LOL!!! I knew you guys would have some fun with this............I like Nitro's idea best!!!! POTATO GUN!!!! YEAH BABY!!! lletellier, I have them because they were given to me. The person who gave them to me knew I was in the business and had no use for them and offered them to me. Yes, they were free. zoetzer, yes that would be great for a table tank but, the logistics and fabricaton for something like that is a pia. sixline, realistically I was and still am considering just cutting them in half with the cnc router (as I would never take that to a table saw). The 5 axis router would have no difficulty in cutting that and it would be exact and really easy to just simply glue a bottom on it. I think for right now i am going to use them for water storage. I am just going to have the edges machined on a couple of them and stick them in my basement and store water for now. That way should the time come around for the need of a large skimmer on one of my really large setups I won't have to worry about the Euro value against the dollar. This way I can use them yet retain the versatility to make them into whatever i need in the future. To make tanks out of them I doubt I would be able to sell very many of them and yield a good chunk of change with them. Something like this has the potential of making a lot of money if I am patient and wait for the right situation. Anyway guys, I love the ideas.............great to hear what you all could come up with. If you ahve any other ideas I'd love to hear more.

I am at a loss as to what direction I should go on these acrylic tubes. I have 11 of them now and they are 84"Lx30" diameter with a 1" thick wall. They weigh about 300lbs each. Some of them are 27" in diameter. Don't know the exact number of each but, what was just a couple has turned into 11. what would you build? Big @$$ protein skimmer Cylinder tank for Seahorses maybe A Gynormous fluidized reactor? LOL!!! quarantine tank New these things were 9,700 to 10,300 each. Kinda pricey. any ideas?

I HAVE A 300 GALLON TANK THAT IS FREE FOR THE PERSON WHO BRINGS ADEQUATE MANPOWER TO REMOVE IT FROM THE HOUSE. PARTICULARS; 1) TANK IS A GLASS CAGES TANK 2) TANK IS 96"X18"X36" 3) EURO BRACING ON TOP FRACTURED IN ONE SPOT IN MIDDLE) 4)TANK HAS BEEN PULLED OUT OF THE WALL AND SITS ON A MAKESHIFT STAND 5)WHOMEVER DECIDES THAT THIS IS FOR THEM THEY MUST HAVE ADEQUATE MANPOWER TO TAKE THE TANK OUT OF THE HOUSE. I HAVE TO BE SATISFIED WITH THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE BEFORE IT CAN BE ATTEMPTED. AND NO, I WILL NOT HELP REMOVE IT NOR WILL I SUPPLY ANYONE SO DO NOT ASK. 6) ANY QUESTIONS AS TO IT'S VIABILITY OF HOLDING WATER AND WILL ANSWER NOW. MY EXPERIENCE SAYS THAT THIS SHOULD NOT BE FILLED WITH WATER. TAKE THAT FROM A PERSON WHO BUILDS TANKS. 7) TANK MUST BE REMOVED BY THE END OF NEXT WEEK OR i WILL TAKE A HAMMER TO IT AND GET IT OUT THAT WAY. 8) TANK IS 3 MONTH'S OLD 9) TANK HAS OVER FLOWS ON EACH END THAT GO TO THE BOTTOM. THEY ARE BLACK IN COLOR WITH A DRAIN AND RETURN LINE INSIDE THEM. 10) LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THERE IS NOTHING ELSE INCLUDED WITH THE TANK NOTHING FOR ME THIS NEEDS TO BE AS SIMPLE AS CAN BE. ANY QUESTIONS BEYOND WHAT INFORMATION PROVIDED I AM NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO ANSWER. PM ME ONLY IF YOUR GOING TO TAKE IT. FIRST PM THAT SAYS THEY ARE TAKING IT AND CAN MOVE IT OUT BY THE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED TIME FRAME GETS IT. I AM NOT GOING TO POST ANYTING ON THIS THREAD BEYOND SAYING IT'S GONE. I APOLOGIZE FOR BEING SO SHORT ABOUT THIS BUT, I AM SLAMMED BEYOND BELIEF AND NEED THIS TO GO AWAY. IT'S A FREE 300 GALLON TANK GIVEN AWAY "AS IS" AT OWN RISK AND EXPENSE. BEING THAT THIS IS AT MY CLIENTS HOUSE COORDINATING MUST GO THROUGH ME.

what happened to your 9ft. tank?
-
David, I have two Hammerheads running side by side on a 1,000g tank and they are surprisingly quiet.
-
Thanks for the comments everyone. John (Seahawk) has had this tank in the works for quite some time. The design/concept of how this was going to evolve has gone through many phases with much consideration taken for each component right down to the last barb fitting. I plan on doing some work tomorrow and will post what I get done afterwards.

