After many years out of the hobby, to which I was very dedicated from about 1998-2006, I have decided to get back in.

I just started a tank build thread that I'll keep adding to as I go.

As for myself, in my prior incarnation, I was a corporate owner of reefs.org, advancedaquarist.com, and I also ran aquaristcourses.org (marine aquarist courses online, MACO) for a few years. I also started NCFRAG (which saw membership across the carolinas at around 450 members in its heyday) and the NC marine aquarium society (which came from ncfrag) back in the day.

I have a PhD in environmental toxicology (from NC State Univ) and still work in the field dealing with the effects of toxic chemicals on aquatic life - although not doing bench research.

Glad to have such an active group in the area. Looking forward to many years of lively exchange, trading, and friendship.

Cheers,

Wade

Welcome (although I think you've been on for a while!) Sounds like quite a resume!

Actually, I joined WAMAS about 2 years ago when I was offered a free membership. At the time, however, I had no tank and let it lapse. Glad to be back.

I noticed that looking at the member map the other day.

I'm hoping there are enough to recruit to get my tank on its stand in a couple of weeks. Does beer and pizza still work to bring some muscle over to help move tanks?!?

Great to have someone with such a history in the club.

I was just going to send in feedback to Advanced Aquarist on their "Light in the Reef Aquarium" article by the Russian guys last year. I really liked the article, but the math is all wrong. Light attenuates exponentially in water, not linearly.

I'll let the powers that be know. I'm not involved much anymore, but I know the people who are. Wouldn't hurt if you submitted the same.

Sure does, I have 2 guys I can bring along as well. Just let me know when your ready and we will be there

hot dam! I know who I'm going to hit up (for help and livestock!). :)

I'd already hit submit when I saw your reply and the submission said it went to the site admin, which I assume is the webmaster, rather than anyone involved in content.

Basically I asked them if the authors of

http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2012/10/aafeature

could be contacted to do it with corrected math, and I told them that light attenuation in water obeys the Beer-Lambert law:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer-Lambert_Law

which those guys would need to use to estimate light at depth.

AlanM - I just sent an email off to the editor and the guy who manages all the article uploads. Hopefully they will follow up. That was an oversight in the editing for certain.

Welcome. Looking forward to your insightful advice and comments as well as your tank build.

welcome Wade...I loved the pictures of your last tank and am really looking forward to the new build! Get that tank cycled in time for the next meeting and your frag rack will be filled I am sure....

Richard over at Exotic is an awesome guy and you are VERY fortunate to be close to him as his livestock is sensational and he cherry picks his stuff in person every week....

I am really looking forward to your input on the boards....your resume is wonderful!

Welcome Wade. We may have met at Boston MACNA back in 2004 if I'm recalling correct that Reefs.org had a booth.

- I believe Tom (Origami) said at annual meeting that we have about 550 paid members.

If you have any desire to moderate again - with your resume and experience - you would be a welcome addition to the WAMAS forums team.

Craig - I was there for Reefs.Org's booth so we likely did meet. We were always provided a free booth for those (still are if I recall correctly).

As for moderating... not right now. They keep trying to sucker me back into both moderating and posting to the advanced aquarist blog, but I have a 4 month old at home so my time is very limited. Feel free to hit me up for contacts or ideas along the way though.

I'm right down 270 from frederick. If you need more help than already offered, let me know. I was actually just up at Rick's this afternoon.

Thanks for the assist offers all - I will be hitting you all up when I'm ready to migrate the tank in. With this cold/wet weather, it may take a while to finish the stand and canopy, but I will certainly be letting you all know.
