  1. Great work so-far. Talk to Bob "lanman" about his T5 setup. His tank is 240 or something like that and has great looking corals even low in the tank.
  2. If I were doing a 20gal frag tank i'd all the frags on a rack about 8" off the bottom and only use one of these http://www.hellolights.com/index.asp?PageA...amp;ProdID=1349 in a DIY hood; but then again I'm cheap. You could also put two over the tank and raise the light a little higher. Use less power & create less heat. My $.02
  3. Thanks Bruce, Seems like a logical, common-sense mod. Kinda combining two methods in one unit. I have a G2 and might do the same thing.
  4. So Bruce, What air pump are you using and how far down into the skimmer is the airstone.
  5. Been there, seen it, WOW It's a great illustration of what T5s can do even on a deep tank.
  6. Anyone use these to alternate powerheads?
  7. This is very cool stuff (pun intended). Keep us posted & thanks for sharing.
  8. Very nice setup and great photography too!
  9. I know this isn't an acrylic vs glass thread but... I've owned acrylic and glass for more years than many members here were alive and the reason I prefer acrylic is because I'paranoid of busting a seam which has happened to me and I want my tanks to last a lifetime. No, all is due to improper care I used to maintain aquariums and heard the same thing from a customer. Of course, he put the tank on a metal stand with 1" support along the edges and he proceeded to clean it with steel wool What? Anything made improperly is trash. Make an acrylic tank with too thin acrylic or put it on a stand made for glass-only and sure, maybe it will warp. Make a glass tank too thin and watch what happens when your 5 year-old bumps his head on it! Small glass tanks cost less than small acrylic tanks. Big glass tank cost more than big acrylic tanks.
  10. This is a nice cheap backup except I would put a 90 elbo on the top and rigid airline thru a hole in the elbo. That way it would pull water from the bottom and shoot it across the surface rather than gurgling at one spot.
  11. Neat how they can "hang out" peacefully SOME of the time
  12. I have a 30gal fuge waiting fot the main tank; I know, sounds backwards, with the same problem and after doing a bunch of research, I plan on taking my own advice
  13. I'd also stay away from "hoe depot". Listen to the words of the song "House of the Rising Sun" and you'll know what I mean. Sorry, I couldn't help it
  14. A few things to consider 1) Sounds like maybe cyanobacteria which actually isn't algae but looks like it and grows real fast. 2) Nitrates are 0, really? I'd consider getting a new test kit or borrow a friends. Try to keep below 0.1. 3) Amount of flow: It often thrives in low-flow and excess C02 environments. Consider improved flow. 4) Check you phosphates. If it's high, that could promote algae growth and I believe cyanobacteria growth as-well. Maybe you'll need to use a phosphate reactor or phosphate remover of some-kind. 5) Google cyanobacteria and see what you think
  15. Taking your time is a good idea. I recently sold my 65 and had NAGA make a 96 for me. I have the fish and some critters and some LR in the basement in a 55 attached to a 30 gal refugium. We have now decided to remodel the room the display tank will be in but I'm not in any pressure to keep things alive.
  16. For some of you us old-timers. Remember like 20 years ago when we only had FW tanks and they all kept saying that keeping salt water and especially reef was almost impossible and shouldn't even be tried... funny
  17. We use a couple of these with our DJ business and they blow-away any conventional 200w light while using much less power and almost no heat and much more vivid colors. I can't see why these don't take-off with other applications like aquariums.
  18. Nice job on the hood and very cool plumbing!
  19. Painting the fense black will probably be a good idea but what I see in the picture looks pretty good! That sacro looks very happy too!
  20. WAMAS&C = Washington Area Marine Aquarium Society & Comedians
  21. Keep us posted, this is a really interesting subject... thanks
  22. Thanks, can't get much closer
  23. Not an immediate need but researching where to get C02 tank & refills in VA preferable not too far from Manassas.
  24. Very Nice! Now give us some details.