That problem does exist with the Aquamedics. Generally I have found that to be the case when the unit is brand new and the hose that it is running against puts up the most resistance then. After it has run it for a while it is fine. I initially let mine run continiously for at least 48 hours so that it break in that hose. That way it won't have an opportunity to start up on a new stiff hose where the resistance is at it's maximum.

The Aquamedics have done well for me. They are not a real quality unit but are readily available. Of the dozen or so that i have put on I have had one give me a problem. I have found that you really just have to be careful how you install it. They don't take much abuse and if not cared for while installing you can easily have problems. I have seen many times people complain about them not being reliable. Deltec equipment I have had fantastic results with. However if I were to pic one piece of equipment that they could use some improving on it's their Calcium Reactors. The rest of the product line works great as I do not get phone calls on them. Red Dragon pumps I have had a couple of problems with. Very annoying issues when they do come up but, when they are funning they are by far the best. Knock on wood the last several I have put on have been great. PCO1988 has had problems twice over on the same pump. Each time though that it was sent back and repaired/adjusted it came back in just a day or two. So the service was quick but, it's hard to argue they are worth it when the price one pays is so steep and only then to have to deal with pumps that need to be sent back. The Bubble King skimmers I have had zero issues with. Fantastic performer!!!

Tracy, the Doc's tank is running smoothly and is going through his brown diatom phase. He is on well water and when we initially filled the tank up it was done with well water so I expect the diatom phase to last a bit longer than usual. I did just put in a large pair of Vlamingi Tangs that are beautiful. I am going to update that thread in a day or two with some pics. Jason, thanks...............I did beef it up a bit I wanted to keep it as open as possible given everything that is being put in the sump.

This is a new members tank setup. Tank is 72"x36"x30" on a steel stand Here are some pics of the plumbing and electrical that was done recently. I made an acrylic reccessed box for some plumbing lines that go into the basement. There is a drain line for water to go down for water changes via pump. There are two other lines that can be used for a chiller loop that if needed the chiller will be in the basement area (unfinished basement) There is a 1/4" water line from where the RO water comes in on. Here is a picture of the steel stand made with 1.5" square steel and coated with bedliner spray (very tough stuff) The stand sits on what is called "horse mat" which seems to be a 3/4" thick rubber mat that is very heavy/tough and looks like its made from recycled tires. Anyway it makes for a great pad for the tank setup to sit on as it is a great insulator for vibrations and floor protector I should have some more pics on Wednesday when I go back to install some of the equipment: Aqua FX 90 gpd RO 130 gallon acrylic water changing tank in basement Red Dragon 12m3 closed loop pump Red Dragon 12m3 circulation pump Deltec 601S Calcium reactor 2 FR509 fluidized reactors Deltec Deltec Kalkstirrer Aqua Medic Dosing pump to feed Kalkstirrer top off IKS Aqua Controller system Giesemann Infinity Series 3x 250watt halides DE w/ 4 80watt T-5 flourescents Marine Technical Concepts Ozone Reactor Ozotech Ozonizer 2 Tunze 6200's Grounding Probe 120 gallon sump 60"x34"x17" Aqua Ultra Violet UV sterilzer a couple of Eheim pumps Bubble King 300ext Protein skimmer that is the bulk of whats going on this system

