of those at House of Tropicals
  22. Never bought much saltwater stuff from them but Jim helped me set up a beautiful rainbowfish tank that I loved before I got the saltwater reef bug.
  23. When I filled the tank I have I took it to a welding supply place, depending on tank size sometimes they swap it, sometimes they fill it.
  24. I've never had a foxface yet that didn't act strange, they get all camo'ed up and look pissed off on a regular basis and just generally act strange. Flare their spikes for no reason on a regular basis. Seems to be normal behavior for these fish from what I have seen with 2 different foxfaces in my tanks. If it looks healthy and is eating don't worry about it.
  25. I'll buy into that, I cut down on alot of the stuff that I was dosing, changed to a different salt and started keeping up better with my water changes and guess what my SPS started looking better. Keeping my fingers crossed
