Dude, are you talking about the Hydnophora? I gave that to you a few months ago.

Good looking shots!

Hey stranger, thanks! Yeah, I'm talking about the Hydnophora, I know it came from you, and I would have just asked, although I could have sworn you didn't know. Don't worry, it's definitely me losing my mind. Regardless, it grows in SUCH a weird way. Sometimes the skin bubbles up and it drips, other times its tight and fluffy, I can't work it out. It doesn't seem to get any larger, but it has covered up on the back from where it was just skeleton.

Goodies arrived today! Just waiting on an alk checker!

new toys, always a good time.

Always!

frag rack?  after 50 tubes of epoxy why do you need that? lol...

Haha, I knew you'd be along. I've actually got a substantial amount sitting on my racks. I tried making one out of egg crate and magnets, and it worked great, but I made it like 2' long. One of the magnets on the end broke, and it dropped ALL my frags onto the sandbed. You ever looked for about 40 frags behind and in a pile of tonga, in a tank you have to stand on your tipy toes to reach the back? It's a nice rack, dropped in the tank already.

Dosing pumps will take a bit more time. I'm going to set them up with water I think, until I can calculate what my need is for calk and alk. I consider them a preemptive strike on having to figure out dosing when it becomes a need. Getting some salt tomorrow from ERC's GB, and I should be set for a while!

LOL been there done that with the homemade one....somehow one frag would always disappear from the dreaded swing arm dumping.  What are you doing eith the frags? plans to attach them ?

the pumps aren't that hard to dial in....after a couple of weeks you will be able to have it set and then just test every once in a while to see where you are at...life is infinitely better with them....and the apex makes it a snap.

Yeah, it sucks. I've probably got some designer zoas dropped back behind there somewhere still. I've got some SPS I'm waiting to put on the rocks. I honestly want to see how everything starts growing out till I place it. I expect I'll like how some of it looks, and others not so much. I also have some small zoa frags I'm waiting to grow a bit until I can put them into my zoa garden and cover up some rock. I also might take what I have in a different route (different zoas then what I currently have.)

I'm not worried about dialing in the dosers, 6 months ago I swore I would never dose, now I'm preparing for it, I'm sure the Apex will make it easier. The Miss got me the camera for xmas, so everything is slowly coming together. I'm really just looking forward to watching everything come together, and realizing how fast things can grow if you just let them be!

Dosing is the best.  Rock solid stability all day every day.  Test test test while dialing in.  I test alk 1-2 times a day lately...

Yeah, I've been following your thread and dosing regimen. My plan of action is based on "everything I know, I learned from BRS." I'm fairly sure I will only focus on calcium and alkalinity, hence the Alk Hanna checker on the way, and a salifert calcium test kit. What I'm doing right now (nothing) is working, so I want to take it slow.

Testing is great advice. It will give me some tools to play, and distract me from tinkering with other things in the tank that should be left alone.

I'm hoping the entire situation will leave me pleasantly surprised.

Reefers stocking stuffers

I would like to see the stocking that's going to fit your salt. :)

And the other two boxes not pictured!

Can't wait to hook up my new camera!

So far I'm impressed with the camera. Watching from work gives me some sort of comfort knowing that if something is going wrong I can do a visual walk through. After many questions of port forwarding and stepping into a lot of IT scenarios I'm completely unfamiliar with, I can now access off network. The pan and tilt options are phenomenal, with no complaints. The zoom, although grainy once past 2 (out of 4) "zoom steps" is lacking. If the camera was full priced, I would have been disappointed, but at half of normal costs, it's excellent for what it is.

I've not been able to set it up to my Apex dashboard yet, but remotely it doesn't matter, as I have to use the trendnet app anyways, so not a big concern at this stage. Even at home, I'll use the phone for the Apex.

that's pretty darn clear image at 1-2x zoom or whatever that in the photo. the tech dork in me is going to have to have a few in the fish room for sure. pretty sweet isaac!

So that is at full shot, no zoom. The zoom steps are labeled as 1-4, what they are I'm not exactly sure. The original resolution is 640 x 480 at 20 FPS, which isn't crystal, but enough for the job. The camera itself probably sits 8-9' away from the tank, I think that distance needs to be taken into account as well. On the phone the image is crisp, on my desktop monitor (1080P) the original image is a little grainy. I also forgot to mention, this camera is capable of night vision, and that part of it is really well done. When the lights are completely off in the tank (and the room,) it is just black, but the room itself looks all the lights are on. The pan and tilt allow me to check my doors, and the room, would also be handy for checking on any puppies that may or may not be about.

This camera is designed as a monitoring cam, or security camera, and for that purpose alone, I would give it 5 stars, especially for how easy it was to setup. As I use it more as a tank cam, I will rate it as that, but I think it's too early to make that decision yet.

darn, getting high tech up in here.

Did you end up doing anything with the cube after cleaning it?

I set the cube up, and cycled it. Then I had to setup a temporary QT tank for the fish, and it took a spot on the eating table. Then after I cycled it, we had guests, and I broke it down and put all the rock and water into a bucket with a powerhead and I haven't set it back up again. Still waiting on a light, I know what I'm going to order, just lots of priorities first before I start on a second tank.

Got a nice solution for the Mantis. See my future display fuge/predator shrimp or frogfish home. I am really tempted to use my fuge to keep something I can't keep in a reef. Nice looking tank btw.

Looks like you have more space than me! I am working out alternatives. And thanks, it's a constant work in progress.

Last if the Black Friday and cyber Monday toys. Time to start figuring out a dosing régime.

I don't have a specific post to comment on, I just wanted to mention how much I've enjoyed monitoring your build over the last few months. I got pretty antsy waiting for my tank to arrive, and living vicariously through other build logs (particularly yours) is what helped me make it through the tough, fishtankless times! Thanks for all the great posts and continued updates!

More toys! OHHH I think you used all you Christmas wishes to get all those new toys!

You have NO idea. My family is going overseas together this year for the holidays, so it'll just be me & miss. It will surely involve lots of movies, tank tinkering by yours truly, and beer.

Looks great. I love new toys!

Thanks! I also love new toys, the camera is my favorite cool toy. When are you going to come check it out?! We're on our way to being able to put together an Arlington Tank Tour!

Haha, all the pages of banter, confusion and photos?! I'm glad you enjoyed, thanks for taking the time to read through it, I sometimes feel like I over share, so it's posts like these that keep me updating. When you're ready for some frags, let me know, and let me know when you want to come see it in person!

We had a Christmas like that. Turned into heavy drinking and strip jenga (I would suggest a faster game). Sometimes you just gotta get creative.
