  1. Can these be stopped & starter by a timer just like you can with the standard maxijet?
  2. Lookin good Howard. I just came-up from downstairs where I'm on the homestretch of my stand construction for my NAGA Pimped-Out tank almost the same size as yours.
  3. I used to maintain aquariums as a side job. One of the tanks contained a freshwater red devil about 10" long. They actually have surreated teeth-like lips. He drew blood the first few times. I learned to first put my fist in the tank and punch him a few times; he would then lay-off foe about 30 seconds. SOmeone once said the if clowns & damsels were the size of sharks, the sharks would flee in fear!
  4. I've thought abou it several times. If you can get someone to sell and cut the maerials and/or you have the right tools & skills go for it. I figured that I didn't have any of the above and would probably end-out having to say "lets try this again" and spending a bunch of money... I ended-out having Jeff @ Pimped-Out-Aquariums do a custom tank for me. Great piece of work. Just look up NAGA under the members list above. Try a PM & EMail. I gave him my design I did in MS Paint and he gave me a quote and we agreed to go-ahead with it. I'm working on the freekin stand every freekin night now. Wood, screws, & glue is much more forgiving to a weekend warrior with none of the right tools & skills like me.
  5. I recently purchased some 1" flex PVC and the PVC cement from BRK. Be sure you get the PVC that works on flex PVC, it's different from the common stuff that's made for regular rigid PVC. The glue for flex PVC works on flex and rigid.
  6. Slightly damaged used car. Can be used for ...
  7. I'd say spend the $15 and get the tried-n-tested kit Jason is talking about. http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem.asp...80321prodtitle5
  8. I agree, 4 4' T5s over a 55 should be great. 2 Actinics & 2 10Ks. Not familiar with T6.
  9. If a Remore isn't cutting it on a 55 I'd be looking at what else I should be doing. The Remora SHOULD be plenty for a 55. 1) Upgrade the pump and clean the Remora. 2) Check your phosphates, maybe too high a level is causing excessive algae. Maybe add a phosphate reactor.
  10. I've been to their web-page a few times over the years. Frankly, with Jeff(NAGA) and his "Pimped-out Aquariums" in the local area and a member of WAMAS, I don't see any reason to have something shipped. That is if your talking Acrylic. If your talking glass, the shipping must be "ouch". Oops, I just re-read you last post and it sounds like you've already made-up your mind. If not, I'm in Manassas, not too far from Aldie, if you'd like to see a one of Jeffs(NAGA) "Pimped-out" aquarium.
  11. I agree with the carbon and added airation. There will always be lots of die-off and uncovering of stinky anerobic spaces in the old tank but these only last a short while in my experience. Open a window and tell you wife "i will be over soon"
  12. Ya know... I'm a simple guy and this may sound kinda simple, but why-not have Jeff NAGA make a pimped-out combo 1-piece frag/fuge/RDSB. 3 compartments with flow from one to the next. Water in at one end and water out at he other with an extra powerhead in the frag section. Suspend lights over the whole thing with brightest over the frag section. Less PVC & valves. I'm personally thinking about the same thing wih a 4th section for mangroves.
  13. Very nice corals and the rope trim on the stand is a nice "nautical" touch. Summerduck, that's off of 29 not far from 28 right? Population around 27 or so?
  14. This may sound too simple-minded but could you put the de-humidifier on a timer to run only at night?
  15. I hope you did he correction slowly/gradually Correct me if I'm wrong but salinity is one of those thing you should avoid sudden large changes even if in the right direction.
  16. I already asked about getting one of those basic piece-o-plastic on a stick scrapers but what about a magnet scraper? (I plan on using both) The acrylic is 1/2" thick. What do you folks use and/or recommend. Thanks
  17. That's why my new tank is T5s + VHO actinics but after seeing Bob's tanks, I'm much more of a T5 believer.
  18. Stayed up until 11:30 last night working on the stand. Quazi cut the top, bottom, & sides for me on his saw but last night was me, a box of screws, a tube of glue, an electric hand drill, my little plastic miter box, a HAND SAW, and a bunch of 2/4s! I'll get pics when I have something to show-off.
  19. Before you give-up on T5sc check out lanman (Bobs) tank... awsome under T5s Or chck-out Quazi's skinny skinny skinny 55 also great under T5s plus VHOs
  20. Just to add my $.02, get the biggest sump/fuge you can fit in the space. Remember that when the power goes-out, the level in the sump/fuge goes up. Also, I think it's nice to have a good-sized fuge.
  21. Yep, that's my method, just enough flow. Just reem-out the 1/2" PVC a little and it fits over the output of the MJ.
  22. James, If Steve is ready let him have it. Seve, that's kinda good to know; I said kinda 'cause it's very expensive compared to back when I bought the Southdown @ HD... Oh Well, wat's another $30
  23. My tank isn't ready yet. It's live?
