  1. Agreed. Its always best to start with a Male to avoid the females killing each other.
  2. I'd love to see some updated pics of the corals. How is their growth under the LED lighting? I'm experimenting with a LED light over a 60cube right now, mainly with LPS and a RBTA. The corals definitely had an adjustment period, but now seem to be liking the light. Its only been a couple weeks, so can't really comment on growth.
  3. What size tank do you have? I bought a piece of eggcrate and made the size I wanted, plus had extra to make more down the road. I simply used superglue to attach to a mag float. Works like a charm.
  4. I thought it was hellolights, but they have them for $70 shipped. Wasn't there someplace that had them for $60 shipped?? The 250watt versions.
  5. I had a Mag 24 driving my manifold system and when I switched to a Dart, I saw a significant temperature drop. I also saw a decrease in evaporation loss since the temperature controlled fans were on alot less. When you get into the Mag 12s and above, there is definitely a huge amount of heat transfer.
  6. Awesome as usual. Crazy how the shrimp just gave up his claw like that.
  7. H-E-double hockey sticks yeah we won. That game was awesome. Hat trick for Ovie, and the Caps won 6-4. Had a blast yesterday. First game I've been to this year, the crowd was more into the game than I've even seen. Even 11 rows back, the view was incredible. A major thanks to Rik for his generosity in donating those tickets.
  8. True, but this IS nature, and this exact thing happens every second in the wild. Hurry up with the editing of the full video, definitely want to see what happens. My money is obviously on the mantis. I'd like to see the mantis go against a giant arrow crab. I've seen some pretty big ones at Scales before.
  9. I actually know many more people that have had great success with GC than who have had disasters. There are plenty of people here, and on CMAS, with fully functional GC tanks. And most would buy from them again. I would buy from them, but I would fully inspect the glass at delivery to make sure there were no chips in the glass, and I would simply make sure to reinforce all the silicone joints later on.
  10. Good to hear from you Howard. I'm actually really surprised to see you've lasted this long without a tank of any kind. Once you're ready to get back in the hobby, hit me up. I've been debating on getting out for a little myself, and would be more than willing to loan you my 92gal if you wanted.
  11. I would put the extra silicone on the inside. Why not go the safe route, especially if you have a signifiant other that has already gotten heated when other tanks have leaked/spilled on you . Get the black colored silicone and it'll look much better than the clear. Maybe even get one of those "Pro Caulk" things so you can have a cleaner look to the edges.
  12. I'd say its the cheap bulbs. They're not gonna give you high quality bulbs when you buy the fixture. I'd say go with the 14K Phoenix and be done with it. You're not gonna get anything out of Current.
  13. I can also recommend the Stealth heathers. They use plastic/resin instead of glass. I run two on my system and both are hooked up to my ACIII for backup. I've been very happy with them.
  14. Looking good man. Tagging along to see the progress.......
  15. You would probably end up having to replace the ballast of at least the MH to get a decent look out of it. I can guarantee you'd have to replace the bulbs too. You get what you pay for with those lower end fixtures. I ordered a 250watt Odyssea a year or so ago, and the quality of the fixture itself what pretty nice, but the bulbs and the ballast were literally crap. I'd save your money and wait for a good used fixture to come along.
  16. Jason, the Vortechs literally move a wall of water, so there is no need to "aim" the impeller. I've had Tunze nanostreams, regular sized Tunzes, and Vortechs. Nothing compares to the Vortechs. I'll never go back to Tuznes now that I've seen what Vortechs can do. You will never be able to do this: http://s111.photobucket.com/albums/n151/ja...nt=P9090180.flv with a Tunze. Make sure you watch till about 50 seconds in to see what the top water level looks like. Also, cut the sound off. I had a minor spill and had the fans on to dry the carpet
  17. I placed an underwater speaker in my tank, and played some Barry White for my fish. I saw some eggs laid within a week. Seriously though, I think its just a matter of time as long as you have a male and female. Both of my breeding pairs have anemones to lay their eggs near also. I'm sure it helps give them a sense of security in laying eggs.
  18. Following along. Nice size tank. Not too big, not too small. I'd love to find somthing like that for when I move out of my folk's place. Tagging along to see your progress........
  19. How do you keep your pH that high without Kalk in the first place?
  20. Get a hang on fuge and swipe up the babies and put them in there. I remember Chip was able to raise a little Bangai cardinal in his old HO fuge.
  21. Have you ever noticed any white spots on your fish? I also agree with the carpet anem possibly being the root of the problem. Although I've lost both pairs of bluejaw triggers I put in my 180gal back in the day. I definitely don't think they are as hearty as other triggers.
  22. Welcome to Wamas. You'll find plenty of help and advice here. We do have a Sales/Trading/Auction forum, but you have to be a paying member to have access to those. Trust me, it'll be the best $20 you'll ever spend in the hobby. You will make that back and then some with your first purchase of used equipment or livestock purchase. Hope you'll consider it. Like Maureen asked, where are you located?? We have members all around the area, so I'm sure there are people close by to you. I learn quite a bit when I visit other people's tanks, and get ideas on how to better my system. What books have you read on the hobby?
