  1. Naso Tang... Actually looks like Blonde Naso Tang...
  2. 7 tangs? how big a tank? -- Rob
  3. That totally sucks!!!
  4. Can't believe you got all these Tangs in a 210 gal tank!!! Looks great. -- Rob
  5. Wow, great thread - can't believe I missed it. What's the status of your Imperator? Is he nipping anything? I'm planning to put my juv into the 260 gal community. Little nervous... -- Rob
  6. Always welcome... -- Rob
  7. Has anyone had luck keeping an Emperor (Imperator) Angel in a reef? We're considering adding this fish (still juv colors) to the 7' long 260 gal display tank. The current inhabitants are: 2 Blue-throat Triggers (pair) 1 Naso Tang 1 Yellow Tang 1 Blue Hippo Tang 1 Kole Tang 1 Coral Beauty 2 Firefish 2 Purple Firefish 1 Mandarin 2 Tomato Clowns (pair) [moving them to a breeder tank soon] Any comments? All fish seem to be behaving nicely (except for the tomato clowns - hence the plan to move them) -- Rob
  8. Well, there is a watchman goby in there... somewhere. Haven't seen him in couple of weeks though. He usually comes out when I feed live brine shrimp (weird). It's actually the same goby that he used to be paired with a year ago. The story is, one guy here on Wamas (name escapes me) a while back was breaking down a tank and had 2 gobies with pistol shrimp up for sale. I grabbed the goby, fishface got the pistol shrimp with the other goby. Well, as some of you know fishface just moved to India - I got his pistol shrimp, and hopefull he'll reunite with my goby. Dhoch, not sure if this is your original pistol shrimp. If he is, do you want him back? What's his name? -- Rob
  9. So I got this pistol shrimp, that allegedly forms a symbiotic realationship with a watchman goby. Little did I know that this crazy shrimp was going to re-aquascape my entire sandbed. I have a 3" mix of southdown and carib-sea in the 60 gal reef. As soon as introduced into the tank, he went straight to work. He dug out at least 3 different holes under LR (good thing I put PVC pipes for foundation) and made piles and piles of sand all over the tank. There is a sand-storm going on, and all my rocks/corals are covered in a sand. It's been a week. Is he ever gonna chill out? -- Rob
  10. I think what you need is a glass/plexi panel with some sort of a frame that you can place on the surface of the water. It's probably easy to make one that will fit your camera. As far as diving masks, I got my at a Scuba shop at the Pan Am plaza shopping center in Vienna, VA. If you ever decide you want to use the mask for what it was specifically designed for (diving, snorkling) you have to buy one that fits your face. -- Rob
  11. Breeding inverts (cleaner shrimp and fire shrimp) and breeding fish (tomato clowns) in the 260 gal reef. -- Rob
  12. Chris, we keep a cheap corner sponge filter you can buy at PetCo running in a sump. Most household sponges you buy at the supermarket come laced with detergents. Good idea about the chaeto, Bob... I'll have to try it. -- Rob
  13. The concept is to slow down the flow through the fuge, so that the pods can reproduce and grow in numbers. The pump will stun and kill most of them, but I think a lot of them do in fact survive. (they may be disoriented for a while -- ) UV will zap the living daylights out of most of them - depending on your flow rate and how often you clean the UV lamp sleeve. -- Rob
  14. I'd be very surprised if the mandarin would accept pellet food. Most of them won't even eat live brine shrimp. (mine is trained to accept live brine - and that all he will eat - other than what he hunts himself) Pam's mandarin will not take live brine shrimp even if it hits him in the face. Go figure. Carla, if you feel like experimenting, try spot feeding live brine shrimp to your mandarin. Keep in mind that brine shrimp does not excactly provide full nutrition unless it's selcon enriched... You need to get your fuge going ASAP. -- Rob
  15. Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for... (need more sand!) -- Rob
  16. I'm looking for a formula for calculating the amount of sand required (lbs) in order to reach a certain depth - based on the tank dimmensions. I'm looking to put 3" of Carib-Sea/Southdown mix in the 260G reef. The inside tank dimensions are 83"x 22.25" Thanks. -- Rob
  17. What are you water params? Any other SPS's affected? -- Rob
  18. What are you feeding your triggers? It may be a good idea to feed them first, then add gobies. -- Rob
  19. Maybe they're doing the 'interior' detail? -- Rob
  20. Thanks!!! I'm gonna start one going too. -- Rob
  21. I just captured some tomato clownfish larvae that just hatched. Anyone got a a culture going? Thanks! -- Rob
  22. Excellent... for future reference, floating a ziplock bag full of ice cubes also helps. -- Rob
  23. I've seen the LR at BRK - highly recommended. -- Rob
  24. Will definitely be there! Please save me a frag of Blue Tort acro - if it's fraggable... -- Rob
  25. Rebecca, It sounds like your BT has Lymphocystis. Our BT, while in Q-tank, started showing the same exact symptoms. I wouldn't put the fish back in quarantine. What I've read, it's not contagious, and it's the environmental stress what's causing this infection. Just add garlic/vitamins to your food and let it heal by itself. -- Rob
