I'd just put true union valves on every place you'd want to disconnect when moving the sump. That way you could make sure you don't get any remaining water leaking out of the pipes on the floor when everything is disconnected and they're easy to clean if needed.

Hhrrrmmmm awesome tank and as for the plumbing...use unions...screw off and screw back together...just make sure they are high enough to clear when you move the sump...

So it sounds like true unions all around and not flex pipe.

Thanks! Cat walk is already in planning stages. May include aluminum scaffolding like the guys use when installing siding. That is the latest idea.

This is getting good. Glad you got the hang of putting pictures up! Take some picts of the framing!

I take the pics, my wife gets them off the camera into my WAMAS gallery, and I post them from there. That is part of the reason I have a delay, I have to wait till she has a moment to get them in my gallery.

Demo pics are taken, and framing pics will also be taken once we get there. I look at this as a personnel diary so I have notes on what did. Then when I build a 3001 gal aquarium in a greenhouse behind my house with cooling line in the ground, and a multicolor floor I will know if I should change   anything.

Man, I need to get over there and give you a crash course. It's super easy!

I am sure it is, I just need step by step instructions. once I have them and I do it 15-20 times I will remember. I am just not on a computer for work, and anything computerwise I need done my wife has done for the last 20 years (Masters from Johns Hopkins in integrated systems design). So I am a computer idiot since anything I need done gets done for me.

You are welcome anytime!...I would get through the wedding first!

Now I have to make some space for the location of the new tank. I also will need to run a new exhaust line out of the house for the exhaust fan.

Oops! Where did the wall go? The way this is going to be cantilevered into the gym I will need to build it as part of a new wall, and anchor it into the concrete. So an 8' section of wall had to come down. The second picture is from the opposite direction.

This is the view looking back at where the sink belongs. I had to take it out to do the floor.

Now the PSL stand is going to get built. 8' long stand, no center support. Wide open under the tank. I also think I figured out a way to be able to roll my  sump out from under the tank stand for maintenance. I just have to figure out how to either have disconnects for all the pipes, or use flexible pipe that can move 2'+/-

Any thoughts?

i did a 7.5' long stand for mine with some LVLs sistered (completely over built) and it's been great and holding level nicely. you will love having the unencumbered room. not having to maneuver around even a 2" square steel support is very nice. most folks just use heavy duty casters with side mount rails to roll in and out nicely especially since you have smooth floors. like most said, true-unions not just here but everywhere or at least enough pipe between joint to put them in later. you'll be glad you did.

The PSL's are parallel-strand lumber and are pressure treated. I am going to use 3.5" x 9.25" beams, and then cantilever the same size joists over top of the beam for a 8"+/- overhang. So the tank will only have that 9.25" support showing as the tank sticks out of the wall. The top of the tank will have the wall follow it so that it does not block any light from above.

As far as the sump. I found these recessed ball transfers that I plan on using on a sheet of marine grade plywood so it is low profile. Based on the load, I think 6 will be more then enough, and prevent warping. They will be stainless steel to give it a little more life. Then I will add true unions at all the connections, along with gate valves to shut it down so I can roll it out for service.

Looks insane. It definitely shows the scope of the project a bit better with the wall gone.

And I suggest the valves for a good reason.. The cost difference will be a whopping $20-40 depending on how many you're getting vs unions. And I've redone my plumbing enough times to absolutely hate disconnecting anything. Every time I do, I get half a cup of salt water to catch before it hits carpet

One advantage I will have is that the floor is now sealed concrete with a floor channel drain. All of the floor bottom plates are caulked and then sealed with silicone. After green board goes up, I am going to install a composite baseboard with more caulk. I should be able to run a open hose in the room and squeegee it all out to the drain.  Even if it got out into the gym, that is a concrete floor with a rubber floor on top-  so no damage.

Good call on the unions by everyone, I figured I would need them everywhere.

Looks nice! What kind of vino do you have in there?

I am assuming your are referring to the wooden room next to the fish room. Well....it would be pretty bad wine if I kept it in there....It is a sauna.

wow..people still use saunas? I would have never thought! haha.

I love them, and now I will be able to sit in the sauna, or workout and watch the tank. Even more reason to get down into the gym!

Wow Ken, you have been a busy bee since the pickup ;).  Just got caught up on your thread.  Your basement looks COMPLETELY different than when I was in there for the initial consult lol.  I forgot about your little IM16 too.  And now I remember being impressed because you actually plumbed that little sucker all the way down to the basement lol ;).

Can't wait to see it all continue coming together!  I love exceptionally detailed builds!

Also, I believe I do have other pics of the tank complete before it was wrapped.  I can upload a couple of them for you if you like =).....or we can leave everyone sitting in complete suspense hehehe.

If you want to upload them to this thread that is fine, or put hem in my gallery (not sure if you can do that) that would also be OK. I am a little bit slow at getting pics up, so that might calm the masses

Working on getting some new pics up this weekend. maybe my wife will help tomorrow since it is Father's Day

The PSL's were delivered this week and I had to cut them down to get them in the house they only come in 20' sections. The Marine Grade plywood also showed up and that is now down stairs with the 6" x 6" posts. This thing need to be sturdy for all the climbing around on the tank and on the stand I plan on doing. Also if my kids want to go snorkeling.

I think I can get both of them in the tank with snorkeling gear on for the "mermaid pic". My wife has already declined.
