  1. Just went to Alembic's web-site... schweeet! & $$$$$$$$
  2. I'd go with one of Dave's suggestions Nice bass Dave, what is it?
  3. Here's the web-page foy DIY & bulbs I couldn't remember. Probably best combination is at lease 50% Aquablue + some actinic. BRK is supposed to be getting URI T5s so that may be the best way to go, jury still out. If the URI T5 actinic can match the URI VHO bulbs then the need to mix T5 & VHO goes out the window. Personally, I feel that my all T5 setup doesn't need VHO. Bulb descriptions
  4. I just visited the place for the first time. You SPS freaks gotta see what they have. Really nice selection of Acros. Just gotta fix the light :D
  5. I'm surprised you didn't get any responses yet. There are some recent converts to T5 around here. I just bought a new setup which came with T5s so I can't comment on DIY but I know they are out there. The old rule of watts-per-gallon seems to go out the window when it comes to T5s. You get alot of light with less wattage with these. Let's hope someone chims-in on where to get T5 DIY kits because I believe T5s will blow-away VHOs even at a lower wattage. Common folks, we need more input here.
  6. You guys are a hoot
  7. My top-off IS my kalk drip container. A dosing pump and a level sensor are the way to go but my budget hasn't reached that level :bigcry:
  8. Easiest and cheapest aren't always the same. I'm in the cheap category so here's what I did. I got an old plastic pretzel barrel and drilled a hole in the side about 1 inch from the bottom just big enough for an air line to fit thru. I then siliconed a piece of airline in the hole and put an air flow controller you can buy at most pet stores on the end. I fill the jug with filtered water and a spoon of Kalk, mix it up and let it sit for an hour. I then let it slowly drip into my sump. The hole is 1 inch from th bottom so only the clear liquid enters the tank rather that the kalk powder. That's cheap and easy!
  9. Yep, half the size of the one I had a few years ago but very healthy, active, & cute. darn, did I say cute? How un-manly, I meant handsome
  10. Little guy started picking at algae about 1 minute after being released.
  11. Just got back from BRK-M with a small yellow tang, cleaner shrimp, and an addition to my clean-up crew. My wife is very fond of the yellow tang which swayed me in that direction. Thanks folks
  12. I do have a fondness of the convicts. When in Hawaii, I spent time swimming in schools of these guys.
  13. Thanks Bandit That's what I was thinking Steve
  14. The tank is an AGA 65 which is 36"L X 18"W X 24"H. It has open rockwork as pictured below. If your answer is yes, what tang would you put in there? My wife wants one but I'm not sure the tank is big enough.
  15. I have 3. I'll buy your 2 if you want to sell them. grenier2@earthlink.net
  16. I had the opposite experience in my old reef a few years ago. It grew too fast! I'd bring clippings to meetings. I'd hold the large rock it was on over the toilet and snip snip. Go figure.
  17. URI T5s... sounds like I did get the perfect light setup... Oh I forgot, we're supposed to be telling JM how smart HE is :D
  18. Yep, Durso overflow & BB's 2 90s at the other end worked great for me on two different tanks.
  19. Blue Ribbon Koi/Marine has a bunch of plumming stuff, may cost more but no shipping. Call them and ask what they have.
  20. Wow, now thats a leap! My new 65 has 6 3' T5s. I think the VHO/T5 combination is the best way to go because the VHO actinics can't be beat while the amount of light per watt of the T5s cant be beat.
  21. Thanks Scott & JM. :77: Keep your pants on Chris
  22. Yep, I finally set-up my 65. Yippee :D I've been curing live rock for a while that I just put in over some base rock. I added some argonite sand that I picked-up at BRK. I now need to jump-start the micro fauna and soon the clean-up crew. If anyone has a cup, baggie, thimble full of live sand I'd appreciate if you could bring a little to the meeting tomorrow. I'll be the old fat man with the big mouth who looks vaguely familiar; Oh that describes alot of the membership doesn't it :P Larry
  23. PVAS is the group you want to talk to. When 2 cichlids pair-off their tolerance of anything else in the tank, especially their own kind, goes waaaay down. I'd move them out. Kind of like asking your wife if your old girlfriend can come live with you
