AlanM September 18, 2013 September 18, 2013 Some 1/2 inch long ring slices of schedule 80 pvc? Put three puttied to the base of each piece and it would be nice and stable. You could even drill the sides of them to let flow in.

monkiboy September 18, 2013 Author September 18, 2013 i'm going to see about getting the sump in as it really does feel very nicely cured. just going to wait til tonight to water test it and assuming it's good, will get water moving tonight or tomorrow.
monkiboy September 18, 2013 Author September 18, 2013 ps - getting those structures in my tank by myself was NOT fun. even with the ceiling take out above the tank, because of how wide/deep the structures are it proved stressful and tiresome to grab hold of solid parts of the structures over the tank and slowly into position between the two braces. BUT they are in and boy oh boy did i make a smart move working with these folks. it looks phenomenal if i do say so myself now, i learned i definitely need some sand, haha. it just looks silly without anything done there. might get to that as well tonight!
sachabballi reef September 18, 2013 September 18, 2013 im glad youre doing some sand.....always look more natural to me....
AlanM September 18, 2013 September 18, 2013 Cooking with gas! Tie in that leaky sump and get the cycle going. Sleep is overrated. Or so I recall from the days when I didnt have kids.

monkiboy September 19, 2013 Author September 19, 2013 you guys are my favorites tonight, haha. i'm trying to get it done but ran out of water even though i prepped and had both my 40g containers full. i topped off the tank and saw water rush down the overflow and boy that was exciting and it drained nicely and evenly into the sump. i have the sump about 1/3 full and have the RO running to top it off so hopefully i can have this thing moving water tonight!! so i got the skimmer going for kicks with one of the dc5500 skimmer pumps and wowzers micro air bubbles batman! yes that is me chuckling because it was ridiculous. so of course i had to try two, both of the reef octopus dc5500 skimmer pumps and holy moses i had a solid skimmer body of air bubbles like i've never seen before. and the soft start and stop is so sweet. i'm really digging them and hope the different design keeps it away from the troubles others have had with the waveline gen 1 pumps. here's with the two skimmer pumps dc5500s going:

monkiboy September 19, 2013 Author September 19, 2013 got her done, mostly. water is moving! still need to tune the bean and need more water for the skimmer but won't be running the skimmer for the first week at least anyway so i'm feeling pretty good. will adjust salinity tomorrow and tune bean for silence. then add sand. enjoy!
smallreef September 19, 2013 September 19, 2013 Wahoo! You may have fish before me,lol darn it..... Can't wait to see the structures with a bit of sand ....
Origami September 19, 2013 September 19, 2013 here's with the two skimmer pumps dc5500s going: Isn't it nice?
lnevo September 19, 2013 September 19, 2013 Very nice...sounds pretty quiet already. Can't wait to see the scape and sand
monkiboy September 19, 2013 Author September 19, 2013 Wahoo! You may have fish before me,lol darn it..... Can't wait to see the structures with a bit of sand .... have you worked up a fish list yet? i'm eager to get sand in her too. going to dump in a few 20lbs of fiji pink and hawaiian and see what i think and go from there. really just want to cover the areas under the rock mostly and see if i can get a nice bare and sand aesthetic going. we shall see. Very nice! Congrats! thank you, much! Isn't it nice? so far so good. hopefully all those bubbles pull out a whole lot of crud out. i know you've had good luck with your standard 12 so that gives me hope, haha! and since the pumps are submerged, i'm feeling pretty good about longevity on the RO DC pumps. Very nice...sounds pretty quiet already. Can't wait to see the scape and sand thanks but the video is deceiving then because it's still got some shuttin' up to do, haha. the waterfall noise in the external overflow box most notably. going to tune the bean and that will raise the water level in the external and keep no waterfall noise. oh, but the DC pumps, QUIET as ever. i turned everything else off in the fish room and there's no way you'd know they are on. pushing 2500gph without a vibration or hint of noise is freaking incredible and impressive. if these guys last, then that's the direction i'm going for all my builds.
Cliff Puckstable September 19, 2013 September 19, 2013 Builds, eh? What else do you have up your sleeves? Glad to see water in the tank.
