That's a Pink tipped Green Frogspawn child of a coral that I received from Steve Outlaw. I'm glad you're happy with it. Enjoy!

This tank look great. I really like it. I suggest keeping the plants. They definately add value and character to the setup. Let them grow but.... Trim back to shape them the way you want or Trim back to make room for other stuff that you want to add. Otherwise, let it grow baby, let it grow....

How many of you guys (and gals) use a refractometer?

I'm Old-School. I still use a simple floating glass hydrometer. -
Very nice. There's a good variety of color. It's come along nicely...

They also have the best price on salt in MD. That's where I'm getting my salt now. I stop in to get a great deal on salt and also buy the other items that I need. Thumbs up!

Yes, it probably is a huge job, but that's their business. That's what they do... All of the reputable LFS locally quarantine. It's in their best interest to have healthy livestock to sell.

If you had two tanks on one system ... light cycles?
Almon replied to lanman's topic in General Discussion
All my tanks run together as one system. I have three (3) fish / coral tanks and one (1) refugium. They are all on the same light cycle. I do this for the same reason that I use an extened photo periold, and for the same reason that Dan suggests. I want to enjoy all of them during hours of the day that I'm awake. -
Move a tank with water??? Well... SOME water...
Almon replied to lanman's topic in General Discussion
I've done it with a 55g. By myself... I've detailed the technical instructions below: Lift one end up Move a few inches to the LEFT Put tank back on floor Lift other end up Move a few inches to the RIGHT Put tank back on floor Repeat as necessary until you have reached your destination. Note: Be sure you alternate between left and right, otherwise you will go in a circle. BTW: Nice Rack! -
Great idea! Someone should run with it....

I have a small pump in my 50g new saltwater container connected to a (garden) hose that runs into the sump. At the same time new water is being pumped into the sump.... I have a siphon from the top of the tank connected to a tube that empties down into a drain. They both add / remove water at the same rate, so I rurn the pump on, start the siphon, and wait .......worst case, I forget that I'm changing water, and I remove 10 gallons too much. Key Points Hose from new water container to sump Hose from tank to drain Add water at the same rate it is removed

Yes, definitely have someone checking on your tank while you are away. We have a friend come to the house once a day to feed all of the animals. I also line up a wamas member that is close that I can call if necesary. Definitely have someone (reliable) checking on your tank while you are away.

The Heliopora doesn't seem to mind too much. It's a tough coral.

Salifert makes excellent test kits. I've had very positive experiences with them. Any test kit can be compromised to the point that it is inaccurate and it's almost always due to the consumer, whether it's been stored improperly or is three (3) years old, or whatever. I also agree that your test kit is suspect, but not because it was manufactured by Salifert. I don't notice the need to add more Mag Supplements over calcium or Alkalinity supplements. It seems that I need more Calcium and Carbonate additives than Magnesium. You may also wnat to consider the possibility that your Mag supplement is not as efficient as you think. It may not be adding the amount of Mag that you think it is.

It was my friends that went on vacation to Fiji and took these pictures. I wish I was them... Many of these fish I see in reef tanks. The slideshow has 165 pictures and takes several minutes. Enjoy... http://share.shutterfly.com/view/flashShar...id=8YcNmbNw1bFA

Hi Johnny, Would you by chance have a mogul socket for metal halide available? If yes, maybe a reflector to go with it? Thanks, Almon

I was thinking the same thing. It's awesome that the customer service is so good, but why do so many Tunzes have problems? Was it a bad batch? Just bad luck? A 75% failure rate for any product is unacceptable. I've bought six (6) Koralia 4's and one (1) has failed. I think that is still a very high failure rate, but better than 3 out of 4. Maybe it's my expectation that needs adjustment.

I need a Mogul socket for metal halide. Anybody got an extra?

Do you mean Epson Salts alone? That would be due to the build up of Sulphate, right? The Chloride / Sulphate balance can be kept by using a 10:1 mixture of 10 parts Magnesium Chloride (mag flake) to 1 part Magnesium Sulphate (epsom salt). That is close to the balance in seawater.

I have two Garf Purple Bonsai. Send me a PM for info.

I agree that the local resellers that are involved with this club are conciencious and concerned to some extent. Sean from Aquaco has said that he does not purchase from the nameless wholesaler, and I believe Sean from Fins and Feathers has also posted about his some of his efforts. Kudos to these resellers! These are the type of efforts that we, as concerned consumers, should encourage. But we, the consumers, can and will do more if we have more information to work with. I hope Sean continues to provide insightful tales and horrors of the industry. That will help us understand how bad it really is, and maybe it will help us understand that we are sometimes part of the problem. Hypothetically, what if we knew that a wholesaler, let's say, The Bozo Company, was poorly handling livestock to the point that the consumer, let's call him Josh, buys a Blue Chromis and it dies because of the handling of the Bozo Company and there is nothing he can do to save it. Then a concerned citizen, let's call him Bob, is offended that the Bozo Company would treat the livestock in such a poor manner. Bob does several things. He calls local resellers and asks them not purchase from this terrible company. Bob also writes the Bozo Company to complain and ask them to treat the livestock better. The Bozo Company continues as usual, but Bob talks to Almon, and then John. Almon talks Jim and Susan. Now there are several concerned consumers that are asking the resellers to stop purchasing from the Bozo Company, and writing letters. We all talk to more consumers, and post threads and blogs, and eventually, there are 10,000 concerned consumers asking the resellers to stop purchasing from Bozo Company. There are 10,000 concerned consumers that are writing the Bozo company, and other concerned organizations, asking the Bozo Company to treat the livestock better. I think that would affect change.
