  2. tyree and Jason are discussing it right now!
  3. FW dip for 5r mins, ive been doing that for years on clams and zoa colonies when they first come in....toothbrush works too.
  4. trying to get Icecap to do anything right now is next to impossible. Ive been trying to get some replacement parts and i was calling and leaving messages for a week straight. luckily champion had them. Chris is now working for VUE, and I believe pretty much everyone who made icecap "Icecap" are gone. the vue ballasts are nice and dimmable for around the same price as the icecaps. that being said they have alot of new lighting products out there. sean
  5. I dont think its a question of whether or not the bacteria in your tank will suffice, I would just watch your alk, pH and keep your skimmer runnin a lil wet for when it cycles/blooms. Sean
  6. Ive emploeyed them in a reactor in two of my systems. first thing i noticed was the reduction of algae growth. Sure enough the pellets allowed the bacteria to remove nitrates and phosphates. On my fish only system i only have to scrub them once a week and theres not that much to scrub. On my LPS/softy tanks i notcied that I catually have to add nutrrients back to the water for the corals, so far though no algae growth...the pellets destroyed(starved) my bryopsis and valonia I have in some frag tanks. Sean
  7. rob, PM me your #....I might be able to help/tell you where to get them locally.\ Sean

  15. +1 i use 6 panorama 450-460 nm strips mounted into the canopy of my 180 along with 3x250w MH and its waaaayyy better then any other actinic supp ive used BTW there is a group buy for them
  16. if your looking for a good way to raise the KH w/o affecting the pH you ca mix soda ash and baking soda. I usually add 3-4tbsp baking soda - 1 tbsp soda ash. the soda ash neutralizes a lot of the co2 from the baking soda. your pH will not be too affected where as using just ash(carbonate) might cause the pH to raise too much.
  17. Thanks Club President for the endorsement of ANY of the reputable LFS that are premium sponsors of this club. .02
  18. i love downdraft skimmers...miss you guys tho
  19. ive never tried superglue, but when i have gotten it on corals they react poorly to it...but take that with a grain of salt b/c thats just my own experience. the epoxy can be shaped to fill the skeletonand smother the bacteria thats eating away at the tissue. Sean
  20. I havent used it on SPS as ive always just fragged the coral before its too late then dip the sps in 5mL of lugols/gallon tank water and that works well. As far as the LPS corals go ive had great success(greater than 95%) with using epoxy to stop brown jelly bacterium, necrosis from sting, and necrosis from bleaching. Think of it as snuffing out a fire. I can't remember where i picked this up...either calfo or fenner, one of their books. but in the book they were demonstrating it on wild brain corals with tremendous success. it typically, if done right(you have to cover some of the still living part to ensure that you stop it) stops necrosion overnight and within a week the coral polyps should be extending or feeding again. It does however, as we all know in this hobby, take a great deal of time for the LPS grow over the epoxy. hope that helps Sean BTW, ive found that the best product to dip in is either Kent tech D, or TM pro coral cure( for tissue repair)
  21. cover the recession line with epoxy
  22. lutz123, I make an effort to say hello to everyone who walks through our doors. I apologize if you were not helped to your satisfaction. As far as my daughter running around barefoot...I'm a clorox bleach fanatic. I bleach the entire floor at least once a day, AND spot clean with bleach whenever our pups are running around. I was born and raised in South Africa, running around barefoot all the time. I don't think I even knew what shoes were until I was like 7. And, Evan is correct, my daughter has not been sick once, but thank you for your truly genuine concern regarding my parenting. Angelique
  23. I think your fine if your adding ionic magnesium, its just that topping of with kalk lowers your mag levels over time, thats why I asked. I use around that(neomag) maybe a lil more. it would definately be cheaper than mag chloride as it is very, very dense and even when i have to add ARM to the reactor, sometimes I dont need to add any neomag...It lasts a LONG time. However IME you need to lower the pH in the reactor more than you normally would to dissolve the neomag. I like it and use it. Ive been told you can use dolomite but i feel that dolomite has other impurities that i would want to dissolve into my tank. Sean
  24. Mark, Are you topping of with kalk? If so you might want to consider adding dolomite or Bwells Neomag to add Mag back to the tank. in my SPS trays and grow outs i keep the controller set 5.9-6.1, and I use a blend of neomag, ARM course, and aquamedic hydrocarbonate. The ARM is a good media readily available but I decided to add the aqua medic stuff to increase the alk in the effluent. Sean
