  1. Crammed everything into a 60gal cube tank. I didn't have many corals left after everything, so it all fit easily. I'll take some pics and start a new thread soon. Seeing your tank definitely gives me some inspiration to get back into the swing of things with the hobby.
  2. Looking good Boret!! Your tank has come a long way. Absolutely amazing. Making me reminisce about how my 92gal was before my crash  I just sold that tank today actually. After seeing your tank, I'm wondering if I made the right decision.
  3. Rocko hit the nail on the head. Johnny has helped me twice with the necessary pieces to shrink the maxijet down to RO size tubing. You'll need two separate reducers, both of which BRK has stocked at all times.
  4. Stinks that the rock wall wouldn't cure. That really looked impressive. You'll be happy with having the 2' of depth again though. Tagging along.......
  5. The LPS looked pretty good last night before I went to bed. So did all the anemones. I think I'm gonna lose all but two sps though.
  6. Hit the nail on the head. I've never had any issues with them before. I've recommended them to others actually. I liked the idea of having a plastic outside that couldn't break like glass. I know without a doubt that this was causing the stray current. Its only about 3 years old, and I can't really say for sure what happened to it. Just ordered an Eheim-Jager from premiumaquatics.
  7. Well while I was at work yesterday, my GFI tripped and my folks called me saying that my water alarm was going off. They would hit the reset button, and it would turn right back off. I was busy at work, so I couldn't make it home to fix the issue, so I had them unplug the GFI ( http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/m...;Category_Code= ) and plug everything directly in the wall outlet. Well I went to move a frag around this morning and got the shock of my life. Systematically unplugged everything and it turned out to be one of the heaters. Now the lights are one, and all of my remaining SPS are melting away. Most of my LPS don't look too hot either. Even a few of my Anemones aren't very happy. Can corals recover from something like this??
  8. Power Compacts are OLD technology. They don't last nearly as long as T5 bulbs, and they aren't nearly as efficient. I say pass on them. Go with T5s for actinic supplementation.
  9. Great work Boret!!! Out of curiosity, why not just have the water outflow coming out of the top? So there won't be a need for the de-gassing valve? Back when I used my old Koralin Sulfer reactor, I just used the degassing line as the outflow and it worked just fine. Those sulfur reactors DO WORK. They eliminated my nitrates almost to zero. It did however have a negative impact on my pH. It lowered it significantly. Although I was also suffering from CO2 depression in my basement, which was also contributing to my low pH. If you run a sulfur reactor, or a CA reactor for that matter, I would suggest finding a way to run an air hose to the outside of your house so you can bring in fresh air to prevent excess CO2 accumulation. I did this by hooking up the hose to the air intake of my skimmer, and I had my pH rise over .4 points in a couple days. Also, here is a neat way to run these sulfur reactors. Just like how you run a CA reactor with a pH controller, you can run one of these sulfur reactors with an ORP controller. Trick is finding an ORP controller that will read negative numbers. You need to control the inflow of water into the reactor with one of these: http://www.autotopoff.com/solenoid/ When the ORP gets too high, the controller will shut off the inflow of water, and the water inside the reactor circulates and stays low in oxygen which helps support the anaerobic bacteria that feeds off the sulfur and eats up the Phosphates and Nitrates. When the ORP gets too low, then the controller will let in fresh water to be "cleaned" of nitrates and phosphates. Hope this helps Boret
  10. Get a school of 15 or so of those Glass Cardinals. They look awesome under actinics and they truly "school" in captivity.
  11. The one that Rik's wife will use to tar and feather him if she finds out???
  12. Dose the Kent Magnesium. I know of many people who have used that product and eliminated their briopsis problem. Evidently there is some ingredient inside that briopsis HATES!!! When you dose it, use a turkey baster and squirt it on the briopsis. I never used it personally, but I know of a few people on here and on RC that have used it with great success. There's a long thread about it over on RC too. I had success with a gold-heart Rabbitfish. Took maybe a month or so to clear it out. Didn't really do anything else. Some rabbitfish aquire a taste for it, some don't.
  13. I don't think you had a large enough bucket for your sized system. I used a 42gal hexagon with about 16-18" of sand as a RDSB on my old 180 and it helped tremendously. I honestly don't know how people that don't have DSBs keep their nitrates anywhere near zero unless they have very few fish and/or stare their fish.
  14. Back when I had my 180gal, I used a 42gal hexagon to run a remote RDSB. It was about 16-18" in depth. Over a two month period, I saw my nitrates drop from the 60-70s to below 10ppm. I made no other major changes to the system. I did very few water changes as well. If I had the room, I'd always run a RDSB. I like the idea of dumping your skimmer water into it too.
  15. Babies already!! Nice work. The new pond is looking great. Can't wait to see updated pics of the other tanks too.
  16. my Mother has a pair of gold striped maroon clowns that lay eggs every few weeks. They just said another batch yesterday actually. They are on a piece of LR that I could easily pull out. Drop me a PM if you're able to take them now.
  17. Looking good man. Your corals have definitely come a long way. In regards to not being able to grow birdsnest corals, I had the same trouble when I was running high phosphates. After I got my phosphates in check, I had much better luck with the birdsnests. I know of other people with the same experience. Do you have any detectable phosphates?
  18. Pretty cool concept. Tagging along for updates.........
  19. Did it scratch your tank at all?? Something that hard, I'd imagine there would be an increased risk to scratch the acrylic.
  20. So which one are you using? I'd love to see the ATB delux up and running. Where in the world were you able to find it for sale?
  21. So the delux is reciprocating? I notice two adapters just before the pump. One for water and the other for air?? Is that how new water gets into the skimmer, or is there another port for new water to enter?
  22. Maybe depends on what pump you put on it? Not really sure, but I'd image an Eheim pump hooked up to it would be higher rated than a Sedra pump, and vise versa.
  23. Nah, really. I've let mine go. That crash I had set me back bigtime. Just hasn't been the same :(
  24. JEEZ. Looking good homie. You're putting my 92gal to shame right now.
