  1. Could you put a "Y" on the return to distribute the flow?
  2. After doing the headless calc with your Mag, what do you think the return GPH is? Could you downsize the return and use a Tunze or a Koralia?
  3. So the flow is too much with just the Mag5? What about a deflector? https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/auqa-gadget-spin-stream-nozzle.html
  4. I definitely agree. I have an "old-school" durso two overflow 180 and I set the 4 holes up as emergency dry overflow, return, wet overflow, siphon. It's very quiet. Most of flow is in tank.
  5. I'm wondering the same thing. You and I both have 180 softies.
  6. I’ve been thinking about these, too, but I’ve read some reviews that they don’t last compared to the Maxspect. Any thoughts on that?
  7. Yup. The two RW8's are just fine for softies. They got upset when I used the larger pump size. The new OW series looks nice. Supposedly more durable and quieter. I could buy two new ones for $160 as opposed to only one Gyre for $290/$340 :(
  8. Happy New Year, everyone! Haven't been around for a while since my 180 was being neglected while life got in the way. I'm slowing bringing it back to life, but have decided to go with really easy softies to keep the time commitment reasonable. I had two Jebao RW-8's which put out 2100 GPH and one died and the other is on the fritz. I was thinking of the Maxspect Gyre. Would the XF230 (up to 2300 GPH) suffice, especially if I got another down the line? All my searching says the XF250 (up to 5300GPH) is the right sized one but I can see that for SPS, but I think it would be way overkill for my purposes. In fact, when I had the old Jebao WP-10's (1100-3400GPH) it was too much and I was running them on only 10-20%. Thanks.
  9. Doh! Just read the ATO excitement. Glad to hear it worked out OK. Where can you get a "trained tank sitter"? Marine Depot?
  10. Looks awesome. Love the tank profile. Will follow with interest!
  11. Thanks! Funny how we can't stay away. I'll have to check out your nano! Softies are in the 180. Red mushrooms have sorta gone berserk. Going to have to reassess, but I think I'll stick with easy stuff. So my crappy Jaebo powerheads have died. Buy once, buy right. Buy cheap, buy twice. I'm thinking of getting a Maxspect Gyre, but not sure I want to spend the coin. I'm going to go read the reviews. Is it worth it?
  12. Hi Wamas! Life has settled down. Tank has been on life support (again). Going to bring it back for the new year. Wish me luck.
  13. Aw, man, Isaac, things are a little crazy 'round these parts. There is a chance I may be moving back to Boston. Not any time real soon, but it puts a little dampener on me investing more in the 180. I'm deciding if I should start putting things up for sale and breaking things down Life happens, eh?
  14. I believe 36x12x12. How awesome is that?
