  1. A water test you say? just freshwater....if so, it won't produce any bubbles like it will in salt water.
  2. it looks like my devil's hand without the fingers. i got a small frag from chip(flowerseller) years ago and it now about the size of 2 hands put together.
  3. I think you did the right thing. sure, they would learn there lesson if they killed all the fish in 1 or 2 days and THEN would of asked the right questions or get some more fish and kill them also without asking the right questions. where does it stop? whether your an aquatic specialist or not, you have possibly made their aquarium experience alot more enjoyable and cost effective for them. whether its salty or freshy...or puppy or kitty mills at least we can do is offer proper advice. my .02
  4. i liked my clarkii but they didnt have the body movement my black and white ocellaris have and a better disposition as the female clarkii was aggressive....at least in my tank and i have heard stories of many types of clowns drawing blood.
  5. that would explain it...lol maybe look on the post office web site i had a friend that worked as a eeoc(?) lawyer for them. or usajobs good luck in your search
  6. welcome to the club and the area!!! my .02 is why limit your opportunities to just DC? I'm sure there are plenty of places in the fairfax area that might fit your employment needs without the drive.
  7. maybe you can show it provocative pics of it all around town..... that will keep it quiet! i got nothing.... maybe box it in with filter floss? you may have to change it from time to time?
  8. the only bad habits i can think of is that they are a little territorial meaning that if a coral is near its hole(home whatever) it may knock it off or out of the territory. other than than they do leave lip marks on the glass if you are lacking on your glass scraping AND blennies are cool to watch.
  9. here is a link to my brother in laws house.... well before i got divorced. he didnt go all the way with it but has reduced his light bill alot. i think as time goes on he will add more to it.
  10. its the johnny winter dolphin i know...showin my age....
  11. that would be awesome. but no....
  12. anyone still use golden pearls for food? and any idea how long it lasts?
  13. yes and i even have a dsb. butt hat doesn't mean it may or may not work for you. the only fish that i have done this with are tangs, i guess i should of clarified at the start. but that was with all of the following fish already in the tank: 2 ocellaris clowns, 2 royal grammas, green chromis, and a sailfin tang. it might of helped the other fish being healthy with a varied diet like i do..... i think i read you had a six line....i think i would QT that guy....i only tired one but a stawberry pseudochromis i had beat him up and i lost him within the first week. just remember we all can give you some good advice, but you have to decide which method works out for you(as it looks like your doing some good research). this has most likely worked for me either because of when i get a fish; i stalk it for a while and watch it eat to make sure it eats well or just dumb luck. even if you QT make sure you feed the fish well in a low stress environment. good luck, it looks like a snow day so time for some reef maintenance.
  14. just maintain a good diet of various foods add selcon (and garlic like fresh minced if you like for immunity boost) and get some skunk cleaners they will clean the gill of the fish and the fish does not seem to mind. i can catch mine slowing down and stopping for the skunk to clean it, even though it set up station right beside a borneman anemone. thats my approach and it has worked for me. so far.
  15. i agree it was nice to see some sponsers there.... at least for me cause i won the sunset monti and i need to plan a trip up and get some supplies, see the new store and avoid the "what the heck is wrong with you look" from byron.
  16. i have a pb tang and a sail fin...when i introed him they kinda schooled together, i guess cause the pb was like a 3rd of the sailfin size. the pb bullied my copperband alot for about 3 weeks. but they all live in harmony now and hang together. when i had a yellow, sailfin and hippo together my coral beauty and flame angel would break up any spat those three had...it was the weirdest thing.
  17. i liked the e-trade commercials with the kids in the high chair, i wonder if they showed them all.
  18. i think when i was over last it was like 12 to 15" at the time.... its an amazing piece. it would rival chip's old clam.
  19. never tried for algae but i had a few when i first started my tank some odd years ago and they lived a little over a yer..and one spit out some babies(live bearers)
  20. darn....how come i never have any money for these sales.... however i Will be there next weekend with an income tax check to sign over ....well at least part of one. i just hope you still have some flames left.
  21. i remember when Jason first started. he reminded me of johnny #5 from that movie short circuit....."MORE INPUT!!!!"
  22. i went to fish world and atlantis. 1st i will say both store are very nice in layout and there setup. didnt really see a quarantine in either. so a few sick fish and rather large tank was being cleaned by a cleaner wrasse but it looked like it had marine velvet? it seemed to be in a separate system than the others. fish world had an amazing selection and dont let the front throw you off till you go all the way in and see the very nice main display, 1500g i think. atlantis has the deltec tank running full blast and my back hurt just remembering having to lift that thing at macna. what i didn't like was fishworld had no posted pricing for their fish (or i missed it) but had great displays. fish world didn't have any fish that stood out but atlantis had 2 healthy scribbled rabbitfish that were fat and happy. both stores to me are nice and even got my gf liking it(she bores easy so its a plus.) FWIW fishworld was packed and atlantis had a few what seemed to be regulars loading up. i'm glad i found this post and will visit pets plus. i trust the Lazar's judgment so i'm looking forward to it. my two favs still are BRK and Aquaco by far.
  23. i would think it would take a few months for the RDSB to mature so the nitrate reduction would take a few months to totally achieve a desired amount. Bob, was there a reason you went with the larger grained sand? smaller grain has more surface area. And did you seed with live sand from others' tanks? awseome idea with the square bucket.
  24. the poster posted that the tangs are going into a 200g system. i still think tho they would need some grazing room even at the juvi state.
