  1. Cool. It's been a while since I've checked out that Petco off of Minneville.
  2. Is their grade posted somewhere in the store where we would be able to see it? Now I'm curious
  3. Listed as grade A? What does that mean and according to who?
  4. Curious to know if the metal halid bulbs we're using are considered with either type R or T or neither? Check the article out below. ------------------------ Harmful Light Bulbs Still In Use Updated: Tuesday, 14 Jul 2009, 9:53 AM EDT Published : Tuesday, 14 Jul 2009, 9:45 AM EDT By myfoxdc UNDATED - The Sadler family remembers the night they came home after attending an open house at Palm Harbor University High School. "And I walked into my house and it looked foggy to me and I said to my husband I thought that there was like smoke in the house." said Shari Sadler. Her eyes were burning and so were her son's. She continued, "The fire department came out, they looked around, they didn't see any smoke. They didn't see any gas so we didn't what that was. We wound up just going to sleep." Then at four in the morning, Barry Sadler, a medical doctor, woke up and knew something was wrong. "It was really like someone took a needle and put it in my eyes and it was incredibly painful." Dr. Sadler said. The next morning, the Sadlers learned they weren't the only ones suffering. Ronna Sharp, their neighbor, was also at the school that night. "I woke up at four in the morning. I know I looked at the clock; my eyes were in excruciating pain. I couldn't tell if my eyes were more comfortable open or closed. It hurt both ways." Sharp said. Word spread that more than a dozen people attending the open house were now experiencing the same painful symptoms. The school district traced the problem back to a light in the school gym, just above the bleachers. The light, called a metal halide bulb, was first used in the 70's and still in use today. They're perfectly safe unless the outer glass cracks or breaks. An ordinary household bulb would go out. The tube inside a 'Type R" bulb keeps burning, releasing dangerous ultraviolet radiation. "We saw smoke, but the reason we saw smoke was because our corneas were burned.' Dr. Sadler said. The same type of thing has happened in school gyms all over the country and sometimes the damage is far more severe. It's basically the equivalent of lying in a tanning bed with our eyes wide open and no way to know it. That's how elementary school teachers in Oregon describe what happened to them. They're still recovering from eye injuries suffered back in 2004. Kellie Lafallet believes her eyes are permanently damaged after spending the entire day in gym. "It's more and more painful and seems to get getting progressively worse over time." Lafallet says. She and her husband have made it their mission to get the word out and warn others. They persuaded Oregon's governor to sign a law removing type r halide lights from the state's public schools. Dr. Schaffner, from Vanderbilt University, is one of the few experts who personally researched the bulbs. "I think virtually no one really knows about this. I'm not surprised at all that this happened in Florida. I suspect we could go around the United States because every state has gyms and they all use the bulbs." Dr. Schaffner said. The bulb manufactures have warnings on the outside of the packaging but Dr. Schaffner says that's not enough. There's a solution, however: the 'Type T' bulb. It costs more, but, as Dr. Schaffner says, "If there's a crack in the outer shell, the light goes off." The FDA says these "Type T" self-extinguishing bulbs reduce the risks inside gyms. They put that message on their web site a couple years ago but apparently some schools are still in the dark. "We were lucky that the exposure was only for an hour." Sharp stated. Lucky their eyes are now back to normal. The Pinellas County School District quickly replaced all the 'Type R' bulbs with "Type T" bulbs which automatically shut off. "You'd hate for a 16 or 17 year old kid to have eye pain for the rest of their lives of something that may not go away. You know they may not be as luck as us." Dr. Sadler said
  5. wow... glad it all worked out
  6. Yea, I was gonna say that 4 ph's in your 2.5 would be too much. lol A drawback with using this wavemaker is that it limits your ph options to basically using a maxijet.
  7. It's not a requirement, but I like to randomize the flow. Is this for your 2.5g tank?
  8. Here's what it looks like on the inside. There seems to be many resistors. Can anyone explain how to test if the resistors are working using a multimeter?
  9. Any idea how or why the tank broke?
  10. I still think its better than the needlewheel that comes with the pump. I tried switching back to the needlewheel to see the difference and it was night and day. The enkamat would last for a while as long as you trim it so that the edges aren't rubbing inside the pump. That was my mistake... I had mine slightly touching the wall and although it would perform great, it would only last about 1-2 months before starting to tear apart.
  11. I think the pumps are actually different sizes... so you can't just switch impellers.
  12. http://www.bigalsonline.com/StoreCatalog/c...=12&offset= about the same as above after shipping
  13. I got a 75g membrane from that same group buy that i just installed a week ago (along with the prefilters). My TDS is at 8 without the DI. I cant recall the tap TDS reading right now... but I'll try flushing the membrane to see what happens.
  14. haha... yup, i agree! I didnt notice any corrosion inside, but I can take another look. Nothing was obvious... The lights on the front of the unit light up, but the powerheads don't turn on. I tested the powerheads individually so I know they're working. I've only messed with 12v in cars... too scared to mess with household electricity
  15. Two of the four ports on my Red Sea Wavemaster Pro wavemaker stopped working. I know other's have had this problem, but I can't find any threads on how to repair these wavemakers. Does anyone know how to fix these or have a link to the repair guide? I opened up the unit and everything looks fine... nothing melted or burnt inside. Thanks!
  16. It should be fine for a few days. Is your equipment in the sump? For a submersible pump, I've had good experience with Mags. If you have more $ to spend, I'd get an Eheim.
  17. Mine did that before... the magnet on the impeller is probably swollen or deformed. Check it carefully. I think you can order a new non-needle wheel impeller for about $20ish shipped and resuse your current needlewheel or do the meshmod.
  18. I read what you wrote wrong... thought you said it was $15, not that you saved $15. I dont think there's anything special about the ER needlewheel. I'd still do the mesh mod either way...
  19. The ones for $15 are probably not the needlewheel impellers, just the standard. But if you plan on doing the mesh mod, then it'd be better to buy the standard impeller as opposed to cutting the needlewheel.
  20. IME, mine have flipped upside down in the sand and the flesh turned completely white... it recovered in about a one month. Not sure if they'd recover if the flesh was gone.
  21. Yea, or just gradually scoop some out with a cup over the course of some time...
  22. Not sure if I'm visualizing this correctly... It sounds like you have a piece of grate positioned horizontally over the overflow. Maybe you could put a piece vertically to block the fish from getting up there???
