  1. will be there too.....hope i win one cool frag.....
  2. thanks to this thread I may have figured out my issues......had no idea how to take blur free pics w/ my point and shoot.....thank you once again wamas :-) will try these helpful hints this weekend.....wonder if there is a simple FAQ we could pin on the boards about this topic.
  3. On my 90, I have the return pump adding water to the display from the top center pointing down maybe 15 - 20 degrees and split into 2 nozels pointed at each front corner.....next are 2 maxijets positioned halfway down in the tank in back corners both aimed at center front.....next is a jbj 1800 powerhead with dual outputs sitting in center of back wall pointing at far front corners.....next I have a mjmod 1200 on left side 5in from top of water line pushing water from R to L ........powerheads are controlled by a Reef Fanatic Wave Creator....except mjmod...which is controlled by a timer (only on when lights are on about 8 - 10 hours)....return pump is a ehiem 1262....do like the wavysea idea.....I would try to mix the hights to prevent dead spots and be a random as possible.
  4. wow, was thinking along the same lines.....I dropped my HOB DIY fuge and need to rebuild....had just sent a PM the flowerseller on the topic but will post here too..... What thickness should I be looking for? 1/4" is thicker then the original fuge....looks closer to 1/8". Found a site professionalplastics.com that sells plexi off all types and was looking at the following.... 1) .250 THICK #2025 EXTRUDED ACRYLIC (SACR.2502025E) Size: 18 x 36 Inches (black) Qty: 2, Price Per unit $41.90, subtotal $83.80 2) .250 THICK CLEAR EXTRUDED ACRYLIC P/M (SACR.250EP) Size: 5 x 24 Inches Qty: 4, Price Per Unit: $7.86, subtotal $31.44 3) .250 THICK CLEAR EXTRUDED ACRYLIC P/M (SACR.250EP) Size: 5 x 36 Inches Qty: 2, Price Per Unit: $12.91, subtotal $25.82 total 141.06....not including shipping What do you think? would require drilling holes for plumbing...and gluing of course but should I be looking for thinner material? Is Extruded Acrylic ok to use? The fuge that broke was 36in x 18in x 4in and hung on the back of my 55 (glass) and then up until I stupidly knocked it off my 90 (plexi). Was going to do a rebuild since 4 of the 5 sides now have LARGE cracks....not going to to HOB unit again but will need to fit behind display tank.....just for filling with water and chaeto I wonder if acme plastic would be cheeper.....esp with adding in shipping costs.
  5. If you have a 1 inch bulkhead the standpipe needs to be larger than the bulkhead to work correctly. Typically if you use 1 inch PVC pipe on a 1 inch bulkhead you get poor results. (Some exceptions with smaller low flow tanks.) For very large tanks with large return pumps however, there does not seem to be any need to oversize the standpipe for larger bulkheads such as 1.5 inch. Larger bulkheads can use PVC pipe & fittings that match the size of the bulkhead. (I consider tanks in the 350 gallon and up good candidates for 1.5 inch bulkheads). -----above taken from http://www.dursostandpipes.com/ I have 1.5" durso conected to 1.5" overflow connected to 1.5" drain....works like a champ.....have also seen dual durso setup in one overflow box but the tuning takes more time...
  6. my quiteone 2200 only makes racket when the water level is not sufficient to cover the pump.....
  7. Was this the only time you measured the TDS of the water going into the RO/DI unit and the TDS of the water leaving the RO/DI unit (not the waste water)...
  8. did that myself once or twice....tds still reads 0 for me....in 135 out 0 :-).....what is your tds level in compaired to out?
  9. Have you checked the connections? All you need is one loose or corroded connection.. have you tried to measure for voltage to the lamps/sockets?
  10. just ordered and stumbled accross your site lastnight. Very nicely designed site. nice price on the wavysea +
  11. good to know. update.....GEO is powered with a maxijet 400...great pump but mine has already failed....problem with impeller luckly one from mj600 fits in a 400 body :-) really like the work quality of the geo
  12. I have the Geo Kalkwasser Reactor and it works well....exept the powerhead that runs the unit is making alot of grinding noises after only about 4 months....have not cleaned it and will try to take the thing apart and hope it is not too late.
  13. Has anyone used 250 watt 12,000K SE ReefLux Bulbs? I have to buy bulbs and have used 14k Hamilton Bulbs in the past and have been happy with them. I do not have nor do I plan to add any acnics to the system so I am just asking if anyone have used the Reeflux bulbs and what they thought of them. The cheepest I have found these online are $62.95 from PremiumAquatics and while the Hamilton bulbs are $47.99 from Fishsupply.com Any help would be great.
  14. I have been running the Hamilton 14k bulbs with good results. I do not have any actinic bulbs just 2 x 14k 175watt bulbs on my 90. Will be going to a 2x250watt Hamilton setup is I can ever find the time to change my ballasts out. no chip, have still not assembled the new ballasts..... :(
  15. Under my 90 I have the following: 29 gal long sump turboflotor 1000 in-sump skimmer kalk reactor fluval 404 (only on when I need chemical filtration) Ehiem 2162 in-sump return pump PH/ORP monitor 2nd heater (1st heater is in overflow of display tank) proper planning is the key. My display stand has 3 doors on the front but I had a side door put in so I could slide up to a 55 inside. You can put all those things on your list under the stand if you plan properly. Things not in my stand: remote ballast for MH lights (did not want to transfer the heat to water) 5 gal bucket for kalk/auto top-off system. (still trying to figure out how much water I want to use for auto top-off (currenlty use about 5gal a week)
  16. my controller does the following tells me to get out of bed and into the shower tells me that she "NEEDS" a new pair of shoes screams that the laundry room if too full of fish junk tells me I spend too much money on the tank oh wait, you are not asking about the wife :-)
  17. excellent to know we have a DSS rep here.....I may have questions like approved DSS applications for removing data from hard-drives for example.
  18. ....I guess well maybe someone did think of this....or maybe it is not of concern.....we will have a mix of salt in the water bing supplied....I know most here seem to be using IO but some use Oceanic and others like myself use Seachem Reef Mix....should we label the containers according to the salt we are using?
  19. I have a simular one on my 90....36x4x12....got it off ebay for about the same and flowerseller built one from looking at mine....works well in my view....I just have it packed full of chaeto used for neutrient export.....what are your plans for it....I would not suggest filling it with sand for a HOT DSB just because of weight but for growing macro it works great...mine runs a mj1200 for water flow...
  20. conclusion.... Sad to report, at approximately 5:15pm, my LTA decided enough was enough and flung itself into the shroud of my one and only mj1200 mod.....needless to say, the maxi-jet displayed no mercy and the LTA suffering was no more....from the looks of things, death was quick but very brutal
  21. In search of help. If you follow the links below, you will see some pics of my poor LTA. Hard to tell it is an LTA but it is. That is the problem. Been like that for over a week now. not extending, can not tell if it is eating.....After reading a few threads about anemones, I took it out of the tank and gave it a big sniff...no smell, no smell at all. I even looked for cuts in the mouth and sides, nothing. Mouth looks fine....no cuts
  22. I am in the process of replacing my magnetic ballasts with electronic....course I am also upgrading ballasts from 175 to 250. I went with icecap.....found them for $114 at Marine Depot I am going with this one instead.... Ocean Encounter IceCap 250watt Halide Retro Kit w/bulb ($179 including bulb...I did upgrade to a 14k hamilton for an extra $20)
  23. I guess you don't need to worry about brushes now....By the way, done with ladder.