WOW!! I read that link and holy cow!!! I agree with Dan (Dandy7200) and I would go with Miracles..............I too have heard very good things about them and I would find it hard to believe that there can be another company that could care so little about their customers. Rebacca, I respect what you said but, it did bring a smile to my face when you said, "3 out of the 4 didn't leak". Realistically they certainly make more tanks that stay together than they do with ones that come apart. It's just that we don't read about such things about other tank companies as we do with Glasscages. If you have a Glasscages that holds water then your probably in the norm but, how well put together is your tank...............and the real question is do you trust it enough to hold your thousands of dollars in livestock? the answer is to each his/her own...........not me though but, I do have the benefit of making a tank for myself

The stand was very well built. It was done by a professional and over built. I checked it for levelness and it's dead nuts level. This tank is less than a year old and even if the stand were built poorly it should have lasted longer than that. In addition the stand would have to be significantly out for that to occur. In a nutshell this really is in black and white, if your going to buy a tank from a company who only gives a 90 day warranty I think thats nuts. The money you save and really put at risk isn't worth it given that the failure rate they seem to have. I build tanks and very large ones at that and if I were to suggest to someone that they should get a tank from me because I'm cheaper than everyone but, oh by the way I am only going to warranty the thing for 90 days I wouldn't sell as many tanks as I do now. I am certainly not suggesting that every Glasscages tank is going to fail but, from what I have seen in the quality and customer service I woulnd not consider saving a couple of hundred dollars on a tank that very likely is going to keep thousands of dollars I spend for the animal to go in it. That couple of hundred dollar savings is going to be chump change when the tank fails and I lose thousands. All I say is those who have Glasscages tanks.............good luck maybe you can glue it back together.......glasscages seems to think so as they suggested that to the client........other than that they said too bad we're sorry.

The break is a stress break................in additon as I said before the sides are separated 1/3 of the way down on both ends. If I didn't say it before I'll say it now.......................you get what you pay for
-
WE ALL KNOW THEY ARE THE ECONOMY AQUARIUM.............LET'S FACE IT NOBODY CAN MAKE A TANK AND CHEAP AS THEY CAN. ...................HOWEVER IT SEEMS AS THOUGH YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. WHEN I GOT A LOOK AT IT UP CLOSE THEY USED 1/2" GLASS FOR THE EURO BRACE AND 1/4" GLASS FOR THE CROSS BRACING. THE 1/2" GLASS IS WHAT BROKE APART AND THE VERTICAL SEAMS ON ONE SIDE ARE SEPARATED AS WELL.
-
In the last 6 month's I have come across now 3 Glass Cages Aquariums. When the client contacted Glass Cages he was told to try to glue it together......LOL!!! as the warranty was expired. This tank was 96"x18"x36". Anyone thinking of going with Glasscages might want to think about it again before ordering. The other two tanks were not as large and came apart in different spots. This tank camp apart at the top brace where they use very thin glass for euro bracing and cross bracing. With that came the side seams separating. The other two tanks were failure on the sides and the other the bottom middle seam came apart. pic attached;

Here is some rock work in progress and with a 8'x4'x4' space a lot can be done. The gentleman you see in the pictures is a fellow member (pco1988) and he has been working with me on some of these larger projects. What we did was bond some acrylic shelving onto various parts of the walls and used some large Tonga slab to cover them. In addition we are building on top of those shelves and creating various structures to add character and depth. When we get done putting putty with these struckures you will not be able to see the acrylic shelves. We are also using this idea to cover up as much the plumbing and Tunzes as possible. We also built an acrylic box that sits in the front right that you see in the pictures. That bed is 6+ inches deep with various sized agrogate. We did this area so that we could reasonable controll where gobies and pistol shrimp would burrow and make their little domain. Again being 4ft. tall it is reasonable to put a Blue spot Jawfish or two up front here without them being able to jump out with any real ease. The rest of the tank will be sand with about 1-2". This box will have liverock bonded onto it so that it won't be seen. The main thing we are trying to do is to build a gorge/valley type pathway diagnally from the back right to the front left. In the pictures it's hard to see that because of how early on I took these pictures.

You know it's funny you mention the kids liking the tank.........................well my perception is that the kids 12 & 14 boys could care less. In fact, they play their gamecube right next to the tank and never ask me any question let alone look at whats going on. I'm mounting some more rocks today and I am hoping to turn it on tomorrow.
