  1. I've been keeping tabs on this thread and I have a question for Yauger.... why have the slot on the back? Why not have just have that back piece at the level you want the water level to be? That way the tank looks a lot cleaner.............take a look at stratos's tank and the back panel in particular. Jeff
  2. Larry, I'd just use one of the Magnavore magnets for 1/2" acrylic. I would just load up on extra pads when you get one. This in conjunction with one of those plastic scrapers should serve well. Jeff
  3. As far as the mess is concerned I can tell you Erik that things have been refined quite a bit since. I usually have at least one person with me and set up to contain the shavings. Also, the amount of shavings are dramatically less than one might think due to the accuracy of the CNC router. We literally are only routing off a 1/16th of an inch and not much comes off. Erik, if I remember correctly we hogged off about a 1/2 inch with yours. Yauger........checking pm's now Jeff
  4. Then again you can have the tank built in the room it's going in. Not too difficult to do and you can watch it being made.
  5. Just to let everyone know...........Petland is indeed expanding their marine area. I know this as I am building a number of large tanks for them in the coming weeks. In addition they are investing in large sumps for their new system and heavy filtration systems. The first stage should be done in about a month with more to follow soon thereafter. I spent a good bit of time with the owner last week and he is dedicated to the idea of making this part of the store a quality section of his business. I certainly did not get the feeling of cheesebagging things at all but, rather a dedication of doing it right. I would look to see them be a player in the coral/saltfish biz in a couple of months.
  6. The price I pm'd you was for a 8 foot tank as I understand it to be. A 6 foot tank is a lot less. Your gonna want to stay at 30" or below though to keep the yield out of the sheet high. Break certain dimensions and another sheet of material has to be purchased hence the price going up a lot. For You and anyone else thinking about large tanks; Sheets of the thicker material come in 6' x 8', 4'x8', 6'x10' or sometimes 5 footers are available but, not often. So say you want a 8 foot long by 3 foot tall tank...............then a 6'x8' sheet gets you excellent yield and max's out the most for the money. Another great efficient size is a 240 long 8'x2'x2' as two 4'x8' sheets does that tank nicely with little waste. A 180 is another great one as 1 6'x8' sheet of 1/2" does the whole tank. So if you think in terms like that you can figure out quite easily what tank you can have using the sheets of material most efficiently to keep prices to a minimum. Anything longer than 10ft. really gets pricey..............I mean real pricey and that' s not from a fabricating point of view but, rather a price point of view............those sheets are a ton of money. discretkarma, I would figure out what length you want first then pick the height either being 24" tall or 30" tall. 36" if your doing a fish only tank perhaps as 36" tall would be hard to deal with for a reef. at 30" tall your looking at 3/4" material with a pretty open top and with 1" you could really open the top up having minimal bracing. hth's Jeff
  7. Stevetheoutlaw Wolfman Stonecold Orientalbluereef These are the next 4 members waitning on tanks. Larry Grienier and Stratos were the last two and there are other tanks obvioulsly being made along with these but, this is the WAMAS list. Material issues could change the order or completion but, this should be pretty close to be accurate.
  8. Larry, glad you like the tank. Any progress on it..............love to see some pics. Jeff
  9. Chip, would love to see clones of that purple anenome. I'd want to be in line for one when you go to chp away. Jeff
  10. Matt, that tank shows well just sitting on the carpet. That was the first time I have built a tank that way (design wise) Very cool design but, it was a challenge to do it. As for the stand well.......................it's steel and it isn't worth to pay me to paint it when all you have to do is put some Rustoleum on it after a little steel wool. Now I just have to get back to making some more tanks...............there are several members waiting for their new tanks. Jeff
  11. I too thought Phillip took the high road in this and on this forum that high road is a lonely place. :( Phillip is as honest as they come and would vouch for him anytime. Flowerseller is correct though...............that if you like online forum drama that is definitely the place to go. It's all in the leadership!
  12. Phillip, sorry you had that experience with the other local fish club forum. The case of how a forum is conducted stems directly from it's leadership of it. Quite frankly I don't understand how that behavoir is accepted. As a Vender Member here I can only tell you from my point of view as such that the interest of sponsoring or even donating to clubs that have that behavoir accepted is a non-existent thought. Other potential Sponsors/ Vendors I can tell you are far less inclined to donate much more than trivial donations that may help support he club. Here you will find that donations for the club from it's supporting vendors and sponsors is in the many thousands annually. I can tell you that I (Pmped Out Aquariums) donate at least a $1000.00 annually and gladly do so. Buy some raffle tickets and see if you can benefit from this. There is a Spring Symposium coming up next month and you should come to that. Here you will find that experiences like the one you experienced with the other local fish club don't happen. This is a great group of friendly folks who really offer to help and do not dig deep to humiliate someone. The Moderators offer a even hand here and you will not feel alienated. You will only find that members here will warm up to you and offer a grand welcome.
  13. Dan, it's pretty awesome to not have to do those by hand anymore huh? Now you can just sit back and bang those things out one after another and never worry about fitment as they will all be the same. Very Cool!!!
  14. where did you get that coupon?
  15. LOL!!! I haven't seen that pic in a while. That was my old Bubble King 500. I was having dinner that night and could not stop looking at it so I just went over and had dinner on it.............it still cracks me up
  16. not as much money in it
  17. nope.............this is not the staple of my business..................just got a hold of a lot of tubes and making use of them.
  18. Needlewheel.............air lph.................don't know but, it will be a lot
  19. This is a new toy I'm playin' with. Runs off a Sequence Reeflo pump w/ a Alita airpump assist. Skimmer is 68" tall 27" diameter tube 20" diameter collection cup will have a 8"diameter 1ft. long final riser Problem I am having is moving it around. tube is 1" thick wall and weighs a ton. This is going on a 2000gallon system. 3 others are in the works and you will see them at Exotic Aquatics shortly. These pics are of the earlier phases of construction. It is just about finished but, have some minor tweaking to do. Anyway...........one big motha
  20. Pimped Out Aquariums will now be offering custom steel stands for aquariums. We have now established a great relationship with a company that does excellent work with steel stands. Powdercoating Truck Bedliner spray (very tough) or a simple rustoleum paint finish are some of the available finishes With space often being at a premium these steel stands offer maximum access beneath our tanks and for a price that is very reasonable.
  21. Thanks Chip..................no I didn't get that one that did the trick for anyone else that is having trouble just unplug or reset your router and that should take care of the problem.
  22. Anyone having trouble getting on that board?
  23. The bubbles are brought into the water column via the impact. Putting the valve inline thusly slowing the amount of water impacting into that water column. IMO a tee where air can vent doesnt do anything because your still going to get the bubble from the same volume of water impacting from above going into the frag tank. Slowing water flow into it really takes care of the problem. Jeff
