  1. My tds never ever got below 2 - even with brand new pre-filtes and membrane. After 6 months the tds is 3-4. Do I have a bad tds meter? -- Rob
  2. He's still in a 20G Q-tank. I really don't think that he's eating. He may look good (and Yanek can attest to how bad he looked) but he's sluggish, uninterested in anything, and just keeps treading water. I think the fish is too weak to be put in a community tank with aggressive eaters. Although, people on ReefCentral are suggesting I try that - maybe I should, since he's not doing that good (IMHO) in the Q-tank. -- Rob
  3. Hmm, can you believe that the Purple Tang is still alive, even though he hasn't eaten anything in 4 weeks since the rescue!!! I mean, how long can a fish live on just water? Seriously, I'm really frustrated with the progress that he's making (or lack of)... -- Rob
  4. So you're saying you can do this underwater? I'd be interested in seeing the results. -- Rob
  5. AcOH (ha, beat ya for the shortest length response record on WAMAS!)
  6. Are you serious???? Thanks for the lead!
  7. I'm trying to find black silicone aquarium sealant. Does anyone know where I can find it locally? Thanks... -- Rob
  8. Howard, Give me a call when you get back. Pam is now sporting a monster 15" T. Derosa clam!!! Pics coming... -- Rob
  9. Better whip out that STARAZIN!!! -- Rob
  10. Well the bad news is the Coral Beauty angel never reappeared. Gone! Dead. Not even a fish-bone left. The worse news is that now my Spotted Mandarin is also dead. Found him sitting on the bottom breathing heavily 2 days ago - which is unusual for this fish. Normally they're always scooting around and hunting. I moved him to my copepod-infested fuge where again he just sat there breathing. Last night, I found him dead. I've had him for about a year so not sure if he starved to death (although he didn't appear thin) He did have some redness around his mouth and some cotton-like thingy on his lips. Not sure what it was. Ich? I thought Mandarins were resistant to Ich... Also, none of my other fish have any ich symptoms. Hmm... -- Rob
  11. Yanek, Are you by any chance using the boxed IO that was part of the BRK's group purchase? Pam has also been having problems with this batch. We have sent a sample back to IO for analysis. (still waiting) -- Rob
  12. I'm coming with Pam... -- Rob
  13. Is that a single drain bulkhead? You may need more drain! -- Rob
  14. Sounds like New Tank Syndrome. All you need is patience. Are you using RO/DI water? -- Rob
  15. IMHO, you will burn up a Mag24 in no time. These pumps are not meant to be used 'dry'... -- Rob
  16. Hey Erik, Good to see you back again! Centropyge is one of the 9 genera under the umbrella of the family Pomacanthidae. But I agree, I also didn't think these two would be incompatible - hence why I gave it a shot. I always try to research as much as possible before introducing new life forms into my tank - despite all the surprises that always seem to come up. I think that's what makes it a great hobby! -- Rob
  17. This is still a big mystery to me. For the past 2 days I cannot find my Coral Beauty Dwarf Angel! I've had this fish for over a year, and it's been healthy and doing really well. It was about 3" - beautiful deep blue and orange colors. Once in a while it got chased by my Kole Tang, but other than that it's been a pretty neutral tank. Until... but let me get to that later. My tankmates at present: 2 - Percula Clownfish (maybe Ocellaris - who can really tall them apart?) 1 - 2" Hippo Tang 1 - 2.5" Kole Tang 1 - 1.5" Royal Gramma 1 - 3.5" Watchman Goby 1 - 1.5" Spotted Mandarin -- R.I.P. 8/16/06 1 - 3" Coral Beauty (??) 1 - Coral banded shrimp 1 - Pistol shrimp the usual hermits and snails A week ago I've introduced a Pistol Shrimp. Ever since the tank has been a mess. Sand storm, new sandbed tunnels, caves, etc. I've been noticing that the Coral Beauty has been hiding more than usual. But it would always come out during feeding, and I clearly remember seeing it couple days ago. With all the sand polution going on, I've been paying attention to the Pistol Shrimp and not my other fish, so I don't exactly remember the last time I seen it - possibly Saturday - when Carla (Valeria) stopped by to get some frags. Then Sunday night, after the lights went out, I've introduced a new fish. A 4" Majestic (Blue Girdled) Angel that I rescued couple of weeks ago. I know I know... shouldn't mix Pomacanthidaes together, especially in a 60 gal reef, but since Coral Beauty is an dwarf angel and majestic is a true angel (and much bigger), I figured the Majestic won't mess too much with the Coral Beauty. Was I that wrong? The next day (Monday) I get home from work and Coral Beauty is nowhere to be seen. Majestic Angel is acting still a bit shy, cautiously coming out from one of the caves while feeding, and swiftly going back in. Not acting agressive at all. Other fish are acting normal, not really concerned that there is a new guy in the reef. So what could have happened? Could the Majestic have killed the Dwarf Angel within 4-5 hrs of lights coming on and my arrival from work? Why can't I find the remains? I've searched every crevice with a flashlight, to no avail. How long does it take for a 3" fat angelfish to fully decompose in the reef tank? (haven't noticed any increased skimmate production. I just can't believe a Majestic is the guilty one (although he makes for a pretty good scape-goat) Any ideas? -- Rob PS. There is no way a fish could have jumped. The tank is sealed with glass covers.

  25. I used to have a small picasso trigger a while back, and he never bothered other fish. But he did bother small inverts, especially my hermit crabs. I actually though he ate all of them since I never saw any of the 100+ hermits around anymore. After I got rid of him (if I remember Mike 'clownfish' took him), all the hermits started coming out of the woodwork... Unbelievable! -- Rob
