  1. Well we just got a ton of material leftover from some larger projects. lots of 1/2" material 20" wide by 8ft. long. There is also a lot of 3/8" material along with a little bit of 1/4". I have some white and black material although it's limited. if you have any frag tanks or other larger tanks with this 1/2" that you want to have done email me and I will shoot a quote back. jeffhaddock@comcast.net
  2. they are a big surprise if you just stumble in there to pick some other pet stuff. Very nicely laid out reef set up and have great pricing. They are very enthusiastic about the uptick in their salt stuff since they revamped and from what I hear more is on the menu down the road. Take a look and get a surprise.
  3. I have been using Deltecs for many years and the KM500 and the KM500S have been extremely easy to use and maintain. IT is the only reason I use them because when we are servicing a tank we don't want to spend too much time fooling with hard to use or time consuming designs. I have found the Deltecs to be the easiest. JMO
  4. sent you a pm back on the media reactor
  5. There really isn't any benefit to running the overflow the entire length of the tank. It adds to the cost and surface skimming isn't that much of an issue to warrant adding $$$ to the tank. I ran a 750g reef tank with 70 fish choc filled with corals and only a 800 gallonan hour rollover. Having 40 sq. ft. to surface skim was not an issue when I had a 2" elbow for my overflow. I ran that setup for 5yrs. w/o any buildup of surface scum/layers. Your other issue aside from the uneccessary $$$ is that it takes up space sticking out from the tank. Youw'd be better off just making the tank larger..........more for your money. JMO
  6. We can do custom glass tanks (less than 150gallons) whether it being a frag tank or full blown aquarium we are doing glass tanks custom made to your specifications. We will build a sharp looking tank with belveled edge work that you see on high end tanks. YOu will see clean silicone work and price wise we will come in usually a little higher than the economy tank builders. Acrylic tanks are also availble in any size you want. We will make rimless braceless tanks or euro braced tanks in cell cast acrylic. We have 17 years of experience and specialize in large tanks however, we will build any size from a small top off tank or sump to a large multi-thousand gallon tank. Quotes generally given within 24hrs. but, most within 12hrs. Let us know what you want. email @ jeffhaddock@comcast.net
  7. oh, I thought you were putting this chiller on the store system.
  8. www.mcmaster.com has it all and if you order by 3pm it will be here the next day. They have all sizes and colors.
  9. John, I have a 1hp chiller running then through a Bubble King 500 and have had no issues compared to where the skimmer ran w/o a chiller prior. This is on a 1300gallon system. Did you buy one of the new Deltecs? Marvin stopped by yesterday and brought out one of the new Deltecs. Very Nice!!
  10. That store spawned off a number of new store owners over the years, T. Lagoon Tropical Fish World Totally Fish are just a few that I know of. The owners of these stores at one time worked at Showcase. Nobody mentions them as they really have never done much by way of saltwater. If your in that area your better off spending your time at T. Lagoon where Steve (owner) will take great care of you and give you great advice.
  11. Brian, just want to clarify the Weldon #3 #4 thing; You will not find tank mfg.s using either of these solvents on aquariums. The larger aquariums in particular would not do well using either of those bonding agents. MC Bond is another one but, not nearly as popular and perhaps is a little better asthetically when your look at the joint clarity when the surfaces are properly machined. Now for the smaller stuff you will find some mfg.s using some of these common solvents but, their use is fairly limited. I say this and with most of those that have used these it is very hard to get a asthetically pleasing joint (ie. bubble free). The other issue is the strength of the joint not nearly where it needs to be if your concerned with it popping apart. You will find that tank mfg.s use their own "homemade" solvents as I do. They are made for their particular manufacturing environment and are customized for seasonal changes often. A lto of research and experience with mixing your own solvents has to be done in order to be able to put together a large acrylic tank. Not too long ago I gave a little of my concoction to a fellow member who builds equipment using acrylic, who normally uses Weldon products and the feedback I received is that my solven was the best they had ever used. Now after having said all of that Weldon #4 is certainly ok for the novice to make something that is 30 gallons or less. After that gallonage the risk goes up considerably and ones technique has to go up correspondingly to be able to have whats built stay together for years.
  12. Why Acrylic?... Strength: It is widely accepted that acrylic is 16-17 times stronger than glass of the same thickness, with much better impact resistance. Because the joints are chemically bonded, not simply siliconed together, they are also stronger as well, and much more appealing visually. They do not run the risk of blowing out as siliconed joints can. The strength of acrylic tanks give their owners the peace of mind knowing that their tank will not crack, shatter, or blow out unexpectedly. Weight: Acrylic is roughly half the weight of a glass tank built out of the same thickness materials. This allows for easier moving, installations, less expensive shipping, and will require less persons to get it to where it needs to be. You will not need to lie about the level of difficulty when soliciting help from friends to move your tank. Better viewing properties: Acrylic of any thickness is clearer than glass due to its natural composition and properties. It does not have a greenish tint and will not ever turn yellow, like the acrylics of yesterday could. Acrylic will not distort like glass will, especially when viewing your tank at an angle. It also has a better light transmission level. You will find few larger public displays that are not done out of acrylic. Better insulating properties: Acrylic will not conduct heat and cold as well as glass will, thus making it a better insulator by 20%. Acrylic aquariums will regulate and minimize temperature fluctuations better, giving you a more stable system. This characteristic also saves on electricity, as your heater (or chiller) does not need to work as hard. Forming characteristics: Because acrylic is a thermoplastic it can be formed in almost any way, which makes tank design possibilities almost limitless. Custom curves and bends are much easier to do with acrylic, and sometimes impossible to do with glass. Glass has limitations on size while acrylic does not. For many custom shapes and unique designs, there is no other choice. Spectacular viewing possibilities are available because of the versatility of acrylic. It is also possible for anyone to drill their own acrylic tank while it is often difficult to find somebody to drill a glass tank if you need it done. Acrylic tank joints are also more visually appealing as they are clear and do not require the use of silicone. They may also be rounded over for extra beauty as well as to eliminate sharp edges. Acrylic is refinish able: The one disadvantage of acrylic is that it scratches easier than glass. However, a wide variety of scratch removal kits are available to the consumer and are relatively easy to use. Scratches in glass are nearly impossible to remove. Scratches in acrylic are easily preventable with proper care and precautions. When cleaning the interior of your tank, do not go all the way down to the gravel line right away. Do the entire tank but leave an inch or two above the gravel line. Do this last. This reduces the chance that you will pick up a bit of gravel on your brush or magnet and scratch the tank. Trying to get too creative with decorations by stacking them up precariously has led to many scratches as well when they are toppled by fish or currents. Scratching is usually the #1 concern of persons considering an acrylic tank, and is easily preventable with proper care.
