AlanM February 17, 2014 February 17, 2014 I had been getting weirdly high Ca and Mg readings for a while. I remembered Tom or someone suggesting that vials should get a soak in citric acid and then a good rinse in DI water. So I did that instead of just rinsing with tap and letting them dry. First try at the Red Sea Pro titration tests after that and they fell right back into where I expected them. Also my Alk reading on the hanna checker went from 3.1 meq/l to 2.8 meq/l. Motto is, it is worth it to make sure you have very clean vials.
Orion February 17, 2014 February 17, 2014 I give all mine a vinegar/RO bath once a month as recommended by Dr. Tim on a Mr. Saltwatertank video.
YHSublime February 17, 2014 February 17, 2014 I usually just rinse in ro after every use. Nice tips here!

John Ford February 17, 2014 February 17, 2014 ~side note I held all my ati vials side by side once and noticed how none of the lines were even. Guess that's when I knew to use a syringe for my measurements to get more accurate as well.
overklok February 18, 2014 February 18, 2014 I keep RO water in mine in between uses, they are always clean.
ParrotFish February 18, 2014 February 18, 2014 (edited) I usually just rinse in ro after every use. Nice tips here! +1 I rinse in tap to get all the chemicals out, then give them an RODI water bath/rinse. Make sure to also clean your tops! Edited February 18, 2014 by Squishie89
Tracy G February 19, 2014 February 19, 2014 Anyone use Muric Acid like they recommend? Thinking about it but not sure how safe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
AlanM February 19, 2014 Author February 19, 2014 citric acid was what I had from about 5 kilos I was shipped accidentally on amazon when I ordered 500 grams to descale some espresso machines. So I used citric acid. Muratic will surely work, but you'd have to dilute the carefully dilute the heck out of it.
Origami February 19, 2014 February 19, 2014 Anyone use Muric Acid like they recommend? Thinking about it but not sure how safe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk If you do, I would dilute it at least 1:100. Sent from my LG-V510 using Tapatalk

Origami February 19, 2014 February 19, 2014 Vinegar is handy but muriatic is cleaner (just more dangerous). Either works fine. Just give it a good rinse (3x) afterwards using ro/DI. Sent from my LG-V510 using Tapatalk
Tracy G February 19, 2014 February 19, 2014 Ok so sounds like vinegar it is lol. I was honestly just rinsing in Tap then rinsing in the tank...... Guess that was a no no. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Origami February 19, 2014 February 19, 2014 Depends on how dirty the tube is really. 5 minutes should be fine. Just rinse it well afterwards. Sent from my phone running CM 11.0
anenome812 February 19, 2014 February 19, 2014 wow I never gave it that much thought. I guess I'll be making an acid bath and probably should be using caps as well, I've been using my finger tips and that causes contamination too I'm sure. I have used muriatic acid before and it does have some pretty strong fumes and can burn some if it contacts your skin. Just wear some gloves and you'll be fine and even at that diluted of a solution it wouldn't burn much if at all.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I rinse in the tank before a test, never after. Rinsing after risks leaving a residue that fouls future tests. Sent from my phone running CM 11.0
