  1. Is that the aquarium in Long Beach? If so, a better option is taking the ferry to Catalina island (one departs almost hourly out of LB) and enjoy the ocean as well as all the sea life (you can even scuba off the beach into a kelp garden that is loaded with fish/ inverts ). Of course, it will eat up a day…but that is a day trip I recommend to anyone going to LA area. Darren
  2. Micromussa lords
  3. Sadly not this year, but I love this event as you are near NYC to make a fun weekend of it. Also, a lot of local shops tend to be there…. Enjoy, Darren
  4. I use reef escape exclusively in the area and have always been pleased with my purchases. I have never had any issue with their fish bringing a disease into my tank. That is worth any difference in cost, which isn’t that much anyway. When I purchase online for rare varieties of fish, I quarantine myself and it is a giant pain in the butt. Darren
  5. Thanks for being a great shop and supporter of wamas! My son and I enjoyed stopping in your facility (my son is a freshwater guy and I’m the salt fanatic). Best of luck on the freshwater business Darren
  6. Save the fox coral if you can: https://reefbuilders.com/2022/09/19/if-you-knew-how-rare-fox-corals-truly-are/ Darren
  7. Welcome back Darren
  8. Merry Christmas WAMAS! Hard to believe this is my 20th year as a WAMAS member. Darren
  9. Is the aquarium still available? Darren
  10. Monti’s are notoriously known for being sensitive to magnesium levels, so I would start there (echo DajMasta)….usually lower levels is what bothers them. Darren
  11. Correct, triton only offers OES and NDOC. I agree with your reliability concerns, Sanjay did a study at reef builders that had the same water tested at different locations and all the results were different. I use ICP primarily to look for contamination, not for trace element dosing. I run the tests twice a year. Darren
  12. If anyone is looking for an alternative I have used TRITON-Lab for years and have been happy with them Darren
  13. Welcome back Darren
  14. I too struggle with salinity, I use a refractometer and will get different readings from two different calibration fluids that are supposed to be the same ppt. Maybe I should look more closely at the hydrometer. Thanks for posting your strategy. Darren
  15. Cool hobby! Now you need some opal to work with 🙂 Darren
  16. Nice growth, I am really digging that rhomboid wrasse! Darren
  17. I love this idea….my son and I go to reef escape all the time, we would definitely be in. Darren
  18. So sorry to see this….thanks for sharing Darren
  19. Merry Christmas WAMAS! Darren
  20. Reef escape is my go to in the area…..supreme reefs has some nice high end corals if you are looking. Darren
  21. Beautiful, jawbreakers are so cool…thanks for sharing Darren
  22. I have the Red Sea roller mat and it is an impressive tool (probably the best invention since the protein skimmer IMO ).It was far superior to the theiling mat I had before it. Also, you can just purchase a DC pump for your skimmer….I recommend sicce PSK pump, I use it and am really happy with it. Also, you can check out either of these on my tank if you want to see them in action. Darren
