  1. It was just a thought. If he's too busy and doesn't need the business then he shouldn't bother. If that was my livelyhood I'd do it in a heartbeat.
  2. We should invite him to present at one of the meetings. Set-up a show area and bring a few samples and lots of bueiness cards. A win-win situation. BTW be sure to let him know he is building for an acrylic tank, not just a glass tank. Glass = support along the edges Acrylic = support of most of the bottom
  3. My tank is a 65 which is 36"/18"/24" LWH. I have a TEK 6-T5 fixture over it and will need to replace the bulbs soon. The unit has two ballasts labeled B1 & B2 below. I'm hoping the UV Lighting (formerly known as URI) T5s look as good as their VHOs. Watcha think?
  4. I'm waiting for the commods version
  5. As stated Seems to me that whatever method you use to maintain the proper levels that is most economical is the best way. Seems that folks with lots of SPS and clams are often using Ca Reactors and Kalk reactors combined. I only have a 65 with a 20 sump and small SPS frags along with some LPS and softies and I just drip Kalk and have good levels. I do weekly 2-3 gallon water changes as-well.
  6. Hey John, URI changed their name to "UV Lighting" right? Do you know why? BTW, I'll be looking for a new set of 3' bulbs soon :-)
  7. Some places actually sell bristleworms as part of a clean-up crew package. Consider that. If they are not plague proportions don't worry about it. Like dzekunoi said, if you have lots, maybe you're overfeeding. If I thtought my tank had too many I'd cut back on feeding and try the trap method mentioned above to thin the population.
  8. That is kool the way he did so much in just 48". Thorite sounds interesting, worth looking into.
  9. Check this out Maybe you can find a more economical method, but you get the idea.
  10. Ooooooooo... best of both worlds, C-Mon Johnny @ BRK They say, "We are accepting Pre-orders for them now". URI changing their name to "UV Lighting" threw me for a loop.
  11. Any news on this front, I'll be looking for new 36" bulbs soon.
  12. 36" Tek Light: 6-39w T5 HO Havn't measured phosphate however I don't have an algae problem.
  13. If you can't find them locally, check these out... Complete fixture... like mine I have a 6-bulb fixture but my tank is 18" deep so a 4-bulb would probably fit better over a 20. Retro kit options... I'd go more than two Maybe BRK can help you
  14. You just got some good advice. Yes, T5s are reported to put-out more lumens at less watts. Maybe ask around for a study that backs this up. Do your homework. As well as light demands, clams require good water, available food, proper calcium... Very kool... very expensive.
  15. Hey Rocco, if you could bring some to the next meeting, I'd appreciate some.
  16. I don't know if this is a good source but just to show you how some folks value these ckeck this out Howard, been there, done that. I only kept a few FW tanks after getting out of reefing a few years back. I was lucky enough to sell my whole setup for about what it cost me. I had some breeding Discus and other stuff. Every time I went into a fish store I hid my face from looking at reef tanks saying, "That's not for me", and that was just places like Annandale Superpetz. Put me in a serious place like BRK, F&F, MS and I went nuts. Anyway Howard, maybe again later.
  17. I just found 1 tiny one - all white. I hope there is more. Peek into you tank with a red light late at night or morning before sunrise, maybe you'll see more. Think of them as part of your clean-up-crew.
  18. That's probably enough light. Depends on how high up the clam is placed (if it's the rock dwelling kind) and how tall your tank is.
  19. So if you seem something falling from the sky with a broaken rip-cord in each hand... yell "you picked the wrong hobby"
  20. How much you wanna bet he'll get back into it after things settle down; that's what I did. Hey JM, think about keeping just a few favorites in a nano; just a thought. I guess it's ok now to tell everyone that that Frenchy accent was fake.
  21. Actually Loco you can't get much dumber than saying I have ich only to find-out the fish slight speckled pattern naturally. Made for an interesting thread anyway.
  22. If you insist...
  23. I've bought or was given a few sps frags from folks with MH and put them near the surface under T5s and they are doing fine and growing with polyps open. I will say that I had to move shrooms and zoos under overhangs.
  24. I'm keeping an eye on the fish. This is an African Midas blenny with a different color pattern. He seems to have little specs in his coloration which I mistook for ich. Tang has been with him for almost a week with no ich. I'm feeding food with Garlic Extreme just in case. 1 U 2 V 3 ?
