  1. Does this cause corals to fluoresce?
  2. Hope you don't mind my butting-in, too late, I just did Now that you've got acrylic, please comment on keeping it clean without scratching it. I suppose that having the nice open top helps. I've always loved and been an advocate of acrylic when I was doing freshwater but not so much when I entered reefing with the very rapid corraline buildup. Big Kudos to NAGA looks great!
  3. ... but we all don't have Eve's magic touch
  4. I need one that can I can have come on for 15 minutes a few different times a day. Please tell me your opinions and where I can find it.
  5. They tried to teach me how to use a "slide-rule" in school I'll be watching for the price drop. Have you noticed LEDs in tail lights and traffic signals?
  6. What I've herd: Positive 1 very efficient --> more light/watt 2 low heat 3 very long lifespan Negative 1 $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ 2 Can you get enough in there to get the PAR needed? ie good enough for reefs? Idunno Yikes! I just went to look at the web-site... did you see the prices? My little 36" tank would be $1,784.10 I'll wait
  7. Anyone ever try scooping-up some a keeping them in a home aquarium?
  8. If you're even in Manassas, I'll give you a handful.
  9. Agree with Dave, 20" T5 HO bulbs are more like 24watts, not 14watts. You might check with BRK about 24" T5 fixtures or DIY parts or go to ReefGeek.com.
  10. Not to rain on any tinkerers parade but I just aim a MJ from the back of an 18" deep tank directly towards the front glass and get a very wide somewhat random dispersion.
  11. It's a lot of work helping the micro offspring survive thru the larval stages. Do a few searches on raising Cleaner Shrimp and you'll see what I mean. Think of it a free reef food. I saw a setup once where they had a tank full of shrimp which slowly overflowed into the display tank just to supply the display tank with micro-fauna.
  12. Thanks Jeff, I'll be looking for your web-page.
  13. Folks, Does Jeff "NAGA" have a website?
  14. Cant wait to see pics!
  15. I'll bet you really love the 24" depth... eh Nice work! Is that JMs former tank?
  16. NAGA, you make acrylic or glass tanks?
  17. Howard, If your mind is made up then go for it. 3'x2'x2' sounds like a nice size. I wanted to get acustom those same dimensions but decided to save money and get an AGA 36"x18"x24"; plus I'm not sure how long I'll be at this same address. I only caution Acrylic. I used to have several acrylic tanks and slowly sold them off or used them as sumps or quarantine or whatever. They really do scratch easily and it's a pain to remove the scratches. It was doing reef tanks that led me away from acrylic; rocks, sand, corraline... If you're prepared to deal with acrylic then more power to you. They look great and are easily drilled and relatively light. Keep us updated on which route you take.
  18. I agree with Steve. First thing I'd do unless I had a real infestation is a combination of garlic extract and cleaner shrimp before any chemicals.
  19. Ah yes, Manassas, the new center of the universe
  20. Wow, Raf, I like the new aquascaping! Is that a 46 bow-front or what?
  21. Awsome story. Not to sound too sappy but I would think that would be a spiritual experience. You'll never forget this one for sure.
  22. For starters, skimmers or "foam fractionator" remove more than proteins and do it in a way that mechanical filters cannot. Many folks combine skimmers and mechanical filters with various media to achieve a desired result. Yes, they cost too much so look for a used one. I think you'll find this article informative. http://www.hendersons.co.uk/wms/page24.html#oz
  23. cbashaw, looks good! The stand, not your camera job ;-0 No need to get nasty Raf... Understand? I gave an opinion, you personally insulted me. If you want to personally attack me, use PM or e-mail.
  24. Yea, I thought of that but when it's just actinics it looks a little artificial to me; that is if the T5 actinics look the same as the VHO actinics. Thanks for the input.
