  1. What about switching out a couple dozen gallons of the water in between the tanks for a week or two. Then just connect the two for about a week. That way the system would be the same water, and you could just swap over the corals. In regards to aquascaping, if you have outflows of the closed loop in the back corners of the tank, I'd go with rock against the back to corners. As long as you have flow behind the rock to prevent detritus from accumulating, I'd push it all the way back against the glass. I made that mistake when I first setup 92gal, and not having the rock against the wall uses up ALOT of space in the tank. Definitely looking forward to updates........
  2. Holy Cow! Too cool. Thanks for the link.
  3. FYI, reeflopumps.com had a special on the pressure rated Wahoo pumps for only $199 plus shipping. They had this maybe 3 weeks ago and I sent them an email asking if that offer was still valid. They said it was still available, and total price would be $229 with shipping. They said they could send out a paypal request for payment. Send them an email at sales@reeflopumps.com and ask if you can still take advantage of the deal.
  4. I did. He said he was gonna bring the Deltec he owed me.
  5. Yeah, thanks so much for everything Johnny. The water alarm is perfect for my needs, and the other equipment worked out perfectly. Thanks again.
  6. I have a few of these. http://www.bluezooaquatics.com/productDeta...1110&cid=80 They are so superior to regular old hermit crabs. They are very active, and I've yet to have any problems with any of them.
  7. Well my first purchase on the boards was a $600 skimmer for only $200. Needless to say I was more than happy about dropping the $20 in the first place. I've probably saved thousands of dollars by buying coral frags and established livestock off of members at highly discounted prices. I've seen limited edition corals consistently go for less than half of what they sell for online and at stores. I can't even image how much I've saved in money from the knowledge I've gained from the fellow members here. NOT making mistakes in the first place has saved not only my wallet, but alot of livestock along the way. Whenever I have encountered a problem, I post what I need help with, and everyone chimes in on how they've handled similar situations. How much is that worth to you in a very complex hobby such as this? This was FAR and way the best $20 I've ever spent in the hobby, and I will continue to spend the $20/year for as long as I'm in the hobby. I'm sure most members will agree fully with this.
  8. Not familiar with those models, but just make sure to get a recirculating pump skimmer. Having the bubble producing pump as a stand along pump recirculating the inside of the skimmer makes a big difference in efficiency. I have first hand experience of turning both the pumps on an ASM G5 into recirculating pumps, and saw a tremendous increase in productivity of the skimmer. Someone on the boards recently modded a Euroreef skimmer to be recirculating and saw a huge increase in production as well. I will never ever own another skimmer that is not recirculating. I would skim through the for sale threads to see if anything is available. If not, I'd contact one of the LFS to see what they have. Even if they don't have it in stock, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to order something for you. Plus I'm sure they'd come very close to internet pricing to get your business.
  9. Now that is cool. Good work Doug.
  10. The tip of the probe should have had a rubber cap on it, soaking in some type of solution inside. At least all of mine did.
  11. I've also used his stuff for a while now, even ordered a tank drilling kit from his webiste. I usually opt to head over to his place though, so I can see his system and talk fish stuff. Always a good visit. Definitely looking forward to one of his new products he's about to get in. I'll let him tell it though, I'm not sure if he's made the announcement yet. Thanks again David.
  12. Freakin' awesome.
  13. Oh wait, I looked through my emails and I used this email address which went right to Roger: tunze@sbcglobal.net
  14. I contacted him through reefcentral. Pretty quick response time too.
  15. Couldn't agree more. When I had problems with my first couple 6055s, Roger replaced them with the latest model with the "fixes", no questions asked. Probably the best customer service of a non-local company I'll ever experience.
  16. Nice start you've got going. Tagging along for updates......
  17. agreed. I used to look for the absolute best deal out there, but I've learned my lesson with purchasing livestock online. There is much to be said for seeing the fish/livestock before you buy it. Don't get me wrong, I've had some good experiences, but its a cluster-F when things arrive dead and things go wrong. Our LFS come pretty close now to online prices, so I just buy there now. Unless it's something I can't get locally, or an amazing deal like .15 snails or hermits, its just not worth the hassle anymore. Is it worth the headache to save $10-20? Not for me anymore. Plus the LFS really need our business now. We're gonna be really sad if/when our LFS are gone because we didn't support them enough :(
  18. You owe me $1000 for holding your sun coral for the last year. Its a very hungry coral, and has cost me quite a bit of money in food. Cash only please
  19. I've also had success with taking 50mg of benedryl right after a sting, to help prevent some of the initial inflammatory response. That's not a bad idea Jason. Never thought of that to dissolve the stingers. And yes, I now where gloves. I stole some extra thick Orthopedic surgery gloves from the hospital, and they work great. The Ortho gloves are reusable since they're so thick. If anyone else is as sensitive to these things as I am, let me know and I'll snag you some extra gloves.
  20. Depends on if how allergic you are to their sting. I'm very allergic, and break out in rash and edema for about 2 weeks until it subsides. Some people don't have any trouble at all. I have 3 Melanurus wrasses in my tank to help eat them. You can also get an arrow crab which will eat them, but it might also eat some snails and small hermits in the process. I know the worms are great scavengers, but I'd annihilate them all if I could.
  21. Red Dragon baby!!!
  22. haha, you got me at least. Looking forward to updates.
  23. Wow, how have I missed this tank? Truly impressive. Consider yourself nominated
  24. Awesome. Thanks for the replied everyone.
  25. So I came home from the gym to see the main power to my system had been tripped. Hadn't really happened that often, but if it were to happen when I'm away on a 24hour shift, it could be disastrous. Since all the water from my frag system, tank, and Orca skimmer had drained into the 40gal breeder I'm using as a sump. The water level only gets this high when all the pumps are off, so I figured putting one of those water level detectors inside the sump would be the best way to alert others in the house that something is wrong with the tank. Were would I find something like this? It would need to have a moderately loud alarm since my tank is in the basement. Thanks for any help you can offer. I wish the ACIII had some type of alarm that could be triggered, but obviously not if the power is off to it.
