  1. I have a biocube 14 in my dorm at school and I can tell you that the avast nano ATO bracket will fit in the 3rd chamber (where the water level will drop). It keeps the water level within 1/2" which is super tight tolerance. As for a skimmer, I would check out the gnome glass skimmers, they're super cool and will fit in the second chamber of the BC14
  2. Ryan I've been watching your thread pretty much since you've started and here's my advice from a fellow person who just can't leave it alone... I left my tank in mid august and moved 1600 miles down to miami and left my mom and my apex in charge of my tank, she feeds once a day, keeps an eye out for fallen coral and changes the carbon/gfo once every 2-4 weeks. My corals have gone NUTS since I left, as I stopped messing with things and just let it grow. My acros which refused to grow are now about to hit the glass after only 3 months...I know it feels like you can always make something better, make a change to just this that or the other, but why not actually try stepping back. I think thats the only thing you havent done. Your methods, equipment etc can only do so much, but in the end, the only thing that causes coral growth is you guessed it...the CORALS growing. Not adjusting a reflector or a dosage or anything. Just letting nature be nature. So there's my more than 2 cents, I look forward to watching your tank grow as I think it has a ton of potential.
  3. If you want to see the LED pop...you need some LED's. I personally love T5's (and would recommend the same thing as surf&turf and say go for a coral+ instead of aquablue) but adding a 453nm royal blue led strip will give you those crazy colors.
  4. Or try US plastics, savko, mcmastercarr, etc
  5. Check out the avast site...they literally have every size you could imagine.
  6. here's an example of how the A350's and Reef Savvy tanks play oh so well together (I'll admit this is a shameless plug for the tank I exhibited in and ended up winning in a raffle at MACNA) Reef Savvy Raffle but seriously, great choice on tank manufacturer, felix's work is worlds beyond any glass tank manufacturer I've ever seen.
  7. I'm living in miami now and the storm is passing by us currently and through the weekend. The wind is pretty nasty, and based on my own experience with pepco (montgomery county, MD), y'all should get the generators and air pumps ready. I say this and where I am is only under a "wind advisory", apparently you guys are supposed to get the real brunt of the storm. Good luck to all, my family is on standby with my generator
  8. It's in ft. lauderdale next year...officially announced yesterday MACNA 25 and its the weekend after I go back to school at Miami see y'all there next year as well!
  9. A little late to the party but I'll be there this coming weekend! See everyone there! Max
  10. Anyone else heading to Dallas for the weekend?? I'll be there!
  11. I just replaced a reeflo dart with a HY16000 and its much much quieter, has no chance of leaking and my temp actually dropped .2 degrees. Absolutely love mine...go for it
  12. That last one of the psammocora is phenomenal! You have some serious photo skills and obviously some nice equipment
  13. They don't QT their fish but they do take very good care of them. One of the guys who works there named Phil was the "fish guy" at the Rainforest Cafe around here and knows enough about fish to fill many books. Also they usually order from Quality Marine or Seagrest Farms which are two very responsible reputable wholesalers. The drygoods are obviously more expensive than online, but you don't pay for shipping and they are there waiting for you to buy them whenever your return pump craps out or you drop your skimmer on the floor and it turns to shrapnel. Also they have one of the best selection of coral on the maryland side of the DC metro IMO, especially nice LPS colonies. Disclaimer: I worked at A1 for a little over a year last year for a HS job. I shopped there before I started working there and still continue to shop there. My working there doesn't influence my thoughts on the store.
  14. Funny coincidence...as I type this I'm slotted for surgery this afternoon to (hopefully) fix trigger finger in my left pinky. The doctors believe my trigger pinky to be a result of a poor suture job 5 years ago when I went to the ER after slicing my pinky open with a hockey skate (this is why we wear gloves even when playing pond hockey). I haven't noticed any difference between when I have my hand in my tanks or when I am just doing normal tasks, but it locks and hurts like crazy at least twice a week. So hopefully I'll have good news to report on my case, good luck with yours Jan!
  15. I can tell you they are coming soon final stages of testing right now. Justin or Dan can probably provide more input.
  16. As scott said, go and check out the builds of people around you. I have a 120 set up just like you said (in-wall with the window view) and fish room. Make sure to plan an exhaust fan or window or something in your fish room. It's the one thing I don't have that I kick myself for. Hopefully this summer I can get one set up.
  17. Yes! I live in Moco in the 20817 zip code (right next to walter johnson hs) and my power goes out at least 2-3 times per year for a few days at a time. I bought a generator last winter after realizing it's only a drop in the bucket compared to the money let alone time and emotional effort put into my tank. So the answer is yes for me. No brainer.
  18. (This post is directed towards the OP) I take care of this guy every week. He's incredibly happy and fat. But realize that the skimmer at Justin's is 8.5 feet tall and 2' wide and has a hammerhead NW pump. I feed the shark 2 cocktail shrimp whenever I am over (at least 2x a week) and I know that Justin feeds him other times throughout the week. Long story short is to keep in mind that you need to have the filtration to keep up with an animal that eats more than just pellets and mysis.
  19. +1 for the bluejaw, I have a male/female pair and the only thing they have ever had a problem with are shrimp. Those are toast. But clams, nems, gorgonia, corals, etc are completely safe for 2 years now.
  20. It looks like Bryopsis covered in Red Cyano
  21. I've been out of town for the past two weeks so I've been slacking. When I ran the zeo I did wc's once a month, usually like 20-25 gallons. Now I've begun to pick it up. I did 20gallons before I left and I did a 10 gallon change when I got home this past sunday. And I plan to do about 20 gallons per week from now on. I use D+D H2Ocean salt currently but I plan to switch to reef crystals as soon as I finish the bucket and a half of deltec that I have left.
  22. That will be super blue...like a 25k+ blue. 6 blue+ is way too many IMO.
