I on the other hand believe most LFS are infected with pests. It's true that 100s of different people put corals in their tanks every year. And suppliers have a crazy amount of corals hoarded. And it is too labor intensive for LFS to dip. Aiptasia is a bummer but if I saw I frag I like I would chop it off the plug, use a tooth brush if there is a skeleton and go with it.
Oh no! I don't know much about sea horsies :( I do keep brine shrimp 24/7 now. Is the phyto for them? I just sprinkle in a little reef roids and selcon. I have even kept them in an un cycled bucket. I of course use a lot less food but somehow they live through it. Just keep adding water to it to dilute the nasties or put a piece of LR in there! Good luck lyndzers
the balance thing doesn't seem to matter in my tank as long as Alk is Same number every time. I like to keep calcium above 400. Those are my only two rules as far as balance. I'm sure balance helps. But I had similar problems chasing multiple numbers.
Since we are on the chaeto debate I'll throw in my two cents. I grew it like crazy when tank was newer and I had nutrients. Upgraded skimmer and tank got older. Now it just melts away starved out IMO. Did research. Tried more flow. Tried 3 different lights. No grow. So I had to switch to Devils breath macro or something like that. Pods grew great in the chaeto but it's a lot of trouble to get them out. IMO They don't live when they get pumped through your pumps. A fuge is a lot of fun and slightly beneficial but not a must IMO
one MP40 would probably do the trick. You could get fancy and do two but will need dialed down pretty good. They communicate or connect so if you are into SPS it would be nice to get different flow directions. They are pricy and expect one item per year to crap out if you have two. Usually it's a wet side, but I once had a controller go and another time a power cord. But with the jebao I havnt had much luck with them lasting. The nice thing is they are disposable at the price.
If it's not micro bubbles it's just leftover "stuff" coral waste, bio degraded matter, poop, dust etc. etc. filter floss will get it. If you don't run that like me then it eventually settles in dead spots for you to siphon out.
Follow your dreams and get the MH. If not you will be sitting around wondering why you can't get your SPS colors to look as good as all the photoshopped SPS pics. Sorry I'm frustrated if you can't tell. My original plan was to do MH but settled for T5 the curiosity of what the corals would look like bothers me sometimes so I say go for it .
You might have had something die in the tank or have some die off from rock work. The only time I saw this was when I lost my old hippo tang. Might not hurt to check ammonia level