  13. That is a good suggestion. If I were to be building this tank my preference would be to see a granite top that the tank sits on. That way Iwould be comfortable knowing that there would not be any flex. If I could not have that and since the tank is 30" tall with a lot of weight per sq. ft. I'd want the bottom piece to be 1.25" thick and have the two 3/4" sheets of plywood. I have seen tanks over the last 17 or so years that have been put on pretty funky stand setups. When removed some tanks can't even sit upright due to the bottom being all bowed and disfigured but, they are still able to hold water. In the end odds are your going to be ok but, a mfg. is not going to warranty the tank unless the stand is appropriate. In addition, if you go to mfg.s websites most won't do a real warranty unless it's on their own stand. I'd suggest that whoever makes your tank that you have them sign off on the stand and provide some drawings that they can sign off on. Your really likely are going ot have to have that bottom piece of the tank beefed up or that top deck of the stand beefed.
  14. Tank cannot overhang the stand. The entire bottom perimeter must be supported. In most cases the tank must sit on a solid supported surface or most mfg.s won't warranty the tank. If the bottom is beefed up however you could do some ribbing to support the bottom but, the perimeter must be fully supported.
  15. I also seem to remember that Grainger sells them if you want to get them locally. Been a long time though since the last time I checked.
  16. I would agree with Dan in that they are great for supplimentary help but, you really want to have the horsepower of some big guys and use the suction cups as backup. I have used them many times over the years to move both heavy sheets of acrylic and large acrylic project. The ones to use are the ones with the pump on them to keep the suction at it's highest.
  17. Dave, I have a client that has a 1000 gallon tank you could use that is a solid setup. You would be welcome to take a look at it prior of course. If you have my number still give me a ring. I can either put you directly in touch with him or you can go through me. Let me know,
  18. Stu, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.........................did you want teeth? I can have this done for you in the next two days if you go with black or clear material. I do have some blue as well. I'll pm you the cost options.
  19. On Monday I am going to go through the scrap pile and see what there is for building sump and frag tanks. Top-off tanks will be done as well. There will be special pricing on these however the sumps will need to be simple sumps with one, two or maybe three baffles/partitions in them to be considered for the special pricing. Turn around will be inside of two weeks. I will anounce the length and width limitations at a later date when I look over my inventory. IMPORTANT!!!!! EMAIL ME & DO NOT PM ME AS MY PM BOX FILLS TOO QUICKLY. YOU'LL GET A FAR FASTER RESPONSE IF YOU EMAIL ME. jeffhaddock@comcast.net Please provide drawings of any sumps if you can as that will make for a faster quote and turn around time. Last go around we did 14 tanks, sumps, and topoff tanks with some of them being done the same day for pickup. I have found this the better way to go especially with pickups as often people pick up theirs and someone elses to save the trip. I can be paid with paypal or cash on pickup. thanks in advance, Jeff
  20. Oh gee Jan I am so sorry that caught your ankle Although you were right in front of me I did not see that catch your ankle and hope that your ankle isn't too uncomfortable. I know this stuff can cause some aches and pains along with some really good cuts and scrapes I just hope your ok. Note to self; use thinner material for demonstrations
  21. I use to live in Olney and Tropical Lagoon is straight down Georgia Ave. about 20min. with good traffic and 30 minutes heavy traffic. My oppinion is they are your best bet.
  22. Just want to thank everyone who took me up on the specials I was running on custom acrylic tank work. It was by far the best turnout for taking orders Wamas has ever done. The specials are over as I used most of the material I had alotted for this special. Just wanted to thank everyone for the trust and support in having me make what you wanted.
  23. Having dealt with this problem many times before ...................I just put some muratic acid in the tank with water and let it sit for days and it melts off...........no scraping needed.
  24. I am extending the specials(USE MY EMAIL jeffhaddock@comcast.net and not my pm box. ) that i posted a week ago. Right now I am limited to 4ft. long and a max height of 17" . I have a bunch of museum quality acrylic (3/8") thick to use. This is Lanmans water topoff tank 33"x 16" x 18" A closeup of Leishmans frag area of his 48x24x17" sump closeup again of Leishmans back shot of Leishmans 48" x 24" x 17" Larry Greniers 6ft long frag tank top view of Larry G's 72" by 18" x 17" frag tank Davebeas's 36" long sump tank Chubakah's refugium tank Moga Tuck Amay111 reefhunter I will post pics of yours next week.
