  1. Haha, the "5-mile-down blend"
  2. Very pretty tank! I run LEDs, and see good growth. However, as DER ABT stated above, you do see more shading with LED vs MH. I feel like this is outweighed by the mitigated heat production, but have considered going with an LED/MH combo just to get rid of some of the shadows.
  3. Paul, that FTS is insane! When can I come by to pick up those two we texted about?
  4. Thanks for the great buy ERC!
  5. Great question Laura. I recently replaced mine with an eBay special, and from what I can tell they are exactly the same. My TDS meter still reads zero on the output, so I am happy with the cheap version.
  6. Very nice my friend!
  7. For those who have done this before. Where are Tyson's do we pick up?
  8. What is your flow like? From the pic it looks like you have the PH pointing almost straight up.
  9. Put me down for 2 boxes of RC please. Thanks guys!
  10. Paul, I have read about these before but do not remember them needing vodka. Is the alcohol required? Or will the bacteria do the job without it (perhaps at a lower efficiency)?
  11. Some nice pics here! I looked into those extension tubes and have a question for you Rob. They come in what looks like a set that can be disassembled, does each different length work better for subjects that are at different distances?
  12. Yep. I am on my phone now,but the pics (some of them) from my threads in the FS section right now were done that way.
  13. Interesting growth form! You can cut the tissue with a razor blade, then cut the skeleton with bone cutters (or whatever else you have that works). People use this method when fragging other "meaty" corals. The tissue should heal up just fine provided it doesn't get infected. Full disclosure: I have not tried this method yet, but have seen it on youtube. Good luck
  14. I use a 5$ magnifying glass held right up to the lens. I am happy with that method vs buying a proper camera lens. Not that I claim to have the best pics (I don't adjust for lighting and such as I have not figured all of that out yet).
  15. Very sorry to hear about these losses! It always sucks to lose animals even when they are just pretty sticks. Just trying to play Devil's Advocate here: how old was your sand bed before the move, and how deep? I have had no problems moving sand beds. My most-recent move was my 55g refugium which had a 7 month old bed that was 4 to 10 inches deep (sloping hill). I had to take most sand out to lift the tank, and didn't clean it at all.
  16. Haha, this is my favorite Paul Post™
  17. I love your tank and the rock work! Off to a great start!
  18. Awesome info. I have been unsuccessful with this in the past (all I did was place the "nest" into my refugium once I saw eggs, but they all disappeared after that and I never saw any hatch). Good luck on the next attempt!
  19. Dude, you will have no problem moving a wood cover. If you can't pull off a 3/4" piece of plywood I need to get you into the gym. My wife can move the 3/4" panels I made for my stand build, and they are bigger than what you have here. Build it out of wood and get er done
  20. Alan is spot on. But I would say that Jebao dosers make calibration even more easy. Here is what I did to set mine up (I am still getting to my "target" numbers as this is y second week of running it. 1) initial test to establish baseline (in my case for Ca and dKH) 2) go to BRS and use their online calculator to determine how much of each additive I will need to get to my desired numbers 3) divide whatever difference you have between your target and your baseline by: (number of days you want to use in getting to target X number of times per day you want to dose).. in math terms: (target - baseline)/(days*doses per day)=ml you need to dose each time your pump turns on 4) calibrate pump. the Jebao pump allows you to "dial it in" by using a 100ml cup and a few button pushes (took me 60 seconds to calibrate all 4 pumps) 5) Set dosing schedule 6) retest in a week (or whatever # of days you chose in step 3) once you hit your goal numbers, move on to step 7 7) stop dosing for x days and determine current tank demand in ml (again by using the BRS calculator) and then divide by x days to determine consumption per day 8) reset your pump to only meet your daily consumption I chose to bring my dKH up by one point per week and have seen no ill effects. In fact, my corals are looking MUCH better (color) than when I was dosing by hand. I am sold on the pumps, you just cannot do it by hand unless you are willing to add 4ml every 2 hours for 10 hours (in my case I only dose at night to counteract any drop in PH).
  21. Thank you so much for posting this! You just gave me the needed component list, and idea, to complete my stand doors Isaac, go with the beads mentioned above.... I mean, have you ever seen a stand using beads as a door? Functional and stylish
  22. I hate to say it, but i doubt the loss stemmed from the encounter. Losing the branch? Sure. But the loss should have been localized if it originated from a sting.
  23. Looking good!!
  24. I only run my lights 12 hours a day (9am-9pm)
