For small tanks, 10% of a water change would not make a huge difference in ALK. Try to use a salt that has an alk close to what your target is.

I like it, however you have to be careful with the return check valve, they can get dirty with algae and stop working correctly and if that happens by looking at your nozles, probably 80% of the tank's water could drain to the sump.

Greetings I bought new nitrate, alk and cal test kit from Salifert and compared to my expired test kits, see the results.. The biggest difference is the nitrate test, and even though the test kit expired some months ago, it makes me question the results of the new tests. Has anyone had issues with Salifert test kits? I have heard that expired test kits will only be slight off but wasnt expecting this much.

can you be more specific on model? I have an ATI 8 bulb unit and have replaced the ballast once, it wasnt very hard and they cost around $25 bucks.

There is a RBTA that has been shared in the wamas community for a while that survives pretty much everything. I used to have the same problems with BTA's but I got this one and it has held very well for over 6 months.

lower your white lights helped me on several algae issues. Now on my 8x24w T5 unit, I have 5 blue, 1 pink and 2 white ones that only come on for 2 hours a day.

Update: After one dose of chemiclean, I was able to get rid of this green cyano type algae. This is a bit strange because I tried the red slime remover product a few weeks ago and that didnt work... A few days later after I did a water change I got another algae outbreak of brown type like diatoms or dyno's.... My guess is that all types of algae are competing for space on my system! It was either GHA, Cyano or Brown diatoms or dynos... I got tired of this and got rid of most of the live rock. The algae seemed to be slowing down now, I only left one rock with the BTA. Now thinking on the changes I did before all this started, I do remember introducing two pieces of dry rock that I got from my brother in law he bought from an LFS in Puerto Rico so maybe those pieces where contaminated and full of phosphates? Who knows..... I am cycling new dry rock outside my system and will add it slowly.... So far i have lost almost all my SPS, only a few frags left and zoas seem to be doing ok. thanks!

I just saw a bunch of black ocellaris swimming together on aquatic creations. My guess is that they came from the same batch.

Thanks everyone for your comments / suggestions. Yesterday I did a 40% water change and removed the substrate (tropic eden). Tank looks 100% better to be honest but time will tell, I am getting some hair algae now and will be buying new clean up crew this weekend since the majority of the previous crew died due to the Cyano outbreak. Since i am trying chemiclean elite now, if that doesnt work, I will give another change to the fluconazole treatment next since I did try it out a few months ago for hair algae and did nothing, maybe the strain that I had was different.

So I added the Chemipure elite on Tuesday and tank looks better but I can see some of the cyano coming back. Time will tell. I changed the DI resin even though it was reading 0... Does this DI resin look right to you?

Ok so far i siphoned most of the algae, moved sand and did a water change (25%). Tomorrow comes in the chemipure elite so i will try that for a few weeks and see how it works.

I have a 8x24w ati powermodule and bulbs are about 5 month old, brand is korallen zutch, 5 whites, 2 blues and one pink. For flow there are two mp10’s and i clean them every now and then when i see accumulation of algae. Thanks for your suggestions!

The one I have is called nuclear grade from BRS.

I think people have used that for hair algae, did it work for you on cyano?

the RODI is a 5 stage unit and TDS reads 0. Filters are Sediment, two carbon block, membrane and finally DI from BRS. The filters are about 6 months old and I got them from BRS. I am not dosing anything different, only pellet food and reef frenzy nano. I change the water every two weeks. thanks for the suggestion, I will try chemipure.

Hi Folks, I have been having nightmares with this stuff and its been a year battle. I have lost many frags, small colonies and even fishes that I have had for 8+ years trying to battle this green cyano. I have tried many things such as zeovit, GFO, peroxide, cyano clean, etc and I cant seem to get rid of it. Has anyone had experience with this type of cyano? I am just very tired and am leaning more towards giving up.

Flip em inside out and put them on washing machine with clorox.
