  1. Here’s a MD video about other products that may fit. Not sure if it has the exact skimmer you’re considering, but thought it might be useful. https://youtu.be/xH5QJ5mSmAE Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. So if you’re going the reactor route I would think cheato would be you’re best bet since I’ve seen a lot of recommendations of going that route with cheato. I’ve got cheato in my fuge area and I’ve noticed that it seems to die off from the bottom. For that reason, I’m looking to replace the cheato with caluerpa in my fuge which was why I +1’d your thread. I’ve seen plenty of cheato offers but not much on caluerpa. 3. +1 not digging the cheato all that much. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I have the same one and like it a lot. I do however pull it out of the tank after using it. My thinking is two fold, one I don’t like the idea of keeping a metal blade in my tank though I don’t have any concrete evidence one way or another. And two, I hate it when scrapers grow more corraline than rocks! Sort of kidding I the corraline but I just don’t want all kinds of growth on my scrapers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I know that the ball valves at the Bethesda Home Depot are on the other side of the fittings in the next aisle with all the other types of valves. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I enjoyed this a ton. Reminds me of the days of walking/snorkeling right off A1A in the Keys Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I have a 36 inch aquatic life with a kessil 360 and two gen3 xr15’s over a deep blue 80 frag. I’m around Friday during the day in Bethesda. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I sat and watched a male Lyretail Anthias for over an hour at an LFS in Rockville. It looked good, swam good, ate good - and sprouted ich within 24 hrs of being at home. He lived a good while but suffered for quite a while at first. He fought ich on and off for 2 months until I added a UV Sterilizer. Point being you can watch something for a ton of time and all can look good but you will never know. One last point - it was the first fish added to the tank.
  9. Thanks for all the feedback! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. So all the acros died because my alkalinity chart looked like a sin graph with all the fluctuations while trying to move systems. Pests or chems were not an issue. The only other stuff on the plugs were some short GHA. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Having just lost about 90% of my acros, I have a boat load of dead coral on plugs. My plan was to saw off the coral and was thinking about tossing it in the ca reactor. I’ll also have a ton of frag plugs so the question is, should I treat these with bleach or just let them dry thoroughly before reusing them? Also should I plan on some sort of treatment for the coral too? Thanks in advance for any insight.
  13. I use the kitchen sink sprayer with full hot water at max pressure. Flip em inside out a couple of times. Takes about 5 minutes. Kind of a mess but I works pretty well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Yep you’re right those are really nice and they do have pics of the drill bit. Wish I had seen these. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I’m actually doing an 80 frag build right now and went with the eshopps eclipse M (800gph). I liked the eshopps because it’s a herbie style, it came with the drill bit and generally looks well built. It’s acrylic through and through. I also dropped the outer box twice from about 3.5 feet onto basement concrete and it held up fine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. You could try a shop vac with a narrow nozzle But you’ll still need the fan. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I’ve used these guys for sched 80 fittings and some true union valves that weren’t as nice as cepex from brs. I also buy my gate valves from brs. https://www.pvcfittingsonline.com Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Wondering if anyone here has used the above product to help loosen algae from a tank with a good amount of SPS. Thanks in advance for your feedback!
  19. I've also got a Deep Blue 34 frag tank that is just waiting to get plumbed into the system and lit. Part of the reason for thinking about the CA Reactor route.
  20. My alk is tested daily around 6pm and is usually holding steady in the upper 9dkh range. I'm dosing 45ml of ESV into a 57. I'm in the process of putting together a CaReactor just need to buy the regulator but I'm mildly concerned that my pH might plummet when I go that route. I do have a fuge full of cheato and red macro algae that I light at night with a eshops curve fuge light. While it's growing chaeto - I think I could stand to have a more powerful light. I'm also about to build a new sump that will have about 14 gallons of fuge space. Probably going to put my old coralife 96w power compact on it since it's just laying dormant. Your comment about when corals lay down their structure is really interesting - thanks for that tidbit.
  21. For a while I was dosing Alk (ESV) at night to keep the pH swing a little more in check, usually about 8.0 to 8.1. I switched back to dosing throughout the day to maintain a constant alk throughout the day. The result of a continual dose over 24 hrs is a pH swing of 7.9 to 8.1. I'm curious what others are doing out there. Is anyone dosing Alk primarily at night to mitigate pH swing? Any thoughts on this? That said my SPS seem to be doing pretty well on the 24 hour dosing cycle. I'm not getting explosive growth but noticeable gains. Thanks for any input.
  22. Added note - I refreshed and upped my GFO yesterday. Tank is pretty heavily populated 3 anthias, Kole tang, 3 small ocellaris, purple fire fish, chalk bass, melanarus wrasse, cleaner shrimp and sand sifting star. Some astrea and trochus as well. Mostly SPS - acro, milli, monti cap & digitata, purple and green poccilopora, couple of favias, frogspawns and an aussie wall hammer. Still have some xenia and gsp - grr. 23. Hi folks - I've got some kind of brownish filamentous algae that I can't seem to get rid of. It has always been visible as peach fuzz on the rocks (never seen it on the sand) but doesn't really take off unless I miss out on a few water changes. I usually do 25% every week of a 60g total volume. I just got back from vacation and it sprung up while I was gone. Thinking about going dark for a few days, followed by a couple 50% water changes. Would appreciate any feedback on id and thought of going dark for a few days. I've also got a Triton and ATI ICP test going out. Pics attached. Thanks!
  24. I bought my tanks from there. Shipping wasn't free but it was WAY better than any other site. Got here pretty quick too.
