  1. I'm basically with Rudy on this one. You may need to put the nano where the bucket is sitting on-to of a DIY short stand so it can gravity flow down to the sump.
  2. These are the ones you really have to watch-out for
  3. Me too
  4. Must be dandruff
  5. As others have said, it depends on the size of your tank. Big tank, anthias; smaller tank, chromis (green or blue). I have 4 green chromis in my teeny-tiny-itty-bitty(1) 65 gallon tank and they are almost always within about a 6" cube space together. I started-out with 3. After adding the 4th, he became a member of the tight group after about 24 hours. (1) After seeing other members tanks that make a 180 look small I guess I should call mine a nano. Last visit was to Eve's 300 gallon with a 90 next to it... wow
  6. I may be mistaken, possible false alarm
  7. Were you folks using the Garlic Estreme in a reef tank with corals and shrimp?
  8. Actually, it's my fish that has it. I just added a midas blenny. He has little white spots. No other fish have it yet. I've never experienced SW ich before. I've had it in FW tanks. I have 1 cleaner shrimp but the blenny is shy and likely won't let the cleaner do his thing. The tang has allowed a little contact so the cleaner is willing. Other fish include 1 yello tang and 4 green chromis. This is a reef with corals. Catching the fish would be very difficult. It it as contagious in SW as it is in FW? Advice?
  9. Just something to think about; I'm not breeding at this time. A little while back I was breeding FW discus. Conventional wisdom says that I MUST feed the newly hatched fry live food; in particular, baby brine shrimp. I decided to try and break the rules and I fed my fry decapsulated brine-shrimp eggs which are more nutricious than newly-hatched BBS soon after they hatch. It tends to stay in the water column a while and then I would vacuum the bottom. I was successful with a few different batches. I still have one of the now adult fish. Has anyone ever been successful with fry (clowns or other) using non-live food supplemented with naturally occuring live food from a healthy refugium?
  10. Oh no, now she's going to know I was only pretending to know what I was talking about
  11. 15 month? Great job! I better get to work so I can show my 15 month pics I give you a
  12. There is some debate out there as to the value or necessity of a DSB. If you already have a DSB in your main tank then I don't see why you'd want to have one in your sump. If you dont have a DSB in your main tank but wand the benefits of a DSB then having one in your sump may be an alternative.
  13. Watch-out, now J-M is going to expect to be treated special ;-)
  14. That's like at-least 4 of us here in Manassas. LL you gotta see Anton's setup right near Old Town. Hope you don't mind the promotion Chap. Downtown Manassas
  15. Yep, ya gotta yank some so more can grow.
  16. londonloco, I'll be in the gallery for you
  17. $.02 more... Go over to Reef Central and search on using vinegar in you kalk, or search-thru Randy Holmes Farley section. Do it sparingly, remember it is an acid so too much could throw things off. Upgrading your light over your fuge could make all the difference. Caulerpa and Cheato will really grow fast and use-up some of the nitrates under adequate lighting. If I had 15ppm and saw it was on the increase, I'd do something about it. If I had 15ppm and that's the way it had been for quite a while I wouldn't worry about it.
  18. Welcome to the club Raf. I'm sure we'll get a chance to talk.
  19. Very kewl fish however I have heard that they have been known to nibble at certain corals, and may not be reef safe for this reason. Do more research to prove this right or wrong.
  20. Reference to the movie "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles". "Those aren't pillows"
  21. Yes, it's very kool. Even in the middle of the day, I can look into the mat of alga and see pods of various sizes scurring around in there.
  22. Jake, Had to look twice... kinda creeps me out Anyway he's back in the tank and seems to have an improved appetite too
  23. Wow, it actually looks much bigger!
  24. I've never seen you tank but I hate it too. I used to be a big acrylic fan back in my FW only days. I had several. Once I started reefin I changed my mind. Great for a FW setup but not reef with corraline, sand, rocks, coral... One of these days that tank may make a great sump though. I got one of those scratch removal kits and after working for an hour on one scratch (it never really quite worked) I gave-up. It did make an improvement but not like new. I agree with cbashaw, go for the 90, 24" tall is plenty tall. Of course, make sure it's RR. I'll give you $50 for that old sump ;-)
