  1. Cool, I'll have to clean out the 2 specimen cups that I have and give this a try this weekend. Just bait both cups with frozen cubes of mysis or something I guess. Wish me luck in catching that striped devil.
  2. Top Down View, I just noticed that. And I'm supposed to be a cartographer with a great attention to details. Is there a piece of acrylic laying on the top of them to keep the fish from going out the area between the cups once it goes between the handles and into the cups to eat?
  3. How is the upper cup held in place? I need to trap a Sgt Major Damsel out of my tank that is too smart for a net.
  4. I feed my Acans cyclopeeze and Coral Frenzy. Feed the duncans flake food or pellets also
  5. Phillip, all I can say is that 2 wrongs don't make a right. You were accused of not paying a bill and the accusations went a little far. You were afforded plenty of time to tell your side of the story but you never replied with your side which enabled Walt to eventually call you out and get enough rope to hang himself. He has expressed his apoligies publicly on the CMAS board to you and has been embarrassed and humbled in the process. Now, what I see today is that you come over to this board and badmouth the CMAS members, officers, board of directors and forum moderators. I don't have a dog in this fight but I am a member of both organizations. I'm sorry but I am offended by your actions here. Charles Prue
  6. I have a fairly large green serpent star that I've caught more than once eating my snails. I do believe the hermits take care of the snails that fall down and can't get up quickly enough.
  7. I think that Mr Coral had some in a tank when I was up there on Friday. I might be wrong but you can send Sonny a message and ask.
  8. I've got a 75g reef, gsa standard 6 skimmer, deltec kalkstirrer and T5 lighting. I live in Germantown and you can come up anytime and see if you want to
  9. Agree with the long handle Kent scraper, Aquarium One also has them if that is closer.
  10. New Diaphrams for the aqualifter are about $3, whenever mine seems to not be working correctly I put the new diaphrams in and it's good as new. Last ones I ordered were through Scales TFW a few weeks ago. Treesprite, you're in my area, if you want to rebuild your aqualifter give me a PM and I can spare a diaphram kit.
  11. It would sure take a long time to make 20 gallons of that kind of water for a water change. I think I'll stick to the RO/DI water at 3 gallons per hour.
  12. Got this email back from Air Water Ice today. The flow (control) restrictor and the ASOV are both installed on the unit. You're not missing a part (but the instructions are outdated and are in the process of being updated). Best regards, Don Campbell Air, Water & Ice LLC
  13. Got it, that was what I was hoping. I guess the intructions that I have were for the basic Typhoon which doesn't have the fast flush valve so it needs the flow controller piece. AWI just needs to do a better job with their instructions. All white tubing is driving me crazy also since I was used to blue (water in), yellow (water out), orange (waste) with my kent marine unit. I've got it up and running and not showing any leaks after almost an hour of the final testing of the unit so I'm ready to make water.
  14. Was working through the install of my Typhoon III from the group buy. Directions say to connect the drain tube to a tube looking thing called a flow control. There is not a part in the bag that looks like that. Are these instructions just outdated or am I missing a part?
  15. Yes, that is the ESV Kalk that I use and where I order it from. If you get up near Germantown and want to try before you buy I can give you some.
  16. I use the ESV kalk powder and a Deltec Kalk Stirrer, to my defense though I had never heard of GSA when I bought my Deltec. But I did redeem myself and just hooked up an amazing Standard 6 skimmer on my tank. Get a GSA Kalk stirrer and some kalk and hook that bad boy up, you won't be dissapointed.
  17. The T5 lights should hang no more than about six inches above the tank so if the canopy is too tall they won't produce the light.
  18. I've got the Tek 8x54w fixture hanging over my 75 gallon tank. I like the fixture and the light output but the Tek is definately not the way to go if you're looking for more light the light of choice seems to be the ATI 6x54 powermodule. Retrofit is definately more adaptable, if you're going that direction do yourself a favor and get the IceCap retrofit setups, they are a little more expensive, like $60 for a four bulb setup, but run on IceCap ballasts so the bulbs are brighter.
  19. I would think that you would be able to get at least 6 and possibly 8 under there, the two rows of 39 watt lamps would definately be the way to go. Get the icecap retrofit from www.reefgeek.com. Check the T5 Q & A thread on Reef Central for excellent information
  20. If you want to figure out a good setup for T5 bulbs look in the lighting section of Reef Central, there is a monster Q & A thread on T5 lighting. I just recently replaced my bulbs, because they needed it, and read through most of that thread until I found someone with the light fixture I have and the type of tank I have. Read the recommendation of bulbs and bought them from reefgeek.com. Just installed them a few days ago and couldn't be happier, a little bluer than my old bulb combo but the 'pop' in the corals is amazing compared to what I had and my milli's are much hairier during the day. The Grim Reefer knows his stuff when it comes to T5's as far as I'm concerned.
  21. I'll be there to attend my first meeting of WAMAS. Also to pick up my new AWI RO/DI unit from the group buy, saved enough not paying shipping on that to have already paid for my membership.
  22. I wouldn't think that you would have to worry about slight chips from the drilling. The bulkheads will cover them up, as long as the bulkheads will go through the holes all should be good. As for feeling the need to reinforce the glass it shouldn't be necessary when the bulkheads are installed unless you drilled the holes too close together.
  23. There used to be a plastics place on General Washington Drive in Alexandria, back behind Marlo's off Edsall Rd, that sold acrylic sheets and scrap acrylic, I bought some smoke color acrylic there years ago. I'm pretty sure they had black also. Not sure if the place is still there since I haven't lived in VA for 5 yrs now or even the name of it. Someone that lives in Alexandria/Springfield might know better.
  24. I have a Aqua Medic Dosing Pump SP3000 hooked up to a float switch and my kalk stirrer. Dosing pump is about a year old and doesn't seem to be pumping as much water as it should. I have a piece of replacement tubing to put in the pump to see if that would fix it. Directions say to grease the tube before it's installed but doesn't tell me what to grease it with. Any ideas?
  25. What test kits are you using to test the nitrates? When I was using a Aquarium Pharmaceuticals test kit on my tank the Nitrate test often showed a reading of 80-100, I took a water sample to Marine Scene in VA and it tested 15 on their professional kit. I switched to a Salifert Kit and now get a more accurate reading
