  1. I've had my Reef Tank up since the spring of 1999 with no disasters. I purchased a 220g tank in Feb 1999, filled it with water, and put my fish into it (fish only). One (1) week later I went on vacation to Cancun, Mexico. A few days into the trip I received a phone call from my roommate who said the tank was leaking. I called the PETCO in Laurel and asked them to take my fish and hold them, which they did at no charge. All fish were saved. No disaster. Just a wet basement floor and an empty 220g tank that needed to be replaced. I started the Reef Tank when it was replaced and all has been good since then.
  2. Sweet! Let me know. Dave, that's awesome, and I'm all for it. Maybe we help them raise some fry? Teach them the food chain from the beginning...
  3. This is my setup. I moved the refridgerator to the right 10 feet out of the way and built a stand with four (4) 10g tanks for rearing tanks for multiple hatches (plus I have a 40 breeder below for another spawing pair). It doesn't take up much more space than the refridgerator. The rotifers are in the buckets below. I have 15g of rotifers because I am expecting a huge hatch tonight. I have to collect them from the top of the main diplay reef tank. This is a picture of the four (4) bottle phyto station I built. It has three (3) 20" flourecent bulbs. It also has the brine shrimp hatchery next to it to hatch baby brine and then to enrich (emulsify) them.
  4. One or two hatches would easily saturate the local club. LFS are the obvious initial target for distribtution and we are partnering with some of them, but the vision is national distribution.
  5. Yeah Baby!
  6. I have begun to raise the fry and have two (2) hatches currently going. The 1st hatch is now on day 19 and they are doing very well. The second hatch in on day 9 and also doing well. It was not as difficult as I thought. The unknown is always scary. The next hatch is on Monday night and there are approximately 1200 eggs. I'm expecting to have a large number of fish from the 3 hatches. I don't have the room to grow them out at my house so I'm glad I'm able to partner with other people.
  7. You will have to resort to reef ninja tactics.
  8. Wow. This seems huge....the importance, I mean. Is that really an egg and a larva? Are they live bearers or do they lay eggs? I think that makes a huge difference when treating the tank. Do you use one (1) treatment or three (3)? Justin: What is your opinion? Bob: It would be great to know what the interceptor treatment does on that bugger before it takes his first walk around the coral.
  9. The name Red Bug comes from the red spot on top of the head of the small yellow crustacean. They cause loss of color and poor polyp extension in the corals. Breakout the Interceptor!
  10. I'm still betting on the Hydnophora.
  11. Buy any of the above products and they will come with one. Kalk paste works great. The one's you can't inject you can simply cover and they die.
  12. That can't be good for the coral. Are you sure that's not what is affecting it?
  13. The pump on my RS-180 has quit. Brian, what did you do about yours? I need a new pump. Can I buy a new GenX-4100 to replace this. Will the existing mesh wheel and air intake fit on the new pump?
  14. You're scaring me. Really nice pictures. The red chalice is awesome.
  15. You should consider comlexity, maintenance, and cost. Two-part is fairly simple. I've never used two-part, but if you have to do something everyday, I would consider that high maintenance. Aren't the monthly costs higher with two-part? A kalk stirrer gets loaded once a week and the Ca reactor twice a year. That's low maintenance. You already have them both, so there is no significant cost increase. However, the Ca reactor adds some complexity to the system and another point of failure.
  16. The Ca, Alk, or Mg levels may be low. Are you testing the water parameters? I add a Mg diluted chloride/sulphate mix directly to the overflow/sump which works great for me.

  18. What type of special tank design considerations are necessary? How to you enrich (gutload) the artemia?
  19. My Clarkiis are on a 11 day cycle, 8 days to hatch and 3 days to lay again Day 1 - Lay eggs Day 9 - Eggs Hatch Day 12 - Lay eggs again I think Doug's Oscellaris are on a 12 day cycle. 8 days to hatch and 4 to lay again.
  20. Sweet! How about a flower pot, maybe one broken in half?
  21. Success!!!! I have Eggs on Tile. Yeah Baby! I put several tiles covering the glass where she was previously laying. She laid in the exact same spot, but on the new tile. Wohooo! Doug, get ready for 800-1000 Clarkii eggs, brother.
  22. Great! Thanks. We now have a handful of Egg Suppliers, a couple Hatchers, and a few Growers. Excellent! We're still looking for more Egg Suppliers. If you have a breeding pair, please post here or send a pm. We would like to hatch those eggs or help you hatch them and get them to distribution.
  23. I would think it should be refrigerated unless it's used quickly.
  24. Congrats on all fish making it. Would you be able to retreive the eggs if they began breeding in the reef tank?
