  1. The anemone is probably moving to find better light or water flow. Try repositioning the powerheads for different or more direct flow. It's also probably tough and resillient. Just put him back under a rock on the bottom.
  2. Wow.... My 220g display tank has both top support brackets melted by the Halides. It's been like that for a couple of years now. The front glass has pushed out approximately two (2) inches. Now I have a Bow Front tank. When I eventually break this tank down to move it, I will not be using again to hold water. Hopefully it will last a few more months.
  3. Does it have two pumps? One for pushing water through the skimmer and the other for creating air bubbles and recirculating? Fully open the gate valve. With the circulating pump off and the gate valve open, you should be able to take the skimmer cup off. Water is simply passing through the skimmer and the level should be several inches below the skimmer neck. If the gate valvue is fully open and water is flowing out the top of the skimmer, you will need a smaller pump. (or something is blocking the output)
  4. Calcium precipitate. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-04/rhf/feature/index.php
  5. I used glass covers early on.....but it's widely accepted to use an open top. Additional evaporation is desirable in order to add Kalk via auto top-off. Additional light is desirable for coral growth, and glass covers get dirty with salt and reduce light. Some people build use netting or egg-crate to stop fishes from jumping.
  6. Some people feed their fish only 2 or 3 times a week.
  7. I bought a pair of B-grade Picassos from them last year. I kept them in QT and they both died within a week.
  8. I have many B/W Ocellaris clownfish that I've bred that are slightly malformed. They have what appears to be flared gills or a box jaw. Other than this malformation, they are perfectly healthy. I should have culled them mercilessly, but I'd like to try other alternatives. Free B/W Ocellaris clownfish to any school. You can have as many as you want. Here are some pictures. Notice the fishes in the center of the pics compared to the other fish.
  9. Maybe setup a quarantine tank for the inverts, while the tank is being dosed...
  10. No. Most pods and inverts will die, but some will live. The dosage amount sounds good.
  11. I have some jumbo mexican turbo snails that like to crawl into U-tubes of my overflows...so they can get to other side, of course. The algae is greener over there.
  12. Dan (dandy7200) was kind enough to cut my skimmer down a few inches to fit under my tank. It works great. It was a GSA custom eight that I bought from Tom (Origami2547).
  13. Why? Run out of fresh carrots or Vitamin B or ....?
  14. It's great it is working out for you. It sounds like they will be a mated pair in no time. I have 100 of them in one tank dedicated to just them, and none of them will venture out more than 12 inches from an anemone.
  15. Black Ocellaris and Clarkii fish will be in tanks and available for sale at the meeting on Saturday. Orange Ocellaris are also available from Doug, please post if you're interested in any Orange O's. People that are picking up fish at the meeting should consider bringing a small bucket.
  16. People have done it. But, there is much risk involved. About a year ago, a wamas member who was extremely involved in the group, drilled his display tank while filled, but it didn't go very well. The tank is down, other priorities have entered his life, and now he is no longer involved with the club.
  17. The Copperband Butterfly is one of my favorite fish. It's always hunting for live food such as aiptasia and tube worms. I'm sure he is already ridding your tank of the dreaded aiptasia. It will take a while, but they will eventually be eaten. As Bob suggested, they prefer really small aiptasia, but will eventually eat the bigger ones. I suggest kalking really large ones.
  18. They do that sometimes. It's lucky that it survived.
  19. Thanks Chip. Do you recognize those Anemones? Piper27: WAMAS members can send me a PM to make other arrangments. This is a picture of the female parent Clarkii. She was a beautiful fish.
  20. Ctenophore and I will have our tank-raised clownfish available for sale at the next WAMAS quarterly meeting on May 15th.
