Jan August 25, 2011 August 25, 2011 (edited) http://www.msnbc.msn...ther/?GT1=43001 Make some ice and double bag it. JIC you need to keep temps in your tanks down. I filled gallon freezer bags with RO/DI water so I can float them in my tank if I need to. Get some battery powered air and stock up on batteries. Edited August 25, 2011 by Jan
roni August 25, 2011 August 25, 2011 great idea on the freezer bags. i have a really bad feeling about this storm. i just hope power doesn't go out.
BowieReefer84 August 25, 2011 August 25, 2011 I have no battery powerheads, but I am going right now. Good reminder...
Max Ivers August 25, 2011 August 25, 2011 got my generator, 3 jugs of gas, and a case of redbull. Storm preparation - complete
Incredible Corals August 25, 2011 August 25, 2011 All I have for the tank are two battery powered air pumps. Not to worries about the temp. I'm pretty sure my power will be going out. The lateset track doesn't look good for us.
Origami August 25, 2011 August 25, 2011 Did anybody else put their location in the "5-day storm forecast" box in the link that Jan provided? I did, and it's only showing a 20% chance of winds at the 39+ mph level for Sun-Tues. What are other members seeing?
Jan August 25, 2011 Author August 25, 2011 My power goes out whenever someone sneezes. We are are accustomed to not having power for days. So each time I hope I get better on what we need and how to salavage foods, etc. BBQ comes in handy when we didn't have power for days. I took all the fresh veggies, frozen meats and fish and fed my neighbors for a couple of days once. Better than letting it rot and throwing it away.

BBQ sounds amazing after a hurricane, I put my address in and got the same results. If Irene goes on the course projected, we will get some mild wind and rain, that's all IMO.
donnievaz August 26, 2011 August 26, 2011 I predict the quake will have done more damage. I hope you're right, but considering the %$#* poor record of utility outages in the DC area I highly doubt it.
treesprite August 26, 2011 August 26, 2011 So far I have lived here for 10 months with no power outages, just some flickers. There have been outages on the back streets behind me, but not right along Georgia Ave. Where I used to live, they never lasted more than a few hours. We shall see.
daharley August 26, 2011 August 26, 2011 We thought about generators today........they are all gone lol
BowieReefer84 August 26, 2011 August 26, 2011 Here is another good site to follow the storm: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/#IRENE
Xler8n August 26, 2011 August 26, 2011 Pepco sucks!!! This is when i wish i had a Vortech. Lol. Though i dont think it will be bad in DC metro area but like he said. Our power goes out even if someone sneezes.
trockafella August 27, 2011 August 27, 2011 Its weak so far, the worst is due in this evening/night. Rain and some wind, nothing bad.... yet.....
Jan August 27, 2011 Author August 27, 2011 She's shifting East. We'll probably just get the tail end of some bad winds.
Kingumar August 27, 2011 August 27, 2011 and i couldnt get my hands on a battery powerhead. I hope the power doesnt go out for too long! Will find out tonight..
Jan August 27, 2011 Author August 27, 2011 (edited) Do you have a battery back up? Take a powerhead from your tank an hook it up to your battery back up or check Petsmart, petland, petco, any and all LFS's for battery operated air/airstones. I don't believe there are battery operated PH's. Good idea though. and i couldnt get my hands on a battery powerhead. I hope the power doesnt go out for too long! Will find out tonight.. Jan August 27, 2011 Author August 27, 2011 Right now there are 600,000 residents w/o power in VA according to WTOP.
Kingumar August 27, 2011 August 27, 2011 yeah sorry, a pump is what i meant. I will call up my petco and see if they have one. if not, worst case scenario.. will me mixing the water with something from time to time help?
Jan August 27, 2011 Author August 27, 2011 (edited) Oh and BTW ToyRUs had "D" cell batteries earlier. Don't know about now. Who would have thought a toy store, hu? Edited August 27, 2011 by Jan
