  1. The yellow tail blue damsels are my fav! Hardy. Cheap. Wait maybe I shouldn't call fish cheap. It de values their lives. Intense blue. Lots of swimming. Less aggressive than most damsels. Keep a close eye on that 6 line. Mine got pesky and killed only the new additions.
  2. You will get good growth and color with anything you throw at them. Just go with the color combo you are most happy with. I have some used up ones if anyone wants to play around with the color. I think they are 60" fixture
  3. Happy holidays!
  4. Mr.melanurus says heya! I have two. And two large sand containers hidden under the rock Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I couldn't grow SPS until I started chasing numbers. Especially the ALK number. Keep ALK a stable flat line on a graph and things will grow. IMO don't get too caught up in the nutrients and par etc because without steady alk and numbers you have absolutely nothing. Work out those details after stabilizing numbers. A lot of stuff can cause swings: too large of water change, not topping off the tank often enough, not dripping in alk etc etc etc it takes a lot of attention to detail but it's a fun challenge. Just pick wamas hardy pieces. Slimers, torts, staghorns are some fine selections to get confidence up. After stabilizing tank watch their colors that will help you to fine tune the details. After mastering the easier SPS buy the milli, tenuis, etchinata. 6dkh is too low.
  6. The alkalinity is mixed in a 5g bucket. Then the BRS drip doser is placed on a timer. I slowly (over days) clicked down the 30 min timer buttons until desired alk was maintained. It's rare to make an adjustment now. If I do have to unclick or add a button it's from adjusting light intensity. Calcium is mixed in my ATO. It can slowly fluctuate due to evaporation levels. So I have to keep a closer testing eye on it. No doubt drip doser would be a better option but I'm out of room. 'Mag is replaced with water change and adjusted in ATO if necessary
  7. A week before natural split. After. I didn't even know they could split three ways. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. +1 Put it where ever you want it's tough. I have frags break off and go under a mostly shaded rock and they still flourish

  13. I have 2 mag pumps for return. I forget what size but they do 500gph. I wanted two so if one fails I still have one working. Reef octopus NWB 250 skimmer. I don't use a sock filter. Lights 8 bulb 60" ATI T5 sun power, one reef bright and 4 ocean revive. The ATI T5 runs for 4 hours and LEDs 4 hours. I realize all the lights together are overkill but I have my reasons. The sump is a Rubbermaid 150g stock tank only filled up 12" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. So if it's getting a green tint base with blue tips I would guess it's a Cali Tort.
  15. Looks like a Tadpole! I want one!

  19. Haha @ derABT! Im sure you will be getting a cardiac apex Ph probe to monitor for respiratory acidosis and a medication dosing pump. Let me know when you need help with the tanks. prayers for you!
  20. Couple gallons a day is a lot less than my 300gallonish system. But yours is covered system that must help! The dry winter air also will make my evap faster
  21. They are pigs. The problem is people with under 200g tanks tanks see our wonderful posts and order one. These fish need a lot of room. Mexican turbo snails are a good alternative for smaller tank Here is mine snacking on some bubble algae
  22. Don't fight it too hard Alan. As you know stuff like this comes and goes during the first year of a tank being cycled. Just harvest what you can and let it run it's course. If you look at my build thread you will see I went through a lot of different algae problems I thought it would never end. Now that the tank is settled In I can't find algae anywhere but the overflows
  23. All zoa and paly have the toxin. Some just more concentrated than others. Some say the uglier the paly the more potent the toxin. Dying paly in mass quantities is when I see most people post up with problems. Always wear glove and eye protection when handling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I can never tell what is abandoning my frags during the dip
  25. Hammer rarely dies from lack of light I keep mine in the corners and save the high light for the SPS. But often lightens in too much light. It sounds like you pinpointed the problem
