So, even though I'm building a house and intended to wait until it was done to get started on a new tank, I'm jumping back in. Building it in apartment and will relo once the house is ready this summer.
I have a few questions on drain and return sizing as I ripped out the old overflow and installed a new Synergy Reef 16" Shadow with 1.5" drains.
Issues/questions:
1)I discovered my ecotech vortech m1 only has a 3/4 return but I drilled 2 1" return bulkheads. It should be more than enough turnover, right? 30 gallon sump and 105 tank. But would there be issues if I step up to T 2 1" returns?
2)The other issue is my sump. It has 1" drain holes into socks and fuge. If I want to keep 1.5" drains, I need to drill bigger holes in the pretty sump lid (ruby elite). What should I do?
3)What's the best way to seal the original 4 drain/return holes in the base? I was going to put bulkheads in, glue short pipe/caps, and drill holes in some rock to cover. Any other thoughts?
