  1. I really have no idea of how much waste water I'm getting per gallon but 40 gallons of waste per gallon is definately too much. This time of year a RO unit will produce less product and more waste with the cold water but not that much waste. Are you sure that you have all of the valves set to the correct positions?
  2. I have a Tek fixture on my tank, it is a dependable and good fixture. If you want better get the Aquatinics TX5 or a ATI powermodule fixture.
  3. Blue Ribbon Koi usually has a good supply and fair prices. If you're talking about online I order from ReefGeek
  4. Got on directly from you through a CMAS auction in Sept. 2007, still doing great, bright red, great bubbles and hosting my Ocellaris clowns. Has never split.
  5. Ebo Jager have always been excellent heaters, either use those or the Stealth heaters.
  6. You are not running near enough wattage of heater to heat up that much water unless you have some serious heat being given off from pumps and powerheads. From everything that I had read for years heaters should be 4 or 5 watts per gallon.
  7. Yep, I got up this morning to find my townhouse at 69 degrees. Heater was running but the tank was just getting cooler because fan was still blowing across the water surface, unplugged the fan and the tank was almost 78 degrees before I left for work so my heater is definately working.
  8. Shoot, I had a fishing tournament on the Sassafras River on the eastern shore. Can you say drowned rats? We had to be crazy to be out in that rain and wind but the Sassafras was pretty protected from some of the wind anyway.
  9. With the bottom of the tank and the top of the sump at same height you are going to actually go uphill on the outflow, with the riser height it shouldn't slow it down a whole lot. I would not plumb the outflows together, that will only slow it down more.
  10. Did you get the arcylic shield for the light fixture? If not I would get the shield, until then raise the lights up a little off the tank, they should take some spray without a problem. I would guess that the glass tops on the tank are holding alot of heat in. Put a fan on the tank to blow across the top of the tank to disapate the heat. I run the 8 bulb Tek T5 on my tank about 4" off the water and the tank doesn't usually get over 80 degrees with the fan on.
  11. Since I have a boat I have two very large 31 series deep cycle batteries in my living room fully charged that I use to run the electric trolling motor on the boat. These batteries will run a power inverter for quite some time to run a heater and a couple of power heads to keep my tank going. Thought about rigging up a 750 GPH bilge pump with battery clips to run in place of the return pump but not sure if it would hold up to saltwater.
  12. I just pruned mine a few days ago but it won't be long until it needs it again. Why do they sell this stuff for $5 a bunch with the way it grows?
  13. I use a aquamedic SP3000 dosing pump hooked up to my ATO switch to put water through my kalk stirrer. One of the good things about this pump is it only does like .75 gal/hr, bad thing is that it won't work with all ATO systems since some cut off after 15 minutes as a safety feature and need to be reset to come on again. Don't know anything about a Ca reactor at this point, that will probably be one of my next adventures.
  14. Buying extra bulbs and trying them out is the way to go to get a look that you like. When I had 2 of the Geisemann pure actinic bulbs in my fixture I didn't think they put out much light and looked purple to me. I had the GE 6500K bulb and it looked very yellow. Since I changed my bulbs out the growth in my tank has been much improved and I like the look although my camera sucks so I can't get a decent picture. I have the Tek 8x54 light over my 75.
  15. For T5's and a nice setup for retrofit go with the 4x54w icecap http://www.reefgeek.com/lighting/T5_Fluore...Bulbs_by_IceCap it's $359 right in your price range. Should be able to control the bulbs 2 and 2, will want blue + bulbs in the front and back and probably something like a aquablue special and a daylight in the middle. Will give you a nice setup that should be able to grow most anything if you change your mind on the sps. Otherwise you could go cheaper with a TEK retrofit which won't have as much power or light output as the icecap setup. Either way I would highly recommend reefgeek.com as a place to do business with
  16. Send a PM to SurlyT on CMAS and ask him, he has a 4' retro over his 90. I have the Tek 8x54 so that isn't going to help you.
  17. Their website doesn't show it, or at least didn't the last time I looked, but the Typhoon III that I got during the recent group buy had the pressure guage installed in the bracket
  18. I was out at Marine Scene on Wednesday, their liverock tanks were full to the top.
  19. I've been to Rik's house once long ago before I was even a member of WAMAS. I got hung up in traffic and couldn't make it to Chris's house for a tank tour on time so I went directly to Rik's. He invited me into his home like a old friend although I'd never met him before and showed me his amazing tank. I bought some corals from him that night, dirt cheap for the size of pieces he cut for me, and he gave me a couple more. Rik even discussed my tank and lighting system with me to make sure that I didn't pick something that wouldn't survive in my tank. I still have a nice blue stag that I got from Rik and an amazing Tricolor milli which is my favorite coral. Try to even find the quality of capitive raised corals we get from other members in a LFS for a cheaper price, can't be done. Thanks guys.
  20. No power washer but being from WV I could always throw the rock in the back of my pickup truck and go to the car wash with some quarters
  21. I knew to use the dirty water coming out of the display was what he was suggesting, I just didn't state that I was going to use the water I take out when I do the water change to soak the rocks. My bad.
  22. Thanks guys, I do have water mixed for a display tank water change this weekend so I will put that in with the rocks and put a mag 7 pump in there to get the water moving. I don't think the landscapers in my neighborhood use alot of fertilizer but I don't know what might have gotten into the rocks since they were just piled up in the yard for awhile and did have some dirt and grass clippings on them that I scrubbed off. I'll let them soak for a few days, I'm not in a big hurry to get more rock in the tank.
  23. Just bought a 24g aquapod nano from WAMAS member. I want more rock in the tank and have alot of old florida base rock which has been sitting in my yard dry for a couple of years. Was thinking about using it for this tank which will be used to grow out frags and to keep some small fish that would get lost in my display. I cleaned the rock the best I could last night and put it in a saltwater bath with a powerhead to clean it some more. How long should I leave it soaking before I can put it in the tank? Is it going to go through a cycle like fresh liverock does? Should I throw some chunks of liverock from my sump into the water with it?
