YHSublime January 14, 2014 January 14, 2014 I just got back from the gym and see this, was fine last night, and this morning... all other sps look good, including the BN on the other side of the tank...
Marc Weaver January 15, 2014 January 15, 2014 Every one I have ever had that size has done that. I think they get too big for their own good. Once the slightest thing happens, RTN follows quickly. Frag some while you still can. They are fast growers.
pizzaguy January 15, 2014 January 15, 2014 This hobby sure is discouraging sometimes Amen to that. I'm at my whits end as we speak.
flooddc January 15, 2014 January 15, 2014 Same thing happened to me awhile back. Frag it, hopefully no further rtn. GL http://wamas.org/forums/topic/53040-devastated-birdnest-colony-wiped-out/
Sharkey18 January 15, 2014 January 15, 2014 Do the brown areas still have tissue on them? It almost looks like it. MAybe hot it with a strong powerhead see what blows off? Maybe do that OUT of the tank.
YHSublime January 15, 2014 Author January 15, 2014 Same thing happened to me awhile back. Frag it, hopefully no further rtn. GL http://wamas.org/forums/topic/53040-devastated-birdnest-colony-wiped-out/ That sucks, I fragged as much off as I could. Do the brown areas still have tissue on them? It almost looks like it. MAybe hot it with a strong powerhead see what blows off? Maybe do that OUT of the tank. I took it out of the tank, and the polyps are just browned out. I fragged as much off as I could. It's super frusturating that all my big pieces end up having problems. The only thing I've recently changed is flow (added more) but that shouldn't have such a large effect, especially randomly and days later.
Mattiejay6 January 15, 2014 January 15, 2014 Isn't browning just because a lack of nutrients in the water?
YHSublime January 15, 2014 Author January 15, 2014 Isn't browning just because a lack of nutrients in the water? There is not a lack of nutrients, I can assure you of that. time to run all the test kits... *grumble.*
YHSublime January 15, 2014 Author January 15, 2014 Alk? Sent from my phone running CM 11.0 6.75 Keep in mind I have been running this fairly consistently as seen here
Origami January 15, 2014 January 15, 2014 Sometimes low alk combined with other factors (stresses) can trigger an RTN event. Sent from my phone running CM 11.0
YHSublime January 15, 2014 Author January 15, 2014 Sometimes low alk combined with other factors (stresses) can trigger an RTN event. Sent from my phone running CM 11.0 Guess lesson learned. I figured so long as everything looked good I wouldn't chase a number, but don't want to "live on the edge" either. If you see my build thread, I just posted photos from the weekend, no visible complaints then.
Origami January 15, 2014 January 15, 2014 Can you frag it to keep it from spreading? Sent from my phone running CM 11.0
YHSublime January 15, 2014 Author January 15, 2014 Can you frag it to keep it from spreading? Sent from my phone running CM 11.0 Yeah, I did that. Will see how it works out come the morning I guess.
Neto January 15, 2014 January 15, 2014 I have the same birdsnest and even with my alk at 5 it still looked great
Neto January 15, 2014 January 15, 2014 It doesnt look like rtn, kind of more like some type of fungus
YHSublime January 15, 2014 Author January 15, 2014 Like some of my other losses, it seems that from past experience this just happens. I have a hard time accepting that, but not much of a choice. Woke up this morning, all the fragged pieces, and what was left of the colony was the same way, a few bright green tips. I pulled the whole thing and chucked it, did a small water change, and stared at the gaping hole, and went to work.
Huly January 15, 2014 January 15, 2014 Birdsnest is the one coral Pez and I can kill just by looking at it!
YHSublime January 15, 2014 Author January 15, 2014 Birdsnest is the one coral Pez and I can kill just by looking at it! and weren't you looking at my pictures yesterday? I wonder if I can block the two of you from my build
