Welcome! I also made the jump from African Chiclids myself.
-
My fathead is probably my favorite fish right now. Down side is it is very shy but at least eats good.

The truth is if everything goes my way this thread won't be updated anymore. Not set in stone so I hate to count my chickens but wish me luck and ish could get real.

Seth's 150g DD SPS Dominated Reef
WilRams replied to sethsolomon's topic in Dedicated Tank (Build) Forum
Have the Bowsers just wish I had the coin for the Hallucinations! So did Gonzo's shipment include a Disneyland? Side note in a previous thread you mentioned a Paletta Pink Tip. Thanks to that heads up I got WWC to send me a big chunk of it today. Bad news is it didn't do well in shipping...but I can't complain about a freebie they through in. -
Trying to put together a calcium reactor for my tank. I have been doing some reading and I think I have a general grasp on it. However I would like some help putting together my wish list. I will most likely buy things one at a time and also keep an eye out on used goods until I have the complete setup. A little about my tank. It is roughly a 120 gallon setup with sump included. Footprint is 48x24x21. 1. Calcium Reactor - So far I have come up with: GEO 612 http://www.geosreef.com/index.php/products/calcium-reactors Aquamaxx S-1 http://www.aquamaxxaquariums.com/AquaMaxx_Star_S-1_Calcium_Reactor.html Vertex RX-C 6D (Could only find links to vendors but the priciest of the bunch) Avast? Looked on their site but could not find one unless its just about converting one of their media reactors into a calcium reactor. 2. Regulator- I have pretty much settled on the CarbonDoser. 3. Tank- What size would be the recommended? 5, 10, 20lb? Is it just user preference on how often you want to fill/spend? 4. PH probe- Thats easy. I will add one to Apex. Anything else minus a feed pump and media that I would be missing for a complete setup? Any good reads I should be doing to learn more about them? Thanks!

If not allowed then my bad. No harm intended.

Fox Flame is correct. I see the WWC Yellow Tips and JF Firecracker but what are the 1st and 3rd one? Really nice stuff. Can't wait for some of these goodies to grow out and be shared with the club.

For anything minus SPS I have had good luck with a peroxide dip and scrubing the plug with a toothbrush as best I can. I thought I over did it once with some zoas when I went too heavy on the peroxide but everything bounced back looking better then ever. As for my sps I just scrub the plug as best I can even though I know what I should really be doing is removing and glueing onto a new plug.

I use to be active on Capital Cichlids and they always had an auction. It was fun and helped the club.

I forgot about the code. I just tried it on the Gem tang then the Deepwater Candy Basslet.....my my wish I had the spare change!

After MACNA I can't wait to do a branch Reel Reef setup. It looked awesome in all the tanks.

Beautiful corals and pictures. This reminds me I need to get a pack from you!

It's probably closer to the 90lb range now that I think about it. The rock on the right was 34lbs and the left structure was made from shelf rock, pukani, and reef saver. I bought mixed rock from a member here and the big pukani on the right rock I ordered from BRS.

Roughly 90-100lbs I believe

Thanks! Can't wait to start filling it. I decided I'm going to be very picky and only things I really want and like. There will be some hard choices to make since the downside of minimal rock is minimal space. I was just scrolling back through R2R's book of faces and was surprised to see my tank!

I made this one last week. I bought everything at Home Depot minus the screen that I got from BRS. My tank is 48x24 and at that size would bow if I made the net taunt. It was also a pain to move the whole thing to feed or any maintenance. I decided to make 2 24x24 ones instead so I can just stack one on another when messing with the tank. It works. I don't think there is a "great" solution for screen tops minus the ones that come with IM tanks. I wish I would have thought to take PAR readings with it when I had the meter this weekend but I forgot so no input there. If it's true then no biggie I can just lower might light to compensate. Since I'm not truly sold on the asthetics of it I am trying to get an acrylic frame made that will sit on the inside edge of the tank. Then the screen can be held in by nylon screws threaded into the frame. My only concern is the acrylic warping.

I guess its time to update this. The most obvious thing I can think of that has changed is my lighting setup. I was not a fan of the Radions disco ball effect but more importantly the shadowing I was getting. So off they went and a white 48in Giesemann Spectra replaced it! 20k Radiums off of M80 ballast. The T5's are 2 Blue+ and 2 Coral +. I am a big fan of "sunrise sunset" for my own viewing pleasure. So I did mod it with a Kessil A360WE. The Kessils sole purpose is to ramp up and down from my main lights. Once those are on they cut out. In fact right now I am only running the Kessil as my 4 frags are all in the middle for now. I made some small changes to the sump as well. It now returns from the middle and drains to a fuge on the left and skimmer section on the right. Overall not happy with this sump design and something I will be changing in the next year I'm sure. Tank only has 4 frags in it. Taking it nice and easy. I am sure MACNA will change that. I have been working on my fish stocking list more than anything. So far: Snowflake Clown pair Yellow Tang McCoskers Wrasse Royal Gramma Sunburst Anthia (My favorite right now but extremely shy. Removed the yellow tang for now as it was the fish displaying the most and keeping it hidden. Once it was removed he at least comes out) Only fish I am looking to add is a Bellus female and in a few months when I am comfortable with my pod population either a green mandarin or a bipartitus wrasse. Ta-da! And some screen tops I made. Tang shortly after ending up in jail. Surprisingly easy to bait with some seaweed. I was manually holding the lid open with the box sideways. He strolled in to pick at the seaweed and I helped close the door behind him.

Very cool. They look like little dragons to me.

Neto's 22g Shallow Zeovit Tank Full Reboot!
WilRams replied to Neto's topic in Dedicated Tank (Build) Forum
I somehow recently got it myself. At first I thought it was hair algae but then realized as it grew that was not the case. It's just as you described and after reading assumed it was also Dino's. Really easy to siphon with a turkey baster so I removed as much as possible. Today will be day 3 in total black out. Fingers crossed when I remove the covers tonight. Not quite sure how I got it but at least I can try to nip it now before it's a tank full of coral. -
Not a big wish list. An Alternative Reef piece, a nice Acan and a nice stick is all I'm really looking for. I'm sure my plan (and wallet) will fall apart once there.

Similar experience. Secondhand owner and I broke one of the thumbscrews for the gooseneck mount. I called asking If they could possibly provide me the specs on the thumbscrew or sell me one. He sad no worries and sent me two new thumbscrews no charge. Good peeps.
