  1. Small tanks with SPS are probably the hardest tanks to care for long term IMO due to the fluctuations that you are currently seeing. If you can manage that small cramped SPS tank you can manage most other tanks except maybe giant ones which require so much labor…..you’ve had success for so long now I recommend you trust your instincts and be careful not to chase numbers too quickly Darren
  2. Alkalinity consumption will track pH so if you get a bump in pH from not being home you could see some decent drop in alkalinity. I have seen this when I go on vacation. Remember pH is a log scale so going from 8.1 to 7.8 is basically twice the acidity.
  3. You’re welcome, happy reefing! Darren
  4. I get it on Amazon for cheap….I add a few tbs to some tap water and run the pumps in them overnight. By the next morning I brush them down with an old toothbrush and they are good to go…. Just FYI, some say vinegar can cause damage to magnets over time, though I have never seen it happen when I used vinegar. That said it worried me enough to switch to citric acid. Darren
  5. If you decide to use a different cleaner I recommend citric acid as it is cheap, easy to acquire and smells good ? I switched from vinegar to citric and couldn’t be happier…… Darren
  6. Sad to hear, moving a tank is tough Darren
  7. Sorry things are not going well. The fish are probably dying due to the ammonia spike so deal with that first. Buy some ammonia block at the local pet store. A pH of 7 doesn’t make sense for a saltwater aquarium so that has me puzzled. I would do a 20% water change daily until things settle down. It will be a lot of work, but it’s your best bet to get things back to normal. Darren
  8. Looking good! I need to get a real camera Darren
  9. I was lucky enough to see this guy in person and it was a sight to behold….sad to see it go….. Darren https://reefbuilders.com/2022/06/23/waikikis-iconic-giant-clam-went-to-reef-tank-in-the-sky/
  10. Tang should go in last as they tend to be the most aggressive. Pretty much every tang I have owned has been a jerk (though I never had a lavender tang) Darren
  11. I’m hoping to talk my son into going with me…..will you be there both days? Darren
  12. Supreme reefs and capital aquarium are two of my favorites…… Darren
  13. I too miss the in person meetings….though I know they are a lot of work….hopefully some day….I still have people stop by here and there for frags….I think once I get my new build going I will try to have a tank tour at my house. I always learned a lot by seeing other people’s tanks…. Darren
  14. Tank is looking good, Do you plan on scraping the tank bottom to keep it clean or just let coralline algae cover the white bottom? I’ve always enjoyed your softy/ gorgonian tanks….. Darren
  15. How about supreme reefs? Ben is really skilled at making a nice aquarium….check out his store Darren
  16. I use an ATI T5 fixture with reef brite LEDs hanging from the ceiling and it looks very clean aesthetically. Darren
  17. Looking good. I have some wrasse dens if you want to keep your wrasse but get most of the sand out of your tank. Darren
  18. Your setup looks stellar, excited to see how the system works over time Darren
  19. Thanks wamas all for the insights / tips. I’m going to set my dehumidifier to 45% and see how it goes….. Darren
  20. I’m wondering what humidity levels people are keeping in their fish room. My tank is in my living room, but my sump is in my basement (all closed up). I recently purchased a de-humidifier and was wondering what other people target. I was thinking somewhere between 40-50% in my basement but was hoping to get others thoughts on the matter. thanks Darren
  21. Sorry to hear, it happens to the best of us….hang in there Darren
  22. Love it! Let me know if you decide to sell it ? Darren
