I just finished using copious amounts of epoxy (see thread about skimmer overflowing like mad) and my skimmer has just regained balance. I still have to skim super wet, but it's not overflowing anymore.

I've got quite a bit more to epoxy/glue, and was wondering what's recommended? I don't want to run without a skimmer again for 3 days, but I also don't want to have to epoxy everything in stages. I normally use the super glue from the dollar store, but I'll need a lot of small little packs to make that happen, and the nearest actual dollar store to me that carries them is still a hike. At least that I know about.

So this question is two fold. Is there some miracle putty or glue that wont send my skimmer haywire for a week that can glue big colonies to rocks and plugs, something actually holds?! I know this has been asked before, but I'm not taking about gluing some zoas to a frag plug, I want monster, hulk super strength, reef safe glue, in copious amounts!

Marco mortor is awesome. I used it for my structures. Let it dry and then put it in the tank. My skimmer was a little crazy for a few days but it went away. If u don't have anything in the tank, just run it for a few days without. Just speeds everything along. Then do a large water change.

One every couple days or just deal with the skimmer being off for a few days. It's really not gonna hurt anything being off for a few days.

Gorilla glue gel, works great and is very thick, most Wal-marts sell it.

Wait. Is this for the rocks? Or SPS to the rocks?

Sps to rocks. Used Marco mortar for my rocks, agreed, it's awesome.

Gorilla glue gel, huh? I'll try it tomorrow! Thanks!

Anyone else?

i always do the epoxy glue sandwich....i have never had a skimmer go nuts from it....but maybe you should just do this in stages....so as not to disrupt it...are we talking your new skimmer or the old skimmer btw?

Use glue and spray acetone on the glue to make it harden in a few seconds. Then just double up on that, if the rock is large use a mix of putty and the acetone glue mix. I rinse everything afterwards before I put it into the tank.

I've tried several different kinds of glue/epoxy, and I like the Instant Ocean epoxy the best. You can get it Petsmart. I also like using regular cheapo super glue with dry sand to make a cement. I learned this trick from a fellow reefer.

Old skimmer, tried 3 of them, same results. It was def. the 2 part epoxy. Always do the sammich as well, but I used a whole tube in one go, and it still sucks.

Acetone, huh? I have never heard of that before!

I like this a lot, super idea, wonder about my big colonies though...

the instant ocean epoxy is cheaper than all the other epoxy out there and worked great when i used it to secure all of my rocks together.. i did not want it to be permanent so that is why i didn't mortar.

i kinda want to try that jurassic gel on BRS, seems really expensive... everyone loves it from what ive read.

Will try this next time. Thanks for sharing the tips.

I think the IC-gel glue works great, very strong IMO for glue. I have a couple extra tubes at home I think if youre in need and cant get it locally.. Never had an issue with it and a skimmer..

Epoxy will always do that to your skimmer.  This is one of the reasons why a DC powered skimmer is so nice.  Just dial it down til things get back to normal.  I don't have a good answer for you though.

Lol well if you use an ENTIRE tube of it at once ha ha ha
