  1. Hey Jean Marie! Good to see you posting again. Yes, I can install one and just ordered it this morning. I'm just surprised that they don't all come with them. It was my stupid mistake.
  2. So, I bought an RODI from BRS and have been using it for about 6 months. Now, buying from a REEF SUPPLY company I assumed this would be able to work with a float valve. WRONG!! Apparently the Reef supply company doesn't include an ASOV on their RODIs. Can't wait to get this next water bill.
  3. I just noticed that when the ASOV for my RODI stops the flow of good water, waste water is still flowing. I thought the ASOV was supposed to stop all of it.
  4. Alan wins the prize. They had no idea what made my lungs collapse. They just kept jacking me full of steroids and put me on a respirator. All the while the doctor was on the internet looking up this crazy palytoxin stuff. The worst part was when she gave me the steroid and said "I hope this stuff works".
  5. I used to have 2 of the 24" pendants. I'm so mad I got rid of them........they were awesome. I don't recall them being hard to work on. In fact, I think you just unscrew one side of the fixture and you can pretty much get your whole head in there to work on it.
  6. I would highly recommend the external overflow. Mine is silent and really skims the water surface. Adam built my tank as well so I think you'll be very happy with the finished product. Let me know if you ever want to swing by and take a look at my overflow..........or TRY to hear it.
  7. While I believe it's up to the buyer to ensure they treat new stuff, the seller also has a responsibility of full disclosure. There are sellers on here that have posted about pests and asked how to get rid of them. Then they sell frags without telling anyone because they haven't seen any in a couple of weeks. I was told there were no issues with pests and then look at his build thread and see that he had just "gotten rid of them". To me that is borderline intentional.
  8. Hahaha - that wasn't a shot at you Adam, that was for Tom. I know there are a lot of tanks out there that have been in the planning/assembly stage for a long time (probably a good thing). I think this one takes the prize for longest build though.
  9. So, is this going to reach the 2 year mark before it gets water in it???
  10. Nope. I traced back to the output of the RODI and it's a drip coming out of the unit. Filters are fairly new so I figure it has to be the membrane.
  11. Thanks all. I just had my RODI stop making water.......well, it's a drip. I just want it fixed so I can keep up on my topoffs.
  12. Need to get a 100gpd membrane today.
  13. We can always stick with STD.........Shared Tank Disease........it works. And it should be just as embarrassing. It costs people a crap load of money when a simple warning is all that is needed. I notate any sale thread I have, and will continue to do so, with the disclaimer that I have flatworms and the corals MUST be dipped.
  14. Thanks Evan........I may take you up on that. Mine are the red planaria.......not sure if the tan ones are different than that. FWE is the poison of choice. I'm going to try a small sampling tonight to see if it wipes them out.
  15. Thanks, but don't believe everything you read. I've tried the nudi, 6 line, melanarus, yellow coris.........nada. I think it's just hit and miss on those.
  16. I bought some frags from another WAMAS member a while back. I asked if he had any problems in his tank and he assured me that he didn't have any issues. I brought up his build thread and the mention of flatworms and was assured they were gone and had been gone for a long time, so I took him at his word. MISTAKE #1. Being lazy, and a bit stupid, I put the frags right in my tank........I mean, I didn't see any pests and all the corals looked good, so why not? MISTAKE #2. Low and behold, there are a kajillion flatworms in my tank (I didn't think kajillion was a real number, but if you ask anyone who has seen my tank, they'll tell you it's an accurate description). I syphon out millions of them every week and they just keep coming back. Oh well, they aren't hurting my corals so no biggie, I'll just bomb the tank to get rid of them. Wait, flatworms release toxins when they die? Those toxins can kill my fish and corals? So now I have to take all of the corals out of my 210g tank and have to basically start from scratch. I have to dip every colony and put it in a tiny temp tank and hope they survive. I have to bomb my display repeatedly and hope I can get rid of them. And then put everything back in my tank hoping that I got them all and don't have to go through this again. So to all of you newbies and those that think dipping is a waste of time or that it can't happen to you, take a lesson from me. I'm really seeing the dollar signs pile up. I'm taking the blame for this because of my stupidity for not dipping, but make sure you ask the questions when buying frags from others and DIP YOUR CORALS!!
  17. My advice would be to return it. You can find a much better skimmer for $200 that the super skimmer. I have read countless threads about people hating them and having a hard time adjusting them. Do yourself a favor and send it back. Then get a skimmer that someone here has used before and can give you an honest opinion on (i.e. not someone saying a skimmer is great and they just happen to have one for sale).
  18. Contact Marcos and get a d120. They are well built, customizable, inexpensive...........and you can use it when you upgrade to a 24x24x24 cube.
  19. Probably be even meaner.......since someone gave it that ugly gold blotch!
  20. You're right, those LEDs would be too expensive..........Unless you went with some of the evergrow fixtures and then the cost would be much less.
  21. Ok, I have to ask........where did you get that arch rock? It looks suspiciously like the one I had in my 150g cube.
  22. Is the sump new as well? You used a lot of glue putting that thing together so it will take some time. When Steve Velasco first put his together it took over a week for it to start working.
