  1. I’ve been working on a build for a while now and filled it yesterday for the first time with RO water. The strange thing was that in no time the sump started building up a foam you can see in the picture. I haven’t even added salt yet. I can only think of two things: Rocks were all glued dry with epoxy and cyanoacrylate (I know that the epoxy can make skimmers go nuts) I bleach cured the rock and after two subsequent soaks after bleach treatment wasn’t enough (I did use plain bleach) Has anyone ever seen anything like this? 2. Thanks for the feedback. I'll have to be creative on how to clean a 55g tank with a 1:1 vinegar solution but I have some ideas. I'll post pics when I'm done.
  3. Hi Wamas, I just recently purchased a used SW mixing station and wanted to clean out the brown deposits on the SW storage tank. I broke out my 1800 psi pressure washer and that knocked a lot of it out but there’s still a good amount left over. Does anybody have a good recipe for bringing these storage tanks back to almost new wrt removing practically all of the brown deposits? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. @tom39 Thanks! You answered the question perfectly. And your plumbing choices really gave me some great ideas! @menglish Thanks for your input as well! Good things always happen on WAMAS!
  5. Greetings Wamas! I recently purchased a Planet Aquariums 48x24x21 Crystaline rimless tank and stand. I opted for their Tideline overflow (basically a ghost/external overflow) which has a bean animal configuration. So far, I love the tank size ~100g. I did also opt to buy Trigger Systems new Premium Sump line that has a build in rollermat because after 3 years of filter socks, I'm done. The conundrum I have is that I would normally glue in a street/mpt going to a union nippled to a gate valve for my main drain line. I've always been comfortable just slipping the emergency line directly into the second bulkhead without glue. In this new sump there are 3 drain bulkheads on the sump, 2 VERY close together that feed the roller mat chamber with about 8 inch drop pipes to get below the water level of the sump and then a bulkhead for the TRUE emergency overflow into the skimmer section. I've always looked to have a sealed line from the primary drain in the overflow to below the sump water level to ensure a perfect siphon. But with the two main drain lines being so close together, there's no space for a union and I hate the idea of glueing a pipe straight into the sump. So that was a long entry but my question is this: has anybody taken the main drain line (full siphon line) and had the bottom side of the gate valve have a pipe that was just fitted into the sumps bulkhead without glueing? I'm thinking this could cause bubbles in the full siphon line and make a lot of noise but then again maybe not. Any and all feedback is appreciated. Thanks, Ernie
  6. I just reread my BB post and noticed that when I said “Note...” I missed the very important word “NOT”. So my message is UV did NOT “Cure” my ich issue but resolved it to my satisfaction- no more sick fish. Sorry for the late correction. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I had ich in a tank a couple of years ago. It came in on a Lyretail Anthias. I freaked out for a bit but added a 25 watt UV Sterilizer on a 57gal tank. The itch went through a few cycles but had less impact (fewer spots) each time. I think it was two or three cycles. In the end it never reared up again for the rest of the tanks life, about 18 more months. Years ago I did the fallow method for about 3 months and that worked but IMO, good UV and good water quality appeared to keep it at bay. Note I’m saying it cured it, it just never showed up again. For me, if UV didn’t work I would have torn down the tank and started over. But in my case I was happy with the UV - no sick/dead fish. That said, if you’re going to try UV, do it quick. You’ll want to get the little buggers after they incubate and become free swimming theronts looking to attack your fish. Each cycle will get worse and worse as the ich population grows. Good Luck!
  8. I’ve stuck with ESV. I used it back in 2007-2009 and then went right back to it when I jumped back in 2016. I’ve had great results with it and the reef calculator has made it a no brainer. I tried All For Reef in smaller tank and it worked well, but that stuff is PRICEY. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I actually still have a 402 that I use...It's about 25 years old. I use it to pump water from my mixing can to the tank. While they don't have a high flow rating the narrow nozzle has a good kick at the muzzle. I'm pretty sure these came out in response to folks getting sick of driving their under gravel filters with air stones!
  10. Holy smokes that’s way out of my league! I’m with epleeds here, I’d probably go with acrylic. At 12x4 that would be a really thick piece of glass to keep it from bowing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I agree with epleeds here. For a long rimless use 3/4”. I got a quote fro ReefSavvy a couple of years ago and for a 4’ rimless they were fine with 1/2”. Once I asked for 5’ they said they’d do it in 3/4”. That calculator has a field for safety factor and that also drives the thickness. It’s pretty straight forward, the lower the safety factor, the more you risk a flood. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. It’s healthy and have had this stuff for a few months. I’m really just curious if anyone has ever seen anything like this and if there’s any harm scraping it off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Pictured below is one of my frogs pawns that has a weird slime below the base of the stalks that goes all the way down to the plug. Anyone have a clue on what this is? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. No need to dig. Thanks for the info! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Awesome looking piece! I’m Curious about the kessil’s intensity you’re running and the depth of the tank. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Hi Bruce - Just out of curiosity, how did you get rid of all of those shrooms? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. If we’re talking about maxi-mini nems, I don’t agree with them being NPS. I had a maxi-mini that I got at 4” and grew it to 6” with sparse feeding. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I watched a snowflake eat a sebae clown in my first tank when I was a teenager. It was probably my fault, since I was a little late feeding. So the lesson was yes they’ll eat fish in your tank, especially if you’re lax on feeding. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I am so bummed I missed this. Would have been a great way to spend the day.
  22. I was using a 120 on a 57 and it did great. The only drawback is that it didn’t have a drain on the collection cup. That said it forced me to keep it clean. I was also running a 160 on an 80 frag tank and think that it over-skimmed the tank and my acros were pale. I did however have a ton of cheato as well which may have contributed to the problem. 23. Yep I’ve been thinking about those concerns too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. FWIW I replace the IM skimmer with the Tunze 9004 and it is quieter and produces better skimmate than the IM skimmer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
