DuffyGeos 300g DT & 8 TANK FISH ROOM

Recommended Posts

You might want to consider ditching the Potters angels because they prefer cooler water and have a reputation for not living very long in normal tanks.   If you see Copps again he could give you better advice than that.

I agree with whoever posted above that you might want to consider getting everything in pairs.  Mating and pair behavior are so much more interesting (in my opinion) than single fish.   And one day we might just get you interested in fish breeding!

Your build is first class and it shows that you've been doing this type of work professionally for a long time.  Your attention to details like the utility spaces shows how much thought you've put into this.

This build is so good it makes the first class jobs look second rate.

Thank you for the input on the Potter's, but they are one of my favorites, so I might run the tank a degree or two cooler just to make them happy!

I agree with the pairing, I know I am happier with a partner!   I also love the look of schooling fish.

Thank you for the kind words on my build, it just makes me happy. Now if I can just catch you home without a softball game I can take some pictures of your set up and post them for everyone to see! Thanks.

I am working on coming up with a solution to hanging my lights, and being able to move them out of the way to service the tank. Here is the best option I have come up with. I am going to install these tracks on the ceiling and attach the MH fixtures to them. I plan on running 5 rows that are 5' 6" long, and one row perpendicular to it that is 8' long. I should be able to move each individual light left or right on the single track, and then move the entire row 4' to 5' into the fish room so it is out of the way. Then I can climb up on my "catwalk" to get to all corners of the tank.

Track is aluminum and the trolleys have vinyl wheels.

Anyone come up with a better way?

That solution looks perfectly good to me.  You could hang everything from a hinged bar and swing them all to the side when you work on the tank, but I prefer the solution you've already come up with.

Thanks Dave, I have been thinking about this and looking at different products for a while. I had to find something that would not rust and did not cost an arm and a leg. This will just cost one hand...and maybe a forearm.

Nice meeting you and Walt (of Seahorse fame) today, you have quite the project going on. I know the feeling when you don't want to do something until you figure it all out. I can't wait to see the whole tank (ok, ocean) system complete. You have taken on a massive project and I can't believe the amount of water you will have under roof (and under ground)

Finally getting a moment to get the rock in the bleach water mix tomorrow. Finished up electrical, touched up the patch on the concrete floor with stain, and cleaned the room. Waiting for the roller ball bearings to mount on the bottom of the plywood base below the sump so it can be rolled out for service.

Ken is our hero.

And Isaac has been drinking all day since at least 11a at the DC Beer Festival.

Finally have two trashcans full of rock water and bleach. Let's see how long they need to be soaked.

I don't know if I can really believe that it is your build if I don't see a selfie picture with you in it!

Epleeds, Tricia, Steveoutlaw, Marco, & Adam from Artfully Acrylic have all seen it.  You are welcome anytime.

I know you don't care about fish, but I like fish just as much as the coral. They give it movement and life. So YES FISH!!!!!
